Estomax MX100
High Performance Crystallisation Waterproofing System

General

Generally the sequence of work described below should be carried out by a waterproofing
specialist approved by the Superintendent Officer. All works carried out should be strictly in
accordance with the manufacturer’s specification. This ensures that works are completed
satisfactorily, thus, the long term performance of the material is assured.

Areas of Application

Estomax MX100 is used to waterproof areas as indicated below:-

ƒ Basement / retaining walls
ƒ Swimming pools / reservoirs and dams
ƒ Waste tanks / water storage structures
ƒ Underground tunnel structures
ƒ Marine and coastal structures
ƒ R.C Flat Roof/Roof garden

Surface Preparation

1. Clean the substrate surface and make sure that it is free of loose debris, ridges and
hollows.
2. Pre-wet the surface prior to the placing of concrete.

Treatment to Construction/Expansion Joints

1. It is a MUST to incorporate Estop Estopper range of waterstop, Estocell joint filler and
Estoseal T600 or Estojoint sealant in construction/expansion joints and contraction
joints, to ensure a completely water-proof concrete. For cold joints, it is recommended to
use Estobond ES, epoxy bonding agent for excellent bonding between new and old
concrete.
2. Installation of Estop waterstops, joint fillers and sealants shall be in accordance with the
manufacturer’s recommendations and to the approval of S.O.

Note: Estop Pre Concrete Pour Checklist (PCPC-1) must be completely documented
and verified by relevant parties involved prior to the concreting works.

Application Method

Dosage

1. Add Estomax MX100 to the concrete mix at a rate of 0.7% by weight of OPC (including
fly ash and other supplementary cementing materials) up to a maximum dosage of 2.1kg
per cubic meter of concrete.

2. Estomax MX100 may be added into concrete at batching plant or concrete mixing trucks
at project site. Dosing of Estomax MX100 shall be in accordance to specification.

Dispensing

READY MIX PLANT - CENTRAL MIX OPERATION Add the required amount of Estomax
MX100 material either into the drum or onto the raw materials in the readymix plant. The
aggregate, cement and water should be batched and mixed in the plant in accordance with
standard practices. Pour the concrete into the truck and mix for at least 5 minutes to ensure
even distribution of the Estomax MX100 throughout the concrete.

Note: It is important to obtain a homogeneous mixture of Estomax MX100 with the concrete.
Therefore, do not add dry Estomax MX100 powder directly to wet concrete as this may cause
clumping and thorough dispersion will not occur.

For further information regarding the proper use of Estomax MX100 for a specific project,
consult with Estop Technical Department.

Placing and Compacting

To ensure the requirements of strength, impermeability, and durability of the hardened concrete
in the actual structure are achieved; the concrete must be properly placed and fully compacted
in accordance with good concreting practice or ACI guidelines and to the approval of S.O.

Setting Time

The setting time of concrete is affected by the chemical and physical composition of ingredients,
temperature of the concrete and climatic conditions. Extension of set time may occur when
using Estomax MX100. The amount of extended set will depend upon the concrete mix design
and the dosage rate of the Estomax MX100. Concrete containing Estomax MX100 shall not
have any adverse effect towards the ultimate strength of the concrete.

Trial mixes should be carried out under project conditions to determine setting time and strength
of the concrete.

QA/QC Procedures

1. For ready mixed concrete, the supplier must be approved by the by S.O or Consulting
Engineer and shall be minimum Grade 30 concrete.
2. All water-proof concrete should conform to specification for concrete with or without
admixtures. Trial mixes should be carried out to determine the optimum mix design to the
satisfaction of all parties concerned. The main-contractor shall carry out all necessary
tests to ascertain the strength as ordered by the S.O or Consulting Engineer.
3. Slump test shall be taken to confirm whether it is within the design tolerance.
4. Estop reserves the right to reject any batched concrete received not in full
compliance with the said specification.
5. During construction, minimum 3 test cubes shall be taken as samples for compressive
strength test. The samples shall be taken (A) before dosing of Estomax MX100 and (B)
after dosing of Estomax MX100.
6. Other than above mentioned Estomax MX100 may be used together with other concrete
mix requirement provided that adequate supervision is available. Compliance with

requirement must be assessed through trial mixes. Contact Estop Technical Department
for advice in these cases.

Curing
1. Curing of concrete is highly recommended using Estocure curing agent or minimum using
water. Alternatively pre-wet the concrete with water and cover using plastic sheet Curing
using water must be done every hour in accordance to good concreting practice for the
first 7 days of concrete age. Refer ACI Reference 308, “Standard Practice for Curing
Concrete”.
2. Alternately, chemical curing compounds with curing efficiency of 90% or more are a
satisfactory curing agent for Estomax MX100 treated concrete.
