PART 6 - TPSR

INTRODUCTION

The whole outlook on PE in high school has been to allow a relaxed environment and let

the students have some freedom. We believe this has taken away the significance of having PE

as an elective. PE is still an educational class! Our plan when it comes to offering a PE elective is

to produce students that not only have a high quality athletic ability, but students who realize that

there are more sports out there than just basketball, volleyball, and football.

The goal of TPSR physical education course in high school is to produce students with

the life-long skills and sufficient athletic ability to perform sports, games, and activities for the

rest of their lives. In addition, it is the goal of our program to teach students the importance game

play, sportsmanship, & fairplay for success. Most importantly at Chattooga County high schools

we want our student body to value the affective aspect of physical education. Our students need

to understand that sportsmanship, fair play, and teamwork are what truly make games/activities

thrive.

The physical education team at Chattooga County high school will increase in staff to

offer that best support given students in both quantity and quality.

The TPSR physical education 18-week course will increase the staff size with more physical

education certified teachers, including parapros and team teachers under the guidance of the

regular PE teachers. The PE department will shift the health classes into the am block periods so

the Physical education courses can be held in the pm block period allowing health teachers who

are also certified in physical education to team teach with the regularly scheduled PE teachers.

This will allow more quality teachers offered to help teach the Physical education courses

offered.
PART 6 - TPSR

The TPSR physical education high school movement forms (Games, Gymnastics, &

Dance) will be divided over the 18-week course. Students will have the ability to choose within

these movement forms the activities they enjoy and want to become more skillful in, and/or have

the opportunity to explore activities they are unfamiliar about and want to cure their curiosity

about them. This is the reason for increase in demand for teachers, so that the PE program can

facilitate quality instruction for the students no matter which activity they choose.

Physical Education at the high school level includes class every day.

5 days / week X 18-weeks = 90 class sessions @ 53 min. / class.

RATIONALE

Students will spend time in every group for each movement form. This course allows for
students to choose which activity to partake in based on interest within the respective
movement form. This program jumps from one movement form to another, going from
unit to unit to prevent staleness in the program. Students at Chattooga county high
school need to feel energized and excited about their physical education courses and
learn the effects of the affective domain from each movement form. Teachers will be
spread through the activities offered during the respective unit to allow for both quantity
and quality instruction and have a lot of “watchful eyes” teaching, correcting, &
motivating students. Students will be assessed by skill play or tournament at the
choosing of the teacher at the end of each unit. This will be used to assess physical
education high school standard 1.
Physical education high school standard 2 will be assessed at the end of each
class session exit tickets will be given to students with questions based on the choosing
of their activity to assess cognitive and affective knowledge of that activity. This will
provide the feedback for teachers on a daily basis. Additionally, students will be
required to make a publishing letter at the end of each unit containing information about
skills learned, tactics and game play, sportsmanship, and logs of physical activity
completed outside of the classroom. Physical education high school standard 3 is
assessed here.
An end of coarse portfolio will be required of the students. This portfolio will
contain logs on progression of all domains, any formative handouts given during the
unit, a breakdown of elements the students were required to demonstrate for each
activity chosen, self rating scale logs of sportsmanship and fair play, and how each
activity can be used to benefit themselves and teammates after high school. This
portfolio will serve as the summative assessment for teachers to evaluate overall
curriculum progression assessing physical education high school standards 4,5,6.

ELECTIVE PROGRAM
Elective programs offer a variety of courses within the Chattooga county high school physical
education department designed to provide opportunities for all students in the PE department to acquire
knowledge and movement skills related to an active healthy lifestyle.

Fall Semester:

➢ Hiking & Fishing –

o Utilizing the mountainous area of Chattooga county, students can explore the outdoors
and learn essential skills which may be quite useful one day or during an outdoor
situation such as; fishing, starting a fire, reading maps and trails, understanding wildlife,
etc.
➢ Team Sports –
o Students will be involved in traditional sports and their respective role. Furthermore,
students will also have the opportunity to participate in non-player roles which include
coaching, officiating, equipment manager, and tournament planning.
o Here the goal is for students to understand all phases of game play and take away the
knowledge that sportsmanship and teamwork are, above all, what make team sports
thrive!
➢ Project Adventure –
o With the growing phenomenon of American ninja warrior and the “grown up jungle gyms”,
we want students to explore their respective skill and fitness level while performing both
locomotor and non-locomotor movements.
o The outdoor JROTC sections has all the equipment needed for this to be a fun course.

Spring Semester:

➢ Martial Arts –
o Kickboxing, Tai Chi, and Yoga are forms of fitness that students can explore and
understand the power of control over the body and understanding there are other forms
of fitness than just basic weight training and cardiovascular training (long distance
running).
➢ Dance and Choreography –
o This is an advanced dance course for students who feel they have mastered the
fundamentals of dance and are interested in a challenging dance class with the
opportunity to create original choreography.
➢ Sports Medicine –
o This course is designed to introduce the basic skills and knowledge that lay the
groundwork for students interested in sports medicine and other health related fields.
o Students will learn about basic anatomy, physiology, prevention of injury, and various
taping and wrapping techniques.
