2. How do you achieve the best Scale / Compilation when using ENC’s?
a) Explain meaning of each part of ENC cell no. for example IT500357
5. What is Category of Zone of Confidence of Data (CATZOC) and where within our SMS guidelines could be
found?
6. Where would you find the Data Quality Pattern/CATZOC/Quality Object Setting?
a) Where within ECDIS can be found information about CATZOC category of ENC cell currently
displayed.
7. Can you change the charted Symbology between Traditional (Paper) and Simplified ( S – 52 )
9. Do you use RNC? If so what are the Limitations when using RNC’s on ECDIS.
If so where is it?
If not, what publication can you reference?
12. Setting of Critical alarms (eg: Safety Depth, Safety Contour, XTD, Look ahead/Anti grounding con -
activating/setting the danger vector/sector) in different regimes i.e. open sea, coastal, harbor & etc. and
where same could be found within our SMS. Is this complying with the UKC Policy?
a) In case 2nd Mate is new how he would set by himself Look ahead/Anti grounding con without
using guidelines of Company SMS.
Answer: depth of sea water, max draft, speed and information’s from maneuvering diagram (
turning circle).
13. In case inspector ask 2nd Mate if he is setting alone parameters of Critical alarms – (Safety Depth, Safety
Contour, XTD, Look ahead / Anti grounding con) 2nd Mate’s answer should be NO, he is setting it as per
requirements of company SMS and in consultation / agreement with the Master. 2nd Mate must be able to
shown inspector where within our SMS this information can be found.
Once these critical alarms are set it does not have to be locked but Master must given clear instructions to all
members of bridge team (navigating officers) that parameters / settings of critical alarms should not be
changed without his approval.
If settings are changed during voyage then all navigating officers should be immediately informed that
settings / parameters were changed.
16. Are the navigating officers familiar with the AIS display filtering mode (as applicable).
17. Route / Passage Plan Planning (eg: Zone of Confidence (ZOC), off track distance (XTD), Route back-
up) and how is verification of the planned route / Passage Plan made ( 2 nd Mate must be able to show
inspector how verification of Passage Plan is made ).
18. Please ask 2nd mate to show you how he is doing route check once new route is set up and activated. The
2nd Mate must initiate ‘’route check’’ and check each individual alarm which has appeared. Master and all
navigating officers must be fully conversant with setting a new route and performing route check before
activating new route.
20. When was the Last time a LOP Fix was applied.
21. What other types of Position Fixes are applied to the Charts/Cells and the interval.
23. How can you view the Playback function to check previous fixes and etc?
25. Correction of ENC’s with notice to mariners (NTM) and verification of the same (verification should be
made by you as a Master at regular interval).
26. Updating ENC’s with T&P notices to mariners and verification of same ( verification should be made by
You as a Master at regular interval).
27. Updating ENC’s with Navarea warnings and verification of same (verification should be made by you as a
Master at regular interval).
33. Maintenance of ECDIS equipment including back-up arrangements and reporting of defects.
34. When was the last time IHO Data Presentation and Performance Check Tested?
36. Please confirm that 2nd Mate is fully conversant with ECDIS guidelines stipulated within latest, updated
version / revision of Company SMS.
