¡Hola a todos!

“Reading Across America/Lectura por toda América” is still in full swing here at
Claypit! Our students have really enjoyed reading interesting non-fiction books and
voting for their favorite.

Every student has met with their partner to devise a plan for their bird feeder and
many have already started constructing them! It has been so much fun watching
students work together to problem solve and create some very unique designs.
Thank you for sending in all the necessary materials!

I am looking forward to meeting with more of you this week for parent-teacher
conferences. Many parents have asked for their child’s LEXIA login so they can get
some extra English practice at home. The username and password are both their
four digit student ID number (all students have this memorized and use it for every
app they access).

La contraseña secreta (secret password) to come into the classroom this week will
be “leer es crecer” (to read is to grow).

A peek at our  In Spanish Language Arts, we will continue working on
week  syllables with vowel “e,” and write about the books we like to
read in writer’s workshop.

We will continue to practice the newest “palabras con poder”
are: veo, allí, tengo, un, esa.

In Math, we continue our formas geométricas (geometric
shapes) two month unit! Students are catching on very
quickly! See what figuras geométricas they can spot and
name at home!

In Social Emotional learning, as part of our Open Circle
curriculum, we will be learning and talking about “how to get
the teachers’ attention appropriately.”
Friendly  Please continue to send your child with boots, gloves, hats,
Reminders  scarves and snow pants! Even as the temperature fluctuates,
we would rather have “more” than “less.” Even though we
may not have snow, we will certainly have mud! Students are
also welcome to keep a change of shoes or their snow pants
at school so that they don’t have so much to carry on a daily
basis.

Many students are coming to school with exciting jewelry
and accessories that can be a distraction. Please use your
discretion and consider asking your child to leave these at
home where they can be enjoyed and kept safe!

If your child is sick or will be absent, please continue to email
myself, Señora Ponce (federica_ponce@wayland.k12.ma.us)
and the school (ch_attendance@wayland.k.12) so that
everyone is in the loop!

Action items  Many students already have personal headphones at

school but not all. I was able to borrow a few pairs from
our tech lab but do not have enough for the students who
do not have their own. If you could check with your child
and please send in headphones for them to use, it would
be greatly appreciated!

Incorporating  Many card and board games can easily be adapted to be
more Spanish at  played in Spanish. Some classroom favorites are: Uno,
home  Monopoly, and Go Fish (a pescar).

Encourage students to use the past “contraseñas secretas”
with you at home! Previous contraseñas: Gracias, por favor,
buenos días, puedo ir al baño, puedo tomar agua, permiso,
buenas tardes, me gusta, no me gusta, feliz año nuevo, yo
