ISLAMIC ART
Islamic art is generally seen to be the art made by an artist whose religion is Muslim.
They adapted this imagination to arouse their inside trust in the sequence of abstract form by
constructing remarkable works of fine art. They established fresh methods significantly different
from the Byzantine and Roman skill of the period. Their art was different compared to our
modern art and culture because they accumulate information of local environment and the
society, including Arabic, Mesopotamian, African, and Persians traditions compared to our
western culture where unskilled laborers have replaced skilled artisan leading to inferior quality
products. Some of the fascinating Muslim art include the Kaaba located in Saudi Arabia, Folia
from the Quran and Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem. The main of concern about the gothic art is
how it contributes or affect the artisans and culture of the Islamic people. The art according to
my thoughts was the most prominent feature that was commonly used by churches and
cathedrals. This is because they believed that the beauty that the arts displayed was a sign of a
spiritual path to God. They honored God by building vaulted ceilings which were high into the
heaven which was believed to be dwelling place God. Many of the churches had a floor plan in
the shape of cross signifying Christ crucifixion. Glass was decorated with pictures and stained
glass panes that displayed biblical scene allowing the illiterate to learn bible visually.

From my point of view, the artisan who came before us had great philosophies and
minds. They had great ideas for ways of decorations. They incorporated features that remained
common throughout the period. They believed in God so much that they had to make the house
of worship presentable. Some of the artisan’s paintings were influenced mainly by contemporary
sculpture. Their materials were perfectly decorated. Calligraphy was practiced. Writing became
an essential factor in Islamic culture. Images and shape of plants were reflected (Ettinghausen,
650-1250). These features have made the ancient materials be preserved in modern labs and
museums to show respect to the ancient culture and artisans who came up with the ideas. In
conclusion, the Islamic art is losing some value as they lack a religious representation and art
