Lesson Objectives
As a result of this lesson, students will be able to:

the different appearances they posses.

Teacher’s Prior Preparation/Organisation: Provision for Students:

LESSON DELIVERY Resources/References


Time
8:30am Motivation and Lesson Introduction:
1. The students enter the classroom and place their library books in the
basket located at the front of the classroom.
Number of the Week
2. The students are then required to locate their name set up on the Template

The students are to place the letters of their name in order, trace the Letter of the Week
pre-written name provided and then write their name by themselves Template
on the line provided at the bottom of the laminated sheet.
Once the students have completed this, they are able to free play in Bells
the available play centres around the classroom until the day begins.

During the above activities, the educator must walk around and praise the
students to increase their self confidence levels as well as providing support Robot eBook

Robots are a machine person meaning they are not a real human
being as they are made out of plastic and metal (mechanical)
o Robots do not have a heart or real working eyes like us, but
they can still show feelings on their face.

6. Robots can only do things like us if we charge them as they only work
and function if they have a battery.
o They come in many sizes and colours and you can create a
special Robot for yourself to play with or help you (give
examples).
Coloured Robot prompt cards will be shown.

7. Once the explanations to the students from the educator are


complete, the educator will then read the Robot eBook to the
students.
By incorporating this eBook into the lesson, it provides the students
with a starting point of how they are going to design their Robot in the
9:30am box construction activity.
“When it is your turn at the box construction table, you will create a
Robot of your very own”
Refer to eBook for examples.

8. To accompany this explanation a visual representation of a pre-made


Robot will be shown to the students and explained in terms of its
function and appearance.
o Robots can do lot’s of things like us, but that still does not
make them real as humans have to make and program them.

9. Before dismissing the students in to the respective areas, a


demonstration robot will be shown accompanied by different pictures.

Lesson Development:
9:30am
o The demonstration Robot can be placed on the table to assist the
students in designing their own.

1. The students are called up to the table top activity, two at a time in
partners (explained and chosen during the mat session), to complete Demonstration Robot
their activity.
The students are chosen based on their level of concentration within Boxes
their play scenarios.

2. Today, we are going to be making a Robot. Card
The educator can extend the students thinking by asking the question
of “What is a Robot?” and “How are you going to make your Robot?”. Scissors

3. The students are to choose a variety of boxes from the available tub PVA Glue
that will assist them in designing and creating their Robot.
The educator must ensure that the students are creating a Robot Sticky Tape
based on the eBook mentioned in the mat session.
Masking Tape
4. The students are to spend time PVA glueing, Sticky Taping their
boxes together to form the body, head and arms or legs of their Crayons
Robot.
Bottle Lids
5. Next, the educator will allow the students to colour in their chosen
boxes using the crayons or coloured card and paper to decorate the Pencil
body. Keeping in mind that the students may need guidance on
developing the appearance of their Robot.

6. Once this is complete, they are then instructed to write their name on
the back of their artwork.

7. Their work will then be displayed around the classroom or taken


home at the conclusion of the school day.

The educator may wish to use the prompts explained throughout the lesson
development. The educator can also scaffold answers and invite questioning
from all students participating in the table top activity.

Lesson Closure:
At the completion of the table top activity, the students will be assessed on
their level of understanding in terms of the following:
o Can the students identify verbally and physically of what a Robot is,
their function and the different appearances.
The closure of the lesson is completed when the students are completing the
activity as the classroom is very play based.

Assessment:
The students are observed during the table top activity through scaffolding
questioning in relation to the concept of “Robots” and the craft activity at
hand. Observations
Assessment is done in terms of the students understanding What a Robot is, Questioning
their function and the appearance.
