Chapter-1: Introduction

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of the national economy in
Bangladesh. This sector is playing an important role to develop the economy of our country.
The role of SMEs sector is immense to alleviate the poverty from the country as well. Small
and Medium enterprises are particularly suitable for the densely populated countries like
Bangladesh where SME sector can provide huge employment opportunity with much lower
investment. They are expected to create jobs, reduce poverty, and drive a resilient national
economy. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Country Report (2012)1indicated that
SMEs in Bangladesh accounted for more than 99% of private sector industrial establishments
and created job opportunities for 70%–80% of the nonagricultural labor force. In the paper a
questionnaire has been constructed and used SPSS 20 version software to analyze the data This
paper is, therefore, an attempt to analyze various issues, prospects and challenges of financing
this particular sector and find out the ways to overcome these challenges. It will also survey
various literatures and reports on the concerned field and recommend supporting actions to
help this highly prospective industrial sector to operate in a fully yielding manner.

In almost every part of the world, limited access to finance is considered a key constraint to
private sector growth. This is especially true for SMEs of our country as they are facing
different types of problems for availing institutional finance though SMEs play dominantly
important role in the national economy of Bangladesh by making up over 90 per cent of
industrial enterprises, providing employment to 4 out of 5 industrial workers and contributing
to over one-third of industrial value-added to gross domestic product (GDP). The relative SME
share in manufacturing value added is much higher and estimated to vary between 45 to 50 per
cent of totaling value-added generated by the manufacturing industries sector. Further as
important sources of new business creation and developing new entrepreneurial talents, these
industries provide the much-needed dynamism and vitality to the national economy.
Implementation of poverty alleviation action programs and strategies is a systematic and
continuous effort in Bangladesh. At present SME sector is facing a lot of problems. Bangladesh
government is trying to develop the SME sector through different policy measures even though
the rate of development is not up to expectations. There is a huge prospect to develop this
sector.

Chapter-3: Findings and analysis

After collecting data from the owner of the restaurant I noticed some of the matter which catch
my sight. First of their location. There are many places in Dhaka suitable than Mohammadpur,
but why they chose this place. I tried to find that reason and analyses it in this chapter.

Reason for choosing Mohammadpur location

1. Mohammadpur is an area which is convenient to move around. Many school, college

and hospital situated beside Mohammadpur and it is also not far from Dhanmondi. Bus,
rickshaw, motor vehicle is also available in this area.

2. We rent 1500 sqft room which is in 1st floor of the building. The rent is also cheap here
comparing than Dhanmondi and other crowdy place.

3. The raw material such as chicken, beef, rice, vegetables etc can be found in
Mohammadpur Town Hall, Kauran Bazar near to the Dhanmondi 11/A. The
transportation of these raw materials is also easy & low cost.

4. Employee are also available in this area and their wages is low than Dhanmondi or
Khilgaon Taltola restaurant.

5. One of the main reason is the owner residence is nearby to the restaurant. As a result,
he can always check his restaurant which give them advantage form bugler or any kind
of incident.

6. In Mohammadpur there is not many restaurants like foodgeek. They are the most
flourishing one. So, in Mohammadpur they don’t have much competitor for this
business.

7. Their main customer is young generation. DRMC located in Mohammadpur and

already they noticed foodgeek and starting to come.

2. They offer to sing a song and, in a week, they organize a music night where a band will
perform for the customer.

3. They provide lucrative offer to the customer even now they run an offer which is buy
one pizza get one BBQ pasta.

4. They promote their business via facebook, newspaper and poster. They advertise their
business via customer mainly so that they treat customer with utmost pleasure.

5. They also provide home delivery service via Hungrnaki or foodpanda.

6. They accept credit card which is much more continent for some customer.

7. They offer complimentary blue lagoon which is so good.

8. They also provide to watch live match facility.

3.2 Customer

Mohammadpur is a crowded area; most of the schools, universities, banks, residence are
located in Mohammadpur or beside it. Moreover, when people come to Dhanmondi lake they
are searching a good place to hang so foodgeek offer them to various disses which they can’t
avoid.

At present, about 20 thousand families live in this area and it is increasing daily. Restaurant
business is much more prospective in this area.

After establishing the restaurant, they survey customer

opinion form the customer and they are willing to give it.

A customer satisfaction survey is one way to gather this

vital information. The customer satisfaction survey below
is designed to get our customers to tell us what they really
think.

Chapter-4: Conclusion
Foodgeek is a very beautifully decorated restaurant with quality and delicious food. But the
food they provide is a little bit overpriced in relation to the location of the restaurant. This
might be a problem if they want to attract customers who are students. Because students
actually look for a reasonable priced restaurant. So, to increase their demand they must create
offers for students and lower their food price a little bit. Other than that, it will do very well in
the market as a small business.
