III. PROCEDURE

Do you like vegetables?

What kind of vegetable that you like to eat? Why it is important to eat
vegetables?

Do you have a vegetable garden in your home?

What kind of vegetable did you plant?

Why did you plant vegetables?

Miguel likes vegetables. He has a vegetable garden. His garden has tomato
plants, eggplants, okra and carrots. He counted his plants as he watered them.

“There are twenty tomato plants, thirty okra, twenty-five eggplants and ten
carrots.”

That night, he drew his plants.

“Hmmm…There are twenty tomatoes. I will draw one tomato for every five
tomato plants. And this is what Miguel draw.

2. Modeling

Let us count the number of vegetable plants that Miguel has. Remember
that each vegetable represent 5. How many tomato plants are there?

5 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20 or 5 x 4 = 20

How many okra plants are there? eggplants? carrots?

What Miguel drew is a pictograph.

A pictograph is a graphic symbol or picture representing things or ideas.

A legend is an explanation of the symbol/picture used.

3. Guided Practice

I will divide you into three groups. Each group will be given a pictograph.
Study the pictograph and answer the questions about it.

Miguel’s friend named Mark has a vegetable garden. These are his
vegetable plants. They are all vines.
