Project Management Essay

For a project that I completed in 2013 for my Eagle Scout, I had to establish everything about
the project. I went to a local business and asked if they needed any tasks to be completed, that were of
a decent significance. The project selected was constructing a 90 foot fence for the local nature center.
Approval of the project was granted by the leaders of the Boy Scout Troop to ensure that the scope and
main focus of the project were both attainable and relevant, respectively. The planning of the project
took approximately two to three months. I first had to establish what the customer wanted/needed for
the fence, then came up with multiple designs for the fence. The multiple designs were then discussed
with the troop leadership to determine which was most feasible while adhering to the customer’s
wants/needs. The planning of execution required an approximation of materials needed based off of
how long and high the fence would be. Tools needed were also determined. The amount of people
required was based off of the amount of tasks to be completed and the amount and types of tools
needed for each task. Funding for the project was generated from some third party and personal
fundraising. Monitoring of the project lasted one day since the project was completed in one day.
Multiple pictures were taken to document the construction process. The closure phase of the project
included a write up of documentation, capturing the lessons learned and recognizing the achievement of
executing and completing the project within one day.
