Dear Recruiting Manager,

I am writing to express my interest in the advertised ‘Geotechnical Seismic Specialist (Job# 30118)’
position at COWI. I completed my PhD in geotechnical engineering from The University of Auckland
in 2018. I am confident that my 5.5 years of research experience as graduate student (PhD and
MTech) and 6 years of industry experience as geotechnical design engineer, would allow me to
perform the duties expected of me with expected quality, determination, commitment and
uncompromising work ethic.

I am a conscientious person who works hard and is eager to learn. For the past year I have been
working with AURECON, a leading multinational engineering consulting firm, based in their
Wellington, office. I have around 6 years of professional experience (NZ, Dubai and India) in analysis
and design of foundations, deep excavations, retaining walls, ground anchors, embankments, slope
stability of soil and rock slopes, underpinning, deep tunnel shafts, ground improvement, liquefaction
and lateral spreading assessments, etc. Experienced in liaising with clients, contractors and structural
engineers in successfully delivering cost effective design solutions. The transition from academia
back into industry posed its own challenges. But my previous industry experience and very good
technical background helped me adapt to the work culture and deliver projects successfully. Working
under some of the best engineering professionals exposed me to the industry standards and develop
excellent analytical and report writing skills. I am also very grateful to my PhD supervisor Prof Mick
Pender (m.pender@auckland.ac.nz) for sharing his wisdom and knowledge, refining my thought
process and presenting me very interesting research problems.
