In this article, Berkowitz informs us on analyzing other problems in the community. He

is explaining that that there's more problems in the community other than just picking up trash.

In the article he lists several problems that's going on in the community and actually gives me

several definitions on what an actual community problem is. A community problem is a problem

that happens to frequently, a problem that has lasted a long time and nothing has been done to it,

it has affected others, and its disturbing people's personal life and its getting out of hand. In

analyzing a problem its thinking in a way of planning and thinking before you act on a situation

or problem. Berkowitz gives us ways to analyze the problem, how to actually plan before we act.

The first step we should is most importantly find the problem in the community and then identify

what needs to be done to get rid of situation. Step 2 is to identify the personal problems or

environmental problems that has contributed to the problem. Step 3 finding something to

someone who has the power to get rid of the situation or improving it. Lastly analyzing the
problem we have to go above and beyond and think outside the box. While doing my capstone I

want to analyze other major community problems and analyze them before I act upon it.

In this article Steve MIller informs me on how I can be influential in the community and

impact the community. In this article he focused on “Love” and how that can change the whole

world. In bible class I learned that giving out love is giving out God’s love which makes us

warm and feel like we aren't lonely and someone cares for us. Steve Miller states that

“Compassion is an unstable emotion and how it needs to be translated into action.” He gives me

5 ways to impact a community and help lives of others. The first one is understanding the needs

of others, basically trying to get inside there shoes to see how they feel and then identify what

needs to be done. The second way is using our talents, for example my skill can be cooking. I

can cook meals for people that are homeless I see in the community. In conclusion there’s not

just one specific thing to do to be influential in the community or just in general.

In this article the authors speaks about how to get more people to join in the movement of

helping the community. It’s stating the certain things we should do to get others to join basically

like advertising. He tells us to “work on invites” which means either stapling paper on poles,
putting it out on social media, or finding some of your friends. He focuses on targeting the media

because mostly everyone in the world has that so by putting it out others can see and build more

people to join. There’s two things in order to do for effective ways to send invites which is

building relationships and finding others who aren’t friends. The most important one is to

encourage people to talk about what they’re going to do help in the community. The members

should also invite their friends and this will help with completing multiple tasks at once with

other people. In conclusion the authors informs me on how to get more people to join and to lead

them in the freight direction to help out in the community.

Ik this article, author Jake Luhrs explain on how to be influential to others and in the

community. He states that we can’t change people and their thoughts or behaviors it’s their

decision on if they want to change or not. To influence is “the capacity to have an effect on the

character, development, or behavior of someone or something or the effect itself”. With that

being said I can lead and influence people to around another direction, a positive side in life. He

also says in his article that community is important, which it is. The people who we are in our

community shows what our community will be. “What you put it in, is what you get out”. If we

put happiness and leadership in our community eventually it’ll show and shape out the

community in a different way. In conclusion if we want to change our community and others it’s

their choice of they want to change but we can still try to turn their life around with positivity.

In this article I learn about challenges in volunteer engagement and retention. The author

explains to us the numerous weaknesses that could happen in our capstone, which can

help us so we won’t make that mistake. Number one is recruiting others to help you in

volunteering. Another challenge is keeping consistenty throughout the process because

we might do it oa couple times and take a “break” and forget about what we need to do to

better our community. In the article he says we should basically plan ahead of times of

the times we’re going to go out. Also sometimes doing a deed can happen anytime

anywhere but if planning on going to foster homes or homeless shelters you have to plan

correctly around your schedule day if work or play sports. Another challenge is some

people doing it for reward and to show everyone what they and sometimes even their first

time doing a deed and put on social media. Doing a few can literally happen anytime but,

when we do these things we should do it out of the kindness of our hearts and to see the

others be happy. In conclusion there are many challengers that could be face in helping

around the community and we have to work in our weakness to get better as individuals

and to succeed in our capstone.
