2.5 TCM
The tandem connection monitor (TCM) is used to monitor bit errors. The TCM uses
N1/N2 bytes in POH to monitor the quality of channels in a network segment. The
TCM is mainly used in a leased network.
The SL4 board supports the TCM of VC-4 in the higher order.
2.6 REG
An OptiX OSN 2000 can serve as an ADM and an REG at the same time. See
Figure 2-2.

The line boards of SL4, SL1, OSB4, and OSB1 of the OptiX OSN 2000 support
the REG.. A line board only functions, however, for the REG when configured in a
paired slot. In the REG mode, the line board processes only the frame header and
the regenerator section overhead.
& Note
For details of boards and paired slots, refer to section 4.3 "Board."
2.7 Networking
The OptiX OSN 2000 can be an MADM system. It supports network topologies
such as chain, ring, ring with chain, tangent rings, and intersecting rings.
The OptiX OSN 2000 can work with the Huawei Metro series and the OSN series in
the access layer of a transmission network.
The OptiX OSN 2000 can also work with third-party equipment. In a blended
network, the OptiX OSN 2000 exchanges management information with other
equipment in the following ways:
n Extended DCC bytes
n Transparent transmission of DCC bytes
n External clock interface
n IP over DCC
n OSI over DCC (TP4)

4.1 Cabinet
The OptiX OSN 2000 subrack can be installed in an ETSI (300 mm or 600 mm
deep) cabinet or a 19-inch cabinet. The subrack design complies with the IEC60297
and the ETS 300 119 standards.
An ETSI cabinet or a 19-inch cabinet (2.2 m high) can house four OptiX OSN 2000
subracks.

5 Software
This chapter describes the software of the OptiX OSN 2000. It covers the following
sections:
n Overview
n NE Software
n Board Software
n NM System
5.1 Overview
The OptiX OSN 2000 uses modular software, as shown in Figure 5-1. The modular
software includes the board software, NE software and NM software. The software
modules run on each board, the SCC and the NM server.
NM software
NE software
Board software
5.2 NE Software
The NE software manages, monitors, and controls the operation of the boards of an
NE, which helps the T2000 control and manage the NE.
The NE software of the OptiX OSN 2000 has the platform part and the
configuration part.
The main functions of the platform part are:
n NE management
n Board management
n Service configuration
n Service protection
The main functions of the configuration part are:
n Fault management
n Performance management
n Security management
n NM interface realization
n Database management
5.4 NM System
The NM system manages the entire optical transmission network and maintains the
OSN, SDH, Metro, DWDM equipment in the network. The NM system complies
with ITU-T Recommendation.
The NM system uses the standard management information model, and
object-oriented management technology. It exchanges information with the NE
software through the communication module to monitor and manage the
equipment.
The NM software runs on a workstation or a PC. It helps with the OAM of the
equipment and the transmission network. Table 5-1 shows the management
function of the NM software.
6 Protection
This chapter describes the protection mechanisms of the OptiX OSN 2000. It
covers the following sections:
n Equipment Level Protection
n Network Level Protection
120-ohm twisted-pair. Select the PT1P as the protection board. In this case,
the E1 interface board cannot be installed in slot 18.
& Note
Do not configure extra services for the TPS protection board.
6.1.2 1+1 Hot Standby for the Cross-Connect and Timing Unit
The cross-connect unit and the timing unit of the OptiX OSN 2000 are provided by
the cross-connect and timing board. The board employs 1+1 hot standby to protect
the cross-connect unit and the timing unit at the same time. By default, the active
board is installed in slot 7 and the standby board is installed in slot 8.
When the active cross-connect and timing board works normally, the standby board
does not perform the service cross-connection, nor provide timing for the system. It
has the same cross-connect matrix and timing settings as the active board. When the
standby board receives the abnormal information from the active board or a
switching command from the NM, it immediately acts as an active board by
changing its status to the active working mode, and generates a switching event.
Linear MSP
The linear multiplex section protection (MSP) is mainly used in a chain network.
The OptiX OSN 2000 supports 1+1 and 1:N (N≤5) protection.
In the 1:N protection mode, the protection system can carry extra services.
For linear MSP, the switching time is less than 50 ms, as specified in ITU-T G.841.
MS Protection Ring
The OptiX OSN 2000 supports two-fiber multiplex section (MS) protection ring.
The switching time is less than 50 ms, as specified in ITU-T G.841.
6.2.2 SNCP
The OptiX OSN 2000 supports subnetwork connection protection (SNCP). The
switching time is less than 50 ms, as specified in ITU-T G.841.
7 Application
This chapter describes basic networking modes and Ethernet service application of
the OptiX OSN 2000. It covers the following sections:
n Basic Networking Modes
n Ethernet Service Application
For detailed information on OptiX OSN 2000 networking, refer to the OptiX OSN

8.2 Administration
The OptiX OSN 2000 is managed by the iManager series transmission NM system.
Through the Qx interface or man-machine language (MML) interface, the NM can
manage the alarm, performance, configuration, security, and maintenance of an
optical transmission system.
The NM improves the quality of network services, lowers the maintenance cost,
and ensures the effective use of network resources.
