In this article Nelson provides the reader with the information of what occurs to our
ecosystem when littering is exposed to it. After she analyzes data from past information of what
pollution does to the ecosystem and how littering is a major issue in it she provides the reader
with the information on how it affects all the animals, plants, and even us. The article also
provides research on the different types of pollution and also other things that can lead to
pollution like effects, such as littering or oil spills. Nelson then goes on to provide data on what
occurs with certain types of pollution, in example how oil spills have the potential to cause long
term damage to the oceanic ecosystem or how the dumping of chemicals in certain bodys of
water can cause algae to thrive which in turn will deplete the nearby area of oxygen which, in
turn, kills all the plants and fish around the area. This article provides an accurate account of

what occurs to the ecosystem when humans litter or cause pollution; this will allow me to help
plan out ways to help prevent littering and pollution in my nearby area. With all of the usable
information given to me from the article I will have the ability to enhance my project and make it
more accurate with the information that I have analyzed and used.
Revermann, S. (2019). How Does Littering Affect the Ecosystem?. [online] seattlepi. Available
2019].
In this article Revermann conveys the facts about how trash can end up in certain places
and also what damage it will cause when it arrives there. The author begins to share the
information by giving us facts that she derived from multiple credible sources, such as data from
the Virginia Department of Transportation about how much it spends in damages caused by
littering as well as multiple other departments throughout the United States. The article tells of
how littering can change the environment no matter how big or small it is, and that there are
different locations litter can go that cause different types of damages. This article provides a
sufficient overview of the direct and indirect damages that can be caused by littering, Along with
this it tells of how much it cost a city to clean up litter that is found in its city limits. This article
sparks the ideas of going to the beach perhaps to go and clean that up as well since a lot of waste
makes its way there as well. Almost all the information provided by the article and its sources
www.conserve-energy-future.com/littering-effects-humans-animals-environment.php.
In this article written by Amar Rinkesh he shows the reader the after affects of littering
and what it cost to clean it up. Rinkesh shares data that he gathered, from research studies of
several universities, and tells the audience that littering affects everything from the ecosystem,
the city, and even humans. This article shows us that littering can cause millions of dollars in
damages and clean up all because people are too inept to throw their trash away in dedicated
areas. Rinkesh provides us with the overall process that is needed to clean up a city from littering
and how much it cost the city in taxpayer dollars. Along with this information, he provides data
on other subsequent effects of littering such as that many diseases are the product of littering.
This overall data on the effects of littering as well as the detailed pieces of how littering cost
cities money will allow me to know the cost of littering and also the work that goes behind
cleaning it up.
Lake, Rebecca. “23 Littering Statistics That Will Blow Your Mind.” CreditDonkey,
In this article written by Rebecca Lake she gives the reader many facts about littering as a
whole such as which places litter the most, what it damages, what it cost to clean up, and prime
littering locations. Lake pulls the data from many sources ranging from National Geographic to
the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrator to give us accurate information on littering.
This article gives us facts about littering such as how much the average person recylcys to how

littering can cause diseases. In this Lake gives us percentages as well that can be traced to
credible sources about how much littering has increased as well as how much is floating around
in the ocean. These facts given to me by Rebecca Lake will aid me in my project as it gives me
facts about multiple different things as well as giving me data to help base some of my opinions
off of.
Blouin, Lou. “The Psychology of Littering.” The Allegheny Front, The Allegheny Front, 8 Feb.
2016,www.alleghenyfront.org/the-psychology-of-littering.
In this article written by Lou Blouin he explores the idea of how littering can make a city,
, state, or street look like a unappealing place to outsiders and what damages it can cause. Here
Blouin cites surveys that occured in 1960 that say “...people were much more accepting about
throwing waste just openly in public spaces,”(Blouin). Then he goes to another survey that
occured in 1980 that showed that people found littering to be taboo and even unethical. Blouin
then goes to talk to California State University social psychologist Wesley Schultz and he says
that the topic of littering has become much more restrained and isn't seen as often as it was about
thirty or fourty years ago. From this article I will be able to use the information where he talks
about how littering has grown into a taboo now and is not occurring as often as it has in the past.
Along with this I can potentially come to us the video interview that occured between Blouin and
Wesley Schultz.
