Australia Day —
celebration or mourning?

The First Fleet arrived at Port Jackson on 26 January 1788. This day has been, and still is, remembered in many ways
and called many things.

The tradition of having Australia Day as a national


Australia Day holiday on 26 January is a recent one. Not

until 1935 did all the Australian states and territories
since 1935)
use the name 'Australia Day' to mark 26 January. European

2 a Describe the Day of Mourning protest.


A day which the Australian’s protest agency the British and also the protest is held in 1938 26th of January.

b What did the protest achieve?

The Aboriginal’s are demonstrating and expressing their feeling towards different race. Aboriginal’s protest and
