WIRELESS INTELLIGENT BILLING TROLLEY FOR

SHOPPING MALLS USING ZIGBEE

INTRODUCTION:

Purchasing and Shopping at big malls is becoming daily activity in metro

cities. We can see big rush at these malls on holidays and weekends. This crowd
becomes huge when there are special offers and discount. People purchase
different items and put them in trolley. After total purchase one need to go to
billing counter for payments. At billing counter the cashier prepare the bill using
bar code reader which is very time consuming process and results in long queue at
billing counter.
Our aim is to develop the system which can be used in shopping malls to solve the
problem mentioned above.

OBJECTIVE:

Here microcontroller is the heart of project, so which controls all the

components in the project shown above in the diagram.
To implement this project we are using microcontroller, RFID, ALCD
(16x2), wireless communication will be done by using Zigbee.

METHODOLOGY:

An embedded system will be placed on trolleys in the mall. It will consist of

mainly, the controller board, RFID reader and zigbee is used for communication
between transmitter and the receiver part. All the items in the mall will be equipped
with RFID tags. When person put any item in the trolley its code will be detected
and that code is send to the master billing counter, in the master billing we are
using PC, to store all the data base by DOTNET Software. For data base we are
using dotnet application. Once the PC is received the barcode it sends the
particular product cost to the controller part, price of that item will be stored in
memory. As we put the items the costs will get added to total. Thus the billing will
be done at the trolley itself. Item name and its cost will be displayed on LCD. For
detecting different items RFID reader will be used. LCD used will be 16X2
alphanumeric displays. It will be used to display item names, item cost etc.

Whenever a product is purchased it automatically checks for the expiry date.

So it helps us to remove the expired product and for remove the product, we can
use cancel key. In the front end the data base of the materials (items) is maintained
using DOTNET such as expiry, cost, offers etc. The customer is able to know all
the cost of the items in the trolley directly on display of trolley.

At the billing Counter the total bill data will be transferred to PC by wireless
Zigbee modules. Later the billing is carried out by master section.

Depending on the microcontroller architecture there will be changes in the

block diagram, I/O lines; software’s & IDE which are being used to program the
microcontroller and the coding will be done using embedded C.
