Very good, after having our first activity Yes, Ma’am. Our next topic is about
do you have any ideas as what might be Fractions, Decimals and Percentage.
our next topic?

Very good.
Thank you for your ideas_____.

E. DISCUSSING NEW CONCEPTS AND PRACTICING NEW SKILLS

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES STUDENT’S ACTIVITIES

Today, our topic is all about Fundamental

Operations on:
 Fractions
 Decimals
 Percentage

Our objectives are:

(Everybody read) 1. Perform fundamental operations
on fractions and decimals.
2. Express fractions to decimals and
percent forms and vice versa.
3. Illustrate how decimals and
fractions can be written in terms of
percent.
4. Give real-life situations to illustrate,
fractions, decimals, and percent.
5. Solve problems involving fractions,
decimals, and percent.

Financial transaction particularly in

business is common in our everyday
activities such as buying, selling,
investing, supplying and distributing
commodities.
Therefore, fundamental operations not
only on whole numbers and decimals but
on fractions too is a necessity to make
one survive in this business world.

DAILY LESSON PLAN FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADE 11-PAGE 3

Fraction
Everybody read. Fractions are written as two numbers,
one over the other, and separated by a
bar.
Fractions composed of two terms:
The numerator and the denominator.
1------ Numerator
2------Denominator

There are 2 kinds of Fractions:

The Proper Fractions and Improper
Fractions.

Proper Fraction Proper fraction is a fraction whose

Everybody read. numerator is LESS THAN its
denominator.
Examples: ¼, 2/3,7/10

Improper Fraction Improper fraction is a fraction whose

Everybody read numerator is EQUAL or MORE THAN its
denominator.
Examples: 9/7, 23/9

9/7 and 23/9 can be expressed as 1 2/7 (Students are listening)

and 2 5/9 respectively, consisting of
whole numbers and proper fractions
which are called MIXED NUMBERS.

Therefore, a MIXED NUMBER is

considered an IMPROPER FRACTION.

To add and subtract fractions:

If it is similar fractions, take the sum or

find the difference of their numerators
over the common denominator.

For Examples:

¼ + ¾ = 4/4 or 1

¾ - ¼ = 2/4 or ½

By using materials given,

Find the sum and difference of:
9/11 + 7/11= __ Solution:
9/11+ 7/11= 16/11 or 1 5/11
Least Common Denominator (LCD)
9/11 - 7/11 = __ 9/11 - 7/11 = 2/11

The product of fractions can be obtained

by multiplying both numerators and then
both denominators of the given fractions.

For Example:
½ x ¼ = 1/8

Find the product of: Answer:

2/3 x 3/6 = 2/3 x 3/6 =6/18 or 1/3

DAILY LESSON PLAN FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADE 11-PAGE 4

Cancellation method maybe applied to
simplify computation.

To divide a fraction by another fraction,

multiply the dividend by the reciprocal or
multiplicative inverse of the divisor.

For Example:

2/3 / 3/6 = _
2/3 x 6/3 =12/9 or 1 3/9 or 1 1/3

Find the quotient of:

¾ / ¼ =_ Solution:
¾/¼=
¾ x 4/1 = 12/4 or 3

Decimals.
Everybody read. Decimals are a special way of writing
PROPER FRACTIONS that have
denominators with ZERO (0) or with the
so called CIPHER.

Thus,
1/10, 2/100, 3/1,000, 4/10,000
.10 , .02 , .003 , .0004

To change any common fractions to

decimal, divide the numerator and write
the quotient in decimal form.

Example: Change 3/5 to a decimal

3/5 = 3/5 =.6

Try to answer this problem by using

Multiplication and Division of Decimals.

Problem: Solution:
An employee’s salary is P132,600 a year. Salary a year= P132,600
At this rate, how much does he earn in 7 Salary per Month
months? P132,600/12months=P11,050 per month

P11,050 salary per month

X 7 months
P77,350 earned in 7 months

Very good students.

Let’s have a HEP-HEP, HORAY clap. (Students execute the HEP-HEP,
(Execute) HORAY clap.

Percent
Everybody read Percent is from the Latin word “per
centrum”.
It is a fractional expression showing that
a given number is to be divided by 100.

DAILY LESSON PLAN FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADE 11-PAGE 5

The symbol % is used to represent
percent. Therefore, the term percent also
means out of every hundred.

Examples:
16% = .16
5% = .05

Conversion:
Fraction Decimal Percent
1/4 .25 25%
1/2 .50 50%
3/4 .75 75 %

Percentage Problems:
Problems involving percent and fractional
relationships are those that include
solutions of Three Basic Factors:
P- Percentage
R- Rate (%)
B- Base (ALWAYS higher/bigger than the
Percentage)

Finding the Percentage:

Formula:
P=B X R or
P=R X B

By using the formula,

Find 20% of 850 Solution:
Given: R=20%
B= 850
Formula:
P= B X R
P= P850 X .20
P= P170
Show your Answer.
Very good.
Everybody got the correct answers.

Finding the Base:

Formula:
B= P/R

15 is 10% of what number? Solution:

Given: P=15
R= 10%
Formula:
B= P/R
B=15/.10
B=150
Show your Answer.
Very good.
Everybody got the correct answer.

Finding the Rate:

Formula:
R=P/B

DAILY LESSON PLAN FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADE 11-PAGE 6

P60 is what % of 250 Solution:
Given: P=P60
B=P250
Formula:
R =P/B
R=60/250
R= .24 or 24%
Show your Answer.
Very good.
Everybody got the correct answer.
