ESL Program Manager, Full Time

Position Description
Canal Alliance is seeking an ESL Program Manager. The ESL Manager provides administrative and
instructional leadership for the adult ESL program, and is responsible for ensuring the program
delivers the desired outcomes. The ESL Manager reports to the Director of Education, and will
supervise the ESL Coordinator and teachers. This is a full-time, exempt position. Candidates
should have the ability to work Monday-Friday, including evenings and some Saturdays.

For more than three decades Canal Alliance has been the leading service provider and
community advocate for Marin's low-income, Spanish speaking immigrants. Canal Alliance helps
vulnerable members of this target population acquire the tools they need to thrive.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


 Design and deliver an ESL program that produces the desired student outcomes
 Select, train, schedule, supervise, support and evaluate paid teachers and volunteers
 Develop, select, and evaluate curriculum and instructional strategies
 Design and oversee implementation of student outreach strategy
 Design and oversee implementation of student enrollment process and placement in
proper level
 Implement student English assessment in order to measure progress toward completing
class milestones
 Program data monitoring, analysis and planning (student assessments, class completion,
progress toward goal, attendance)
 Develop new partnerships and grow existing partnerships (ex. school and community
agencies, businesses)
 Coordinate off-site classes with partners, including fee for service employer VESL classes
 Participate in team and agency meetings

Knowledge, skills and abilities


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and
ability required.
 Demonstrated knowledge of effective ESL curriculum and instruction, adult learning
theory, and program evaluation
 Ability to create reports and analyze data
 Excellent organizational skills
 Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
 Ability to establish positive working relationships with staff, volunteers, and clients
 Proven ability to create and innovate
 Ability to function with minimal supervision, follow directions, and handle multiple tasks
simultaneously
 Bilingual in Spanish/English
 High competency using Outlook, Word and data systems
 Reliable transportation needed
Education and Experience Requirements
 Minimum 1 year administrative/leadership experience
 Minimum 3 years ESL teaching experience
 Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in English as a Second Language, adult education or
bilingual education, or a Bachelor’s Degree in any area with a TESOL or TESL certification
 Experience working with immigrant communities

Compensation
This is a full-time position with benefits. We offer a competitive salary with a benefits package
that includes 3 weeks paid vacation a year, 12 days of sick leave a year and 100% paid employee
medical & dental insurance. In addition there are 12 paid holidays annually, a 403(b) retirement
plan and a Flex cafeteria plan.
