NABARD invites applications from _universities/ institutes for ‘Student

Internship Scheme - 2017-18’ {Last date:28 February 201 (A). Who Can Apply?
1. Students who are pursuing their post-graduate degree in Agriculture (including
Veterinary, Animal/Food Nutrition), Agri-business, Social Studies, Economics and
Management from Institute/University of repute, can apply through their Institute.

2. Universities/ Institutes may select a maximum of five students pursuing post-


graduate degree in subjects mentioned above (Para 1) who have completed or likely to
complete their first year courses by June 2017 and forward the Curriculum Vitae
(CV) of the selected students to the concerned Regional Office (RO) of NABARD at the
address given in Annexure-I. The Universities/ Institutes located in Puducherry,
Chandigarh and Mumbai Cities are advised to submit the applications/ CVs of their
students to Tamil Nadu Regional Office (RO), Punjab Regional Office (RO) and
NABARD Head Office respectively.
(B). No of Seats
Total number of seats for NABARD Student Internship Scheme 2017-18 is 52. The RO wise
allocation of seats is given in Annexure-II.
(C). Last Date for Submission of Application to NABARD RO/HO
The last date for submission of applications by the university/ Institute to the respective
Regional Offices / Office of NABARD is 28 February 2017.
(D). Selection Process
Based on the academic qualifications, the eligible students would be shortlisted for the
interview. The shortlisted candidates will have to appear before the Selection Committee in
the respective ROs. The Selection Committee will look into the aptitude and interest of the
students and the requirement of NABARD while interviewing the candidate. The candidates
will not be paid TA/DA for attending the interview.
(E). Themes for the Student Internship Scheme for 2017-18
1. The selected students will be assigned a short term task/project/ study, useful and
relevant to the student as well as NABARD. They will be assigned a mentor to guide/
help him/her in preparation of approach note of the study, questionnaire, collection &
analysis of data and drafting of the report. Students may be required to take-up field
visits anywhere in the state/ country depending upon the requirement of the study
assigned to him/her. Finally, they will have to submit a report on the topic to NABARD
duly approved by his mentor.

2. Some themes already identified by NABARD for Student Internship Scheme 2017- 18
are listed below. However, there will be many more such themes with the Regional
Offices of NABARD one of which may be assigned to the selected student for
conducting a study. The students called for the interview will have to come with a
l their caliber and attitude towards research. Synoptic note should cover brief background,
terms of reference and methodology for conduct of study (Sample size, analytical tools,
etc.) and reference & summary of few studies already conducted by other scholars.
(i) Economics of Solar Irrigation Pump Installation/ replacement of diesel pump sets by
solar energy, income from leasing of farms for solar panel installation vis-a-vis income
from self-cultivation

(ii) Effect of implementation of e-NAM (National Agricultural Markets) in terms of benefits


to traders & farmers

(iii) Sustainability issues of Farmers’ Club, particularly after cessation of NABARD Support

(iv) Handloom Sector — issues relating to institutional finance to handloom weavers,


viability of small handloom units, marketing problem faced by individual weavers and
handloom clusters, etc.

(v) Comparative economics of different farming systems adopted by small farmers —


‘crop based (+wage employment)’, ‘crop + livestock’ and ‘crop + non-farm activity’
farming systems

(vi) Viability of organic farms


(vii) Doubling of farmers’ income by 2022 — scope & strategies

(viii) Nutritional Security of rural and urban poor

(F). Financial Support from NABARD to Summer Interns:


The students selected for the internship will be offered the financial benefits after their
joining of the Scheme:

The monetary benefits such as stipend, field visit allowance, local allowance & travel
allowance will be released to the students on satisfactory completion of the project. No
advance will be given to them before the submission of the report.
(G). Implementation of the Scheme:
The student may take up the assignment for a minimum of 8 weeks to a maximum of 3
months during the period from 01 April 2017 to 31 August 2017. However, NABARD
encourages students joining early in the first week of April 2017 just after their college /
institute final exams are over.
(H) Undertaking by the University/ Institute
The University/ Institute have to mention the following details/declaration in their
covering letter forwarding the CV of their students.
1. Period of summer vacation/ semester break to be mentioned.

2. Declaration that if the student from his / her university/ institute is selected for
Internship, he/she will be allowed to associate with NABARD for a minimum period of
8 weeks.

(1) Undertaking by Students


The selected students will have to give an undertaking to NABARD to the effect that he/she
will have no right/claim on the report submitted by him/her to NABARD after completion
of the assignment except submission to his/her university/institute and the NABARD shall
be free to use the same in the manner considered appropriate by it.
(J) Oath of Secrecy by Student
The students shall also give a declaration that he/she will maintain complete secrecy and
shall not use any information of confidential nature for any other purpose that might come
to his/her knowledge during the period of assignment under the Scheme.
