SURVEYING RULES AND REGULATIONS

CE121 and CE121F

1. All tools, instruments or equipment’s must be inspected for damages or defects before using.
Once accepted, the group will be held responsible for the repair or replacement of the item(s), if
defects were found before and after the conduct of the activity. No participant shall use any
tools or instrument without the proper knowledge and understanding of its operation to prevent
any mishandling. Please approach your instructor or the surveying staff for assistance.

2. All participants shall wear reflective vests, at all times during the fieldwork activity. The health,
safety and security shall be the top concern of every surveying student in the activity. You must
protect yourself from the elements and avoid performing the activity with an empty stomach or
with a poor health condition. The group should avoid damaging or defacing any property within
and outside the University.

3. Only the stations will be marked with appropriate labels based on the manual using pins or
masking tape (colored is preferred). No chalk shall be used and construction/ chord lines be
drawn to avoid vandalism. After evaluation of your work, shall the group be allowed to remove
the markers.

4. No group should ask, coach, share and copy data or procedures belonging from another group.
All questions should be raised during the discussion period and prior to the actual fieldwork
exercise.

5. Your performance will be immediately evaluated after you finished the activity and will be
written on your completed Preliminary Data Sheet (PDS). No scores will be given to any group
with an empty or incomplete PDS which will result to a minimum grade for the fieldwork. The
evaluation will be based on the scoring rubric posted on the system.

6. The role of “Chief of Party” shall be assigned to all group members at a time or per fieldwork, and
all shall have the chance to assume that role. The leader shall be responsible in communicating
with the instructor or surveying staff and relaying the information to the group. The instructor will
not communicate with any group member except for the “Chief of Party”. He is also tasked to
prepare the fieldwork report and collate all “Discussions” and “Conclusions” from the group
members. He must placed a feedback in Blackboard for absences and any missed submittal by the
group members or their mediocre participation (Example: All group members are present. All
group members submitted their reports. All group members did their job). The Chief of Party shall
be identified with with an id.

7. The total station should at all times be covered with an umbrella to protect it from the heat. The
storage case should be closed always to maintain cleanliness and moisture free. The instrument
should be protected from moisture and should immediately be stored back, if sudden rain or
drizzle occurs. Extreme care should be observed during the handling and operation of the
instrument. The group(s) should be responsible for the damage on the instrument due to misuse
or mishandling.

8. Under no circumstance(s), shall the instructor be held mainly or jointly responsible for any
damaged or defective instrument due to misuse or mishandling, and any damaged or defaced
property during the performance of the activity.
