EXT. OVER A VAST FOREST NEAR GARDEN OF EDEN – NIGHT

The night sky is lit up by the stars and moon above. The
mountainous range off in the distance is slightly illuminated
by the stars. The night is cold with fierce blowing winds. As
we descend, the earth’s surface cannot be seen as it is
covered by a thick forest.

EXT. GATES OF THE GARDEN OF EDEN – NIGHT

In a clearing in the middle of the forest there stands a gate

100-feet high. It goes on for an infinite distance in either
direction. There are many spikes at the top of this gate, and
in the center, above the huge gateway, are two spikes that
extend at least five-feet higher than the rest. On top of
these spikes rests a shadowy figure...

At ground-level, in front of the gateway, stands the shadows

of what looks like two men...until massive wings come into
view revealing they are something different...

The cracking of a small tree branch far off in the distance

ripples through the silent night, drawing the attention of
the shadowy figure.

The eyes of the shadowy figure glow like a red flame, then
the figure disappears in an instant with a rush of wind.

EXT. FOREST OUTSIDE THE GARDEN OF EDEN - NIGHT

Miles from the gate, a smaller shadowed figure moves at an

inhuman rate through the thick bush of the forest. Lightning
and thunder light up the sky.

The figure stops and looks toward the sky when the lightning
strikes, illuminating its features...a dark leathery skin,
winged, horned DEMON #1 with pitch black eyes.

Fear crosses the demon’s face then it continues to move, even

more swiftly than before.

The demon is nearing the edge of the forest when lightning

and thunder strike again.
A flaming arrow comes out of nowhere and catches the demon in
the shoulder.
The arrow strikes with such force and speed that it carries
the demon through the clearing, and pins the creature up
against the Gates of Eden.
 2.

EXT. GATES OF THE GARDEN OF EDEN

As the creature lies pinned to the gate. The winged shadowy

figure emerges over the vast forest canopy.
The figure swoops down, landing in front of the demon without
a sound. He has red hair, red eyes, a gold belt and red wings
with a 15-foot wingspan. He is wearing copper chain-mail and
a white loincloth that comes down to his feet. This is the
ARCHANGEL URIEL, the most intimidating of all God’s angels.
He is carrying a longbow in one hand and has a sword sheathed
at his side.
He eyes the demon momentarily, then speaks with an air of
smooth intimidation.

URIEL
Do you know who I am demon?

DEMON #1
(looking fearful)
The intimidator...you are the Flame
of God!

Uriel grins menacingly at the demon’s words.

URIEL
You have escaped the Abyss and
entered the Lord’s domain...What is
your purpose here?

Uriel comes face to face with the demon, sniffs the sir, and
looks upon the creature with a stern and powerful gaze.

URIEL (CONT’D)
(in a low terrifying tone)
And remember...make thy words true,
or they will be your last...
The demon spits on the ground in front of Uriel.

DEMON #1
I will say nothing!
URIEL
That’s unwise...
Uriel slowly reaches his left hand up and places his finger-
tips to the demon’s chest, then forces his fingers to
penetrate the skin of the demon, causing it to howl in pain
as he goes deeper...

EXT. FOREST OUTSIDE THE GARDEN OF EDEN

Dozens of shadows streak by under the cover of darkness and

thick trees.
EXT. GATES OF THE GARDEN OF EDEN

Uriel’s hand is now buried in the demon’s chest down to the

second knuckle. The demon is panting heavily from the
torture.

URIEL
I see he’s still foolish enough to
believe he can take that which is
not rightfully his.

DEMON #1
(laughs mockingly)
He was right...your ignorance will
be your downfall. Thy sacred
paradise will soon come crashing
down upon you.

EXT. FOREST OUTSIDE THE GARDEN OF EDEN

A group of 50 or so demons are moving quickly toward Eden.

EXT. GATES OF THE GARDEN OF EDEN

Uriel smiles and moves within inches of the demon’s face. It
cowers a little under the angel’s powerful gaze.

URIEL
The final judgement looms, and he
too will have to bow before the
creator. But until that time...

Uriel steps back from the demon and shoulders his longbow.
URIEL (CONT’D)
It is your fate that shall be
determined this night.
Uriel places his palm on the hilt of his sword. The demon
eyes the blade with increasing apprehension.

URIEL (CONT’D)
I am my father’s messenger...sent
to protect and punish on command.
 4.

He reaches to his hip, and begins drawing a four-foot sword

from its sheath. As the sword comes out of the sheath, every
inch of the blade begins catching fire as it enters the night
air.
URIEL (CONT’D)
(sounding menacing)
And you will find that I am without
pity...

Filled with new fear, the demon struggles to free itself.

Uriel’s flaming blade comes to rest at his side.
The demon, realizing its going to die, abandons all fear.

DEMON #1
Do as you wish angel. Even you can
not stop from happening that which
the stars have foretold.

As Uriel raises his flaming sword a massive bolt of thunder

lightning strikes, illuminating the sky. The demon’s black
eyes widen with shock and fear. With swift anger and
retribution Uriel strikes twice with lightning speed, slicing
a large ‘X’ into the demon’s torso, disemboweling the
creature instantly. The demon lets loose a howl of
excruciating pain.

EXT. FOREST OUTSIDE THE GARDEN OF EDEN

The forest trees begin to thin, and in the distance a bit of

a clearing can be seen.

The deafening howl of the dying demon adds an injection of

vigor to the demons as they urge each other to move faster.

EXT. GATES OF THE GARDEN OF EDEN

As Uriel replaces his flaming blade the flame dissolves as

each inch of metal returns to its sheath. He eyes the dying
demon with contempt.

NATHANIEL (V.O.)
(speaking telepathically)
URIEL!

Uriel turns his attention to the top of the gates.

URIEL
(responds telepathically)
What is it Nathaniel?
 5.

NATHANIEL, not as large as Uriel, has black wings, black

hair, and is very muscular.

NATHANIEL
A small contingent approaches from
the south!

Uriel allows an eerie smile to cross his lips, revealing his

hunger to destroy. Behind him, six other angels land softly.
All of them scowling with various holstered weapons.

URIEL
In the name our father, we shall
defend these gates.

Uriel’s wings give a few great flaps and he is now floating

above the gates of Eden. The remaining angels on top of the
gate stand up.

URIEL
Your blades thirst for blood and
destruction, and here we shall
quench that thirst. There will be
no mercy shown on this day
brothers...only punishment.

The angels on the ground draw their weapons as he speaks.

EXT. CLEARING – JUST OUTSIDE THE FOREST

A black mass of demons emerges into the vast clearing.

EXT. GATES OF THE GARDEN OF EDEN

Uriel is floating above the gates with his longbow raised. He

reaches into his quiver, pulls out two arrows and tethers
them both at the same time. He lets loose a savage battle cry
and unleashes his arrows.
EXT. CLEARING – NEAR GATES OF EDEN

Uriel’s arrows find their marks. A few demons look at their

fallen comrades but continue to advance.
The Gates of Eden come into view when lightning strikes,
highlighting Uriel in the night sky. One demon becomes filled
with fear.
DEMON #2
It’s God’s flame!

DEMON #3
It matters not, we have our orders.
Destroy them all, and take the
gates!
THE CLEARING JUST OUTSIDE EDEN’S GATES

The demons and angels come together with a resounding crash.

BATTLE OUTSIDE GATES OF EDEN

Metal clanks against metal as the two forces clash. A number

of demons are struck down by Uriel’s arrows and the swords of
his brethren. The angels experience casualties early on
during the battle, falling at the ends of demon swords.

The battle rages on as a few of the angels become surrounded

and continue to fight with their backs to each other. An
angel swings one of his axes and sends a demon’s arm flying,
then decapitates the creature.

The remaining angels are holding their own, but their numbers
are depleting. Uriel, floating above the battle, strikes
another demon with a flaming arrow.

An angel gets separated from the pack and is battling three

demons at once. He cuts open the throat of one demon and
buries his second dagger under the chin of a second demon,
causing the blade to protrude from the top of the latter’s
skull. This is effective, but he becomes exposed and gets cut
and badly injured by his third foe.

The third demon stands above the wounded angel and raises its
black sword with both hands to deliver the final blow. Before
the demon can strike, an archaic spear comes out of nowhere
and pierces through its arm and neck, killing the demon on
impact. The spear hits with such force that it carries the
demon to the ground and pins it there.
Within a few moments there is a golden flash, a few huge
gusts of wind which cause the air to vibrate, and the sound
of flapping wings. Another angel descends to the ground just
outside the Gates of Eden, and lands next to skewered demon.
He removes the spear from the demon and proceeds into the
fray with malice etched in his face.

This is the ARCHANGEL RAPHAEL. He looks very similar to

Uriel, except Raphael has golden blond hair, gold colored
wings, and golden eyes. He is wearing a pair of gold greaves
protecting his legs, gold vambraces protecting his forearms,
a pure gold belt with a sun emblem on it, and a long white
loincloth.
 7.

Raphael’s entrance into the battle seems to tip the scales in

the angels’ favor. Uriel, who is now on the ground, and
Raphael charge the remaining demons and slay them with
berserk fury.
BATTLEFIELD – NEAR GATES OF EDEN

Uriel and Raphael stand side by side and observe the

aftermath of the battle: bodies litter the ground of the
clearing; angels are still impaled on demon swords.

RAPHAEL
(ordering the other
angels)
Gather our departed brothers and
return them home so they can be
lain before the Almighty, and their
good deeds professed to all.

Uriel turns and walks up to the gates of Eden and eyes the
disemboweled demon, showing no emotion.

RAPHAEL
I see more children of the abyss
have lost their way, and you have
guided them back the only way you
know how.

URIEL
All whom rise up against my father
will come to know the true meaning
of pain. That is my charge.

RAPHAEL
(light sarcastic tone)
And your dedication to such duties
are rivaled by no other Uriel. You
are the perfect instrument of his
vengeance.
Uriel’s expression lightens at this comment. He has never had
to defend his pitiless tactics, as they are never challenged
(not even by other angels).
Raphael curiously examines the creature pinned to the gates.

RAPHAEL
It seems the task of dismantling
this creature is one that attracted
the full scope of your rage. Might
I ask the reason for such a fate?
 8.

URIEL
This foul creature escaped Tartarus
to wreak havoc. An example needed
to be made...especially now, with
what approaches...

Raphael looks even more curious.

EDGE OF THE CLEARING - FOREST TREE LINE

Standing in the shadows of the trees looking toward the Gates

of Eden is a large figure with what looks like tusks on its
face...the rest of its facial features are unclear. After
viewing the after math of the battle for a few moments, the
figure turns and walks away into the forest, its spike tail
trailing behind it.

BATTLEFIELD – NEAR GATES OF EDEN

An expression of shock and disbelief crosses Raphael’s face.

RAPHAEL
It can’t be...

URIEL
(speaking with certainty)
It is so. I stared into the depths
of its black soul and found many
lies, but none of this.

Raphael lets Uriel’s words sink in then gathers himself.

RAPHAEL
I must inform Michael. He will want
to consult the father and ready the
Celestial Host. (Raphael places his
hand on his shoulder) Keep watch
over my post in my brief absence.

Uriel nods his agreement.

RAPHAEL
Love and glory of the father be
with you brother.
URIEL
And with you.
And with one great powerful rush of his golden wings, Raphael
shoots into the sky toward the heavens.
 9.

After taking one last critical glance at the slaughtered

demon and the carnage of the battle field, Uriel also spreads
his powerful red wings and resumes his perch atop the Gates
of Eden.
DISSOLVE TO:

EXT. WIDE ANGLES - DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES – EARLY MORNING

We have a bird’s eye view of the city of Los Angeles. A few

helicopters occupy some of the airspace. These are news
station choppers reporting the morning traffic.
INT. BED ROOM – ELLIOTT MAXWELL’S APT – EARLY MORNING

An alarm clock on a dresser reads 5:30am. A man, covered by

his blankets, is asleep.
The alarm clock sounds and the man reaches over with a weary
hand and shuts of the alarm clock.

The man tosses aside his blanket, drags his legs over the
side of the bed, and sits upright. He rubs both his eyes to
try and fully wake up.

This is ELLIOTT MAXWELL. He is a young black man around 25-

years-old.

INT. BATHROOM – ELLIOTT’S APT

Water comes shooting out of the shower head. Elliott climbs

in and stands for a while, letting the water bounce off his
head.

INT. BED ROOM – ELLIOTT’S APT

Elliott pulls on a pair of jeans, then walks over to his

closet and picks out a button-down shirt.
INT. LIVING ROOM – ELLIOTT’S APT

Elliott grabs his backpack and exits.

EXT. KRYSTAL TERRACE APTS – SHERMAN OAKS

Elliott steps into the early morning air and stops in front
of the building.
He is being watched by a shadowy figure perched atop a tall
building nearby.
He feels like someone is looking at him and he looks right to
where the figure is, but he sees nothing. Elliott walks down
the street, boards a bus, and greets the driver.
