 1192 AD - Muhammad Ghauri’s victory against Prithvi Raj in Delhi
 1206-1526 AD – The Delhi Sultanate: The Delhi Sultanate was started by Qutbuddin Aibak, a lieutenant of
Muhammad Ghauri. Aibak started the first sultanate under the Mamluk (Slave) dynasty in Delhi. Following
is a summary of all five dynasties of the Delhi Sultanate:
o Mamluk Dynasty 1206-1290 AD - Qutbuddin Aibak, Balban, Iltumish, Razia Sultana
o Khilji Dynasty 1290-1320 AD – Alaudin Khilji
o Tughluq Dynasty 1320-1414 AD – Muhammad bin Tughluq, Firoz Tughluq

 Role of Sufism in the spread of Islam during the 13 th and 14th Centuries: The Sufis had a series of five
orders or Silsilahs of Sufism according to regions which included Chishtia, Suhrawerdi, Qadria, Junaidya
and Naqshbandia orders. Some of the most famous Sufis were, Sheikh Ismail of Lahore, Data Gunj
Bakhsh, Sheikh Shahabuddin Suhrawardy, Khuwaja Moin-ud-din Chisti, Sheikh Farid-ud-din Ganj
Shakar, Baha-u-Din Zakriya, Sheikh Nizam-ud-Din Auliya, Sheikh Salim Chishti, Sheikh Ahmed Sirhandi,
Shah Walli Ullah, etc.
