Cub Cheers: Congratulations to the Leadership students in

Mrs. Piccinini’s and Mr. Fisher’s room they did our Friday
Announcements last week were fabulous! Congratulations to the
following students for outstanding behavior and earned the Cox
Cub of the Week: Jade Rodriguez, Amanda Ola,
Abigail Zacharias, Ethan Saengdara, Aiden Saengdara,
Vuk Pantovik, Siana Knox, Ava Biondi, Ethan Reitz,
Johnny rose, Matthew Martinez, Ien Kirkland, Sarah Lewis,
Leeden McPeak, and Brooklyn April.

Fifth Grade Musical Performance: This Friday, 3/15/19, will

be our 5th Grade Musical Performance. There are 2
performances one at 9:30 am and the other at 2:15 pm both in
the MP Room.

DMC Family Dinner Night: Tomorrow, Tuesday, 3/12, at the

Chik-fil-A on Eastern and Ione from 4pm – 8 pm is our monthly family dinner night! Cox gets 20% of profits for dine-in or
drive through customers when they show the flyer. Flyer came home today, Monday.

Milers Announcements (2nd posting): Parents, a number of students are being dropped off at the Miler’s time and not
attending Milers but instead playing on the playground. This is not a before school care program. Students cannot be on
campus prior to 8:55 am unless they’re participating in Milers. This has been such an increased concern, as there is no
supervision for students until 8:55 am that we are asking Milers to lock the gates back up at 8:45 am.

Parent Meetings at Cox this Week: Our monthly School Organizational Team meeting will be tomorrow, Tuesday 3/12, at
5 pm in the Library. Following that meeting is our PTA meeting beginning at 6 pm. As in previous meetings, all parent
attendance earns their student(s) 5 points extra credit. This month it’s for math.

SBAC Tests are Here: We are so excited for our students to get going on the state exams this year. Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th
graders have been working very hard on their curriculum! We’re beginning our SBAC Testing assemblies this week, pairing
intermediate classrooms up with primary for their “spirit support,” and once again, offering all proficient students the chance
to win a new Chromebook! Each year we raffle off 12 new Chromebooks and all students who earn a perfect score are
awarded a Chromebook automatically! We’re offering testing attendance incentives as well to minimize the make-ups. The
students have performed very well on their MAPS tests last month and those tests mirror the SBACs almost exactly. All tests
are taken on computers and the schedule is as follows; we’re hoping to finish everyone before spring break:

 Third Grade: March 18-22 (ELA and Math)

 Fourth Grade: March 25-29 (ELA and Math)
 Fifth Grade: April 1-4 (ELA, Math, and Science)

Parents, we provide “cutie” oranges, sugar free gum, and suckers throughout their testing window and have found that small
snack breaks along with chewing gum/suckers keeps their minds focused during the test along with the smell of peppermint.
We are asking for donations to your student’s room during their testing window. Donations can be brought to the front office
or directly to your student’s teacher.

We have school-wide quiet hours from 9:15 am – 11:20am and then again at 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. We ask that for your
student’s testing window they get to school on time and not be picked up early. If at all possible to not schedule doctor’s
appointments or vacation days during their testing blocks. We will be testing 100% of our students this year and will be
avoiding the 9 point penalty we suffered last year due to having less than 100% tested.
Students will not be retained or receive classrooms grades based on their SBAC scores for the exams this year.

DMC Staffing Update: Each year, parents are offered the opportunity to request a teacher for the upcoming year for their
student(s). This is only a request and not all requests can be given. Establishing classrooms is a balance between academics,
gender, class sizes, and behaviors and both the teachers and administration work diligently to balance the classrooms. We
already know of staffing changes for the upcoming year. By the end of March, a staffing list will be posted in the newsletter
and then request letters will be accepted through April. No letters of requests will be accepted after April and if staffing
changes are made, a second request will NOT be possible. All classroom assignments for Cox are mailed out at the end of
June along with supply lists. Administration DOES NOT meet with parents or respond to emails because their request was
not granted.

Parent News: Parents, for those who donated to our Holiday Mash-up this year your tax donation letters for your 2018 taxes
will be coming home this week. Please look in your child’s backpack for the sealed envelope.

Proposed Make-up Snow Day: The School Board will be voting this week to use the March 22nd day as the make-up day for
the 2/22 day missed. CCSD is proposing that day (which is a day of non-student attendance) but it is up to the Board’s vote.
