Operation Function

Compresso CPV is a modular, precision pressure maintenance system (± 0.1 bar) with compressors,
water make-up and degassing, for closed heating, solar, and chilled water systems. It consists essen-
tially of one TecBox (1), one primary vessel (2) and optional secondary vessels (3). Its functionality can
be extended with additional equipment.

TecBox The TecBox (1)

Ready-to-operate unit, which is linked hydraulically to the consumer system by connection pipes DN
and pneumatically to the primary vessel (2) by a polyamide hose (1.1) pages 06 | 14-15. TecBox (1)
integrates Module C (pressure maintenance), Module P (water make-up), Module V (degassing) and the
BrainCube control (1.2). Combinations with additional calibrated equipment are possible, for example
ComCube DCD.
The TecBox (1) is offered with safety valves with various response pressures. These are relevant for
the inspections legally required in Switzerland.

BrainCube control (1.2)

For intelligent, secure system operation | Monitoring of all processes – silentrun, fillsafe vacusplit | self-
optimising with memory function | self-explanatory, operation-orientated menu layout.

silentrun pressure maintenance PIS with Module C

Particularly silent operation. 1 compressor K, 1 spill valve V. When heated, the expansion water flows
into the primary vessel (2). Pressure in the vessel rises, and spill valve V allows air to escape. When
cooled, the expansion water flows back from the primary vessel (2) into the system; pressure in the
vessel falls, and compressor K comes on. The hysteresis between spill valve V «open» and compres-
sor K «on» is ± 0.1 bar.

fillsafe water make-up FIQ with module P

Water make-up with contact water meter and EN 1717 Standard break tank AB, SVGW-approved.
Pressure maintenance/monitoring device in accordance with EN 12828 -4.7.4; quantity/time/frequency
checking. In systems with water-glycol mixtures, note that the fillsafe water make-up has no dosing
function and may affect the concentration.

vacusplit degassing with module V

Degassing of system water and make-up water by vacuum in a special vacusplit vessel VG without
oxygen ingress. vacusplit degassing is activated by operation of pump P and overflow valve V. The
Vento dynamic spray degassing with spin effect allows almost complete separation of the gas from
the water. At certain times, degassing can be deactivated through the menu - Parameters.

The following degassing programs are available:

08
• Interval degassing: keeps the gas content in the system at a constant low level.
de Daily at multiple short intervals. Automatic start following start-up. The BrainCube (1.2)
calculates the duration of degassing according to the size of the system.
fr • Continuous degassing: Quickly decreases gas content in the system water. Activated using the
en menu - Parameters in the BrainCube. The BrainCube (1.2) calculates the duration of degassing
according to the size of the system. The time remaining is indicated on the BrainCube (1.2)
nl (menu - Info).
• Water make-up degassing: Decreases gas content in the make-up water. Activated automatically
at each make-up sequence.

Daily vacuum test to check oxygen-tightness.

As many secondary vessels (3) as required can be connected to the primary vessel (2).

! Operation with In Switzerland, there is no legal inspection requirement by the SVTI for vessels up to
Safety valve SV only! PS * V = 3000 bar * litres. The following combinations with TecBox are recommended.
Condition: SV ≥ PSV ( page 11):

Primary vessel (2) TecBox safety valve (SV)

≤ 1000 litre 3 bar
≤ 800 litre 3.75 bar
≤ 700 litre 4.2 bar
≤ 600 litre 5 bar

Additional equipment ComCube DCD

The ComCube DCD communication module is connected to the BrainCube control through the
RS 485 interface. This extends its functionality. There are also six digital inputs available for registe-
ring and displaying external volt-free signals, and nine volt-free, separately configurable digital out-
puts. These can be used, for example, for connecting LEDs to give a simple clear display of primary
vessel content, or for sending selected parameters to the central monitoring station.
 ComCube Assembly | Operation

ComCube DCA
The ComCube DCA communication module provides 2 galvanically isolated 4-20 mA analogue out-
puts. These make it easy to send PIS pressure signals and LIS content signals to a central monito-
ring station.

Setting parameters Variant 1

HST Static height

Variant 1: You want to set the actual static height.
Variant 2: You would like the Compresso CPV to work at
the specified target pressure pman. In this case, set the
static height as follows:

HST
HST = (pman – 0.7 bar) * 10 ΔpP
PSV
The target pressure value must be at least equal to the ac-
TAZ
tual static height.
Example: Compresso
CPV
Actual static height : HST = 21 m
PIS
Target pressure : pman = 3.5 bar
Static height to be set : HST = 28 m
HST = (3.5 – 0.7) * 10 bar = 28 m

• Lock shield valves KAH (5) should be installed in the DNe expansion pipes. We recommend also having
a fill/drain tap (2.2, 3.2) installed by the customer between KAH and the flexible hose.
• With Compresso CPV, intermediate vessels are not necessary since the maximum operating tempera-

DN connecting pipes for TecBox (1)

• Connection is made on the suction side of the circulating pumps, near the connection of the DNe ex-
pansion pipe. For heating installations on the return line.
• Compresso CPV must be integrated into the central volumetric flow of the system, otherwise degas-
sing may be insufficient. The pipe to SE is connected first in the direction of the main volumetric flow,
then the pipe to SA. Protect the TecBox from dirt page 17.
• The DN connecting pipes are connected off-circuit to the TecBox (1), and do not require additional
safety shut-off devices. The TecBox has integrated lock shield/ball valves.
• In areas particularly sensitive to noise, we recommend fitting flexible hoses to connections SE and SA.

Start-up
Hydr. compensation P1 • Compressor K2 and spill valve V2 bring the pressure
in the expansion vessels (2, 3) up to the system
pressure calculated by BrainCube.
Note: This process can take several minutes.
If system pressure cannot be reached within
5 minutes, this step is automatically aborted with an
«unsuccessful» message and must be repeated.
• Pump and overflow capacity (P1, V1) must then be
adjusted so that the calculated flush pressure is
present in vacusplit vessel VG. The adjustment is
made at regulating fitting DV1.
• If the adjustment is insufficient, the BrainCube
indicates that further adjustment is required.

Water make-up • Water make-up select yes or no.

• no: make-up function inactive.
• yes: water make-up function is checked auto-
matically.

IBN complete • The system can only go into operation after all
start-up steps have been completed and confirmed.

standby or auto • standby: select this if Compresso CPV is not going

into operation yet, but the display function is to be
activated.
• auto: select this if all the requirements for start-up
are present, and Compresso CPV is to go into
operation.

After starting in auto, note:

22 • If desired, activate the key lock ( page 10).
• When auto operation is started, the compressor raises the pressure up to the calculated system
de pressure. When the compressor switches off, check the pressure and the vessels:
fr - The analog pressure indicator on the display must be visible. It appears only in the admissible
range between min (P0) and max (PSV) ( page 11).
en System under
- Vent the bags in all vessels (2, 3) at the bag vent valves EVG until water escapes.
! pressure
nl - Drain off any condensation water at condensate drain KV on the vessels.
(air-water jet)
• Then start interval degassing. In the Parameters menu, you can toggle between interval degas-
sing
and continuous degassing.

Start-up is now complete. Compressor CPV works automatically.

BrainCube with ComCube DCA

For the building management system, PIS pressure and LIS content can be made avalable in the
form of galvanically isolated 4-20 mA signals through the ComCube DCA ( electrical connection
page 19). Parameter settnigs must not be made on the BrainCube. The conversions of PIS and LIS
4-20 mA signals are performed by the customer.
To evaluate PIS for the Compresso CPV, check that the pressure in the consumer system is not dis-
played continuously. The process-related pressures in the vacusplit vessel VG are being transferred
during degassing and water make-up.

Operation Operating modes

Basic principles

As far as this is possible, the Compresso CPV is designed to be maintenance-free. Operation is con-
trolled and monitored by the BrainCube ( pages 10 | 11). Operating states and deviations from
normal operation are displayed and can if necessary be transferred to the central monitoring station
over the digital outputs or through ComCube communication modules.

In general, auto operating mode is distinguished from standby mode. To ensure safety at work, the
Compresso CPV should be assumed to be in operation when in either mode. Before working on the
electrical components, Compresso CPV should be shut down. Pull out the mains plug (1.2.1).
! Place the BrainCube off circuit. Important: output POT1 | POT2 terminal plan page 20.

auto

After a successful start-up, the Compresso CPV remains in auto mode all year round, whether the
connected heating or cooling system is switched on or off. This is required in order to ensure pres-
sure maintenance.

In auto mode, all functions are performed and monitored automatically.

standby

This operating mode is particularly suitable for maintenance work.

Standby mode can be selected manually. The pressure maintenance, water make-up and degassing
functions go off, and error messages are not displayed or registered.

menu

All functions of the Compresso CPV can be selected, tested and modified from the main menu.

check

We recommend carrying out preventive maintenance and a function check once per year. Pneumatex
Customer Service can provide these services for you at a cost.

All the main services are listed and described in the special check menu. You can obtain more details
through direct dialog with the BrainCube.

auto mode is deactivated in the check menu. Messages that occur during function tests, or when
the pumps and valves are being adjusted, are stored in the message list.

Pressure indicator page 10 In check mode, corresponds to the current pressure in the vacusplit
vessel VG. After maintenance work is completed, automode must be activated again.

In addition to following the check maintenance instructions, the following operations/checks are either
required or recommended:

Safety valve
Vent the safety valve (SV) on the Compresso TecBox ( page 7). The valve must blow off.
Please follow the local maintenance regulations and maintenance instructions for the installation con-
!
cerned!

Condensate in vessels
Carefully operate condensate drain KV ( pages 6 | 15) on the primary and secondary vessels and
! allow any accumulated condensate to drain off. Caution: the vessels are pressurised! Water may
spray out.
The quantity of condensate depends on vessel size and operating conditions, and may vary from a
few millilitres to several litres. If the flow of condensate continues for too long, the butyl bag may be
damaged. In this case, please contact Pneumatex Customer Service.

Spill valve V2 blow-off capacity

check - pumps/valves: compressor P/K2 On + valve V2 open + valve V1 open. While both are in ope-
ration, check that system pressure PIS falls.
Stop the check when pressure falls by 0.2 bar (standby key). Blow-off capacity is sufficient. 25
If system pressure rises during the check, blow-off capacity is too low. Check noise absorber SD
( pages 6 | 7) and if necessary strainer SF2 ( pages 6 | 7) for soiling, and clean or replace if ne- de

cessary. fr

Operation Inspection | Disassembly

Inspection

There are no unified international regulations applicable for periodic inspections and system checks
before start-up. Please comply with the regulations at the place where the Compresso CPV is instal-
led. Classification is usually determined by the expansion vessels (2, 3) and the vacusplit vessel VG.
These are CE type-approved in accordance with Pressure Equipment Directive PED/DEP 97/23/EC.

In Switzerland, the Compresso CPV does not require inspection by the SVTI if the system is protec-
ted so that PSCH is not exceeded.

Either flange or endoscope inspection openings are provided for periodic examination of the vessels.

Disassembly

Before inspection or disassembly, the TecBox (1) and vessels (2, 3) must be pressureless and allowed
!
to cool. Operate the vent and drain devices slowly and carefully. The system is pressurised! When re-
moving the polyamide hoses on the air side, please refer to the notes in the «Assembly» section!

1. Shut down the entire system:

1.1 Put the Compresso CPV on standby.
1.2 Close lock shield valves (5) at the SA and SE connections of the TecBox, and the customer’s
SNS shut-off valve.
1.3 Close lock shield valves (5) on the expansion pipes.
1.4 Empty the vessels (2), (3) at the customer’s drain valves. Pressure and filling level can be
monitored on the BrainCube.
1.5 Carefully open the KV condensate drains at the vessels (2, 3) until the vessels are pressureless.
1.6 Carefully vent the SV safety valve until the TecBox (1) is pressureless.
1.7 Shut down the TecBox (1) by pulling out the mains plug (1.2.2).

! Important: Limited 2. Shut down the secondary vessel while the system is running:
operation only! Then, the Compresso CPV can still be operated with the primary vessel.
2.1 Compresso CPV on auto.
2.2 Close the lock shield valves (5) on the expansion pipes to the secondary vessels.
27
2.3 Shut off the secondary vessel (3) on the air side of the primary vessel (2), and any
additional secondary vessels at the ball valves of the T-branch (3.2.1). de
2.4 Empty the secondary vessel (3) on the water side at the customer’s drain valve.
System under fr
2.5 Carefully open the KV condensate drain at the secondary vessel concerned (3) until the

Safety

Appliance
! Compresso CPV is a modular, precision pressure maintenance system (± 0.1 bar) with compressors, water
make-up and degassing, for closed heating, solar, and chilled water systems. Applications other than the
ones described require prior agreement with Pneumatex. A declaration of conformity is included and certi-
fies compliance with EU directives. Follow the special regulations applying at the place of installation of the
Compresso CPV.
Follow the instructions
! Assembly, operation, maintenance, and disassembly must be performed as described in these instructions,
and in accordance with best practice. If anything is unclear, please contact the Pneumatex customer ser-
vice. The required commissioning tests and periodic inspections must be carried out according to the re-
gulations of the country where the equipment is installed and operated. Before disassembling any
pressurised components, the expansion vessel and TecBox must be made pressureless.
Personnel
! Installation and operating personnel must possess the appropriate skills and training.
Place of installation
! Access to the place of installation must be restricted to trained and specialized personnel. The floor statics
must be able to support the maximum operating and assembly conditions. The connections for electricity,
mains water, and waste water must be appropriate for the requirements of the equipment. The room must
be ventilated.
Quality of equipment and materials
! The materials used must comply with current regulations and must not have visible damage, particularly in
the case of pressurised components. Welding work on pressurised components, or modification of the
electrical circuits, is not allowed. Only the manufacturer’s original parts must be used.
Observe the parameters
! The details concerning manufacturer, year of construction, serial number and technical data can be found
on the type plates on the TecBox and expansion vessels. The regulation measures must be taken to pro-
vide temperature and pressure protection, i.e. to ensure that the system does not exceed or fall below the
maximum and minimum operating parameters respectively.
Protection against accidental contact
! when high temperatures are present. Thermal insulation measures are usually limited to the expansion pipes
28 and intermediate vessels in heating systems. Caution! Higher temperatures can occur under the TecBox
cover in normal operating conditions. The level of protection from accidental contact as defined in EN60529
de is indicated by the IP code on the type plate.

fr Water quality
! Compresso CPV is designed for use in closed heating, solar and cooling systems with water that contains
en
no aggressive or toxic agents. The Pneumatex airproof butyl bag reliably prevents the diffusion of oxygen
nl
in the expansion vessel(s) and any direct contact between the vessel sides and the water. The entire sy-
stem must be dimensioned and operated in such a way as to minimise the amount of oxygen admitted
through the make-up water or through permeable components. Water treatment systems are to be dimen-
sioned, installed, and operated according to the current state of the art.
Electrical connection
! Electrical wiring and connections must be carried out by a skilled professional in accordance with current
local regulations. The system must be shut down before working on any of the electrical components.

Failure to follow these instructions, in particular the safety instructions, may cause loss of functionality, faults or
even serious damage to the Compresso CPV, and may also result in physical injury. If there is failure to follow
the instructions, the manufacturer can no longer accept any liability or claims under warranty.
