CURRENT EVENT PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS

(Calendar of presenter dates at bottom of instructions)

What's going on around the world right now? Where are Iraq, Mexico, and Pakistan? To be
an educated person, you need to know! This year you will be required to present one current
event to the class. Your current event presentation must be based on an article found in the
newspaper or news-magazine. Reputable Internet news sources, such as cnn.com and
msnbc.com, are ok. Since we are studying world history this year, your news story must be on
an event that happened outside of the U.S.

Your current event Google Slides Presentation must include the following parts:

● Original News Story: Must be recent (within a month of presentation). Should copy and paste a link
(URL) to news article/video. If from a print article, please insert picture of the article or a link to
online version.
● Summary of Article : Should be about a half page, in your own words, summarizing the main points (who
was most impacted by this event, what, when, where, why, and how).
● Analysis: Why is this event important? Why do we need to know about this?
● Country Fact Report : Should include the basics such as population, size, economy, government, major
religions, and other interesting information.
● Map of Country : Inserted a map found from a permissible, reliable source and make sure to put source
in your bibliography. Also, be sure to add extra info. such as neighboring countries, major bodies of
water, and capital to your map slide.
● Flag of Country : Make sure to put source of your image in your bibliography and be sure to add extra
info. such as when it was adopted, what the colors mean, what symbols mean, etc.
● Work Cited : See tips below or you can use a helpful site such as www.easybib.com to put these into MLA
format.
● Presentation Cards : Your notes for your speech must be written out (Example: on index cards, etc.) to
help you remember what to say. No reading from the screen allowed!

For full presentation points: Your slides must be easy to read with no spelling/grammar errors. Make sure your font
types, colors, and size are easy to be seen by an audience. Your slides should be neat, attractively laid out, and have a title
slide clearly stating the country/event with your name. Google Presentations must be shared with the teacher at least the
day before it is due and will be shown on the screen for the class (all parts still required). Practice your speech before
giving it to the class! It should be spoken clearly and last about 3-5 minutes. Be ready to take questions at the end (many
presenters also like to ask quiz questions at the end to keep the audience involved). Don't forget creativity and neatness
are always appreciated!
