source to ensure uniform texture and color for continuous and visually related items.

2.3 TANKS
A. An FRP bolted panel type water storage tank, including steel footing, concrete slabs,
flanges, piping, drains, materials, labor, equipment, and all accessories as required.

d. Sheet Molding Compound (SMC): Raw material per ISO-10352 and from an
approved NSF 61 supplier.

e. 1.)SMC Forming Panels: Externally reinforced with F/G roving mesh of
minimum density 87 oz per sq ft (230 g per sq m) before the hot pressing
process.
13. Fire Class: Per ASTM E84. 2 or B or better.
a. Flame Spread Index: 70.
b. Smoke Development Index: 450.
14. Color: Grey in color per Munsell's value N-7.0 to prevent light transmission.
15. Algae Resistance: Per ASTM E903-96, avoiding algae growth inside the tank.
a. Light Transmission: 0.00 percent maximum.
2.4 ACCESSORlES
A. Bolts Nuts:
1. Minimum 1/2 in (12 mm) diameter. Minimum 8 bolt sets per linear meter.
2. External Fixing: Hot dipped galvanized steel grade 8.8, including washers.
3. Internal Fixing: Stainless steel A4-316 per ASTM A307, ASTM A325, ASTM A490 ,
ASTM F593 or DIN 933 (for bolts) and ASTM A194, ASTM A563 or DIN 934 (for
nuts).
4. Bolt sets for connecting flanges of inlet, outlet, overflow, and drainage to water tanks
shall be of food grade rubber capped type.
B. Sealing Materials:
1. Joints: Chemically stable, non-toxic, flexible, resistant to ultraviolet rays, and certified
for non-toxicity per NSF 61 & NSF 372.
2. Roof Seal: EPDM Rubber.
3. Main Solid Sealant: Stylene Ethylene Butyrene Styrene i.e. Solid synthetic Rubber.
a. Ribbed in not less than 4 locations.
b. 1.)Continuous along the length of the sealant without any breaking.
c. Remain flexible and resistant to ultra-violet rays.
d. Certified to NSF 61 & NSF 372. Provide test report.
e. 1.)Toxicology reviewed for the effect on taste, odor, color, and turbidity.
f. 2.)Test for toxic metals, cytotoxicity, and microbiological growth performed by
an accredited laboratory.
C. Insulation: Rigid Polyurethane foam sandwiched between the FRP panel and the ASA
external cover.
1. Insulation thickness: 1 in (25 mm) R 5.85
2. Insulation Thickness: 2 in (50 mm) R12.26
3. ASA External Cover Minimum Side Panel Thickness: 0.08 in (2 mm).
4. ASA External Cover Minimum Roof and Bottom Panel Thickness: 0.04 in (1 mm).
5. Heat Transfer Coefficient: 0.205 Btu per sq ft per hr per degree F or (1 Kcal per sq m
per hr per degree C).
6. Cold Climates: Insulate bottom and side panels with roof insulation optional.
7. Warm Climates: Insulate roof and side panels with roof insulation optional.
8. Thermal Storage Tanks; Hot or Cold: Insulate sides, roof and bottom panels.

F. Air Vents: 4 in (100 mm) diameter. Net of mesh No. 22. Light, dust and insect proof.
G. Ladders and Safety Devices: Locate as shown on Drawings. Provide, safety cage, rest
platforms, roof ladder handrails, and other safety devices as required by federal and local
laws or regulations.
1. Tanks Above 3.3 ft (1 m) High: One external and one internal ladder fitted to every
manhole access.
a. External Ladder: Hot dipped galvanized steel per ASTM A123
b. Internal Ladder: FRP food grade material conforming to NSF 61.
H. Steel Footing for Tanks: Hot dipped galvanized steel per ASTM A123.
1. Tanks Above 3.3 ft (1 m) High: Mounted firmly onto a steel footing.
2. Tanks 4.9 and 6.6 ft (1.5 and 2 m) High: Primary beams, minimum W4 x 13 (100 x
100 x 8 mm) H-beams.
3. Tanks Higher than 6.6 ft (2 m): Primary beams, minimum size W8 x 13 (200 x 100 x 7
x 5 mm) I-beams.
4. Maximum Permissible Deflection: 3/16 in (5 mm).
I. Static Electricity Eliminator: Removable static electricity device to ground static electric
current that might occur to the Stainless steel rods inside the tank.
B. Provide at least one soil boring in area of the proposed tank for the contractor reference.
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly constructed and prepared.
3.2 PREPARATION
B. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the
best result for the substrate under the project conditions.
3.3 INSTALLATION

B. Tank Inspection and Commissioning: Per AWWA D121 requirements.
1. Tanks should be inspected and maintained as prescribed in FTPI 2007-1 taking
notable exceptions into consideration such as manufacturing method being
compression molding.
2. The tightness/torque of the over roof tie-rods should also be checked annually for
slackness and adjusted if required.
A. Upon completion of installation, remove surplus materials, rubbish, tools and equipment.
