Dear Hiring Manager:

I am excited to express my interest in the Nurse Residency Program at The University of Kansas Health
System and the registered nurse positions available. I am currently earning my Bachelor of Science in
Nursing degree at the University of Saint Mary and am expected to graduate May of 2019. I have had
medical surgical clinical experience at The University of Kansas Health System on CA6 Neuroscience,
Epilepsy, and ENT floor. I absolutely fell in love with the hospital and it’s staff during my clinical time here
and knew it was the kind of hospital I could grow into a confident and knowledgeable nurse. I also got my
Spring 2019 capstone placement in the Cambridge Operating Room and I am very excited to start. The
Nurse Residency Program is one of the main reasons I am interested in starting my nursing career at The
University of Kansas Health System. This program shows tons of support for new nurses and I feel this
program will help me develop professionally and safely.

I am a first-generation college student. This is a very prideful accomplishment for me and even more so
for my family. I never imagined college being an option for me growing up but I worked really hard in
high school. I wanted to be involved and make a name for myself, so that is what I did academically and
athletically. I enjoyed school but was not sure where I wanted it to take me career wise until my great
grandma whom I was insanely close with was put into hospice care the first week of my senior year of
high school. All of the hospice nurses told me I had that “nursing instinct” because I was by her side
helping with everything I could for a week straight. From then on, I knew helping patients and their
families through their hardest times in life was what I wanted to do. Nursing school has been the best two
years of my life. I have gained so many skills, so much knowledge, and so much pride within myself. I have
also made life-long friendships.

I believe I am a strong candidate for the RN position at your hospital because The University of Kansas
Health System is where I want to grow as a nurse. I want to build my career here. This hospital has
already made a lasting impression on me from my clinical experience. I would appreciate getting to speak
to you further regarding the open position on your unit. I look forward to hearing from you.
