1. The effectiveness of NDT application depends upon the capabilities of personnel who
are responsible for and perform NDT. ASNT has brought out the recommended
practice and also the standard that establishes minimum requirements for qualification
& certification. SNT-TC-1A & CP-189 respectively are

2. ASNT has first published the recommended practice SNT-TC-1A in the year 1966 and
2006 has seen the 12th edition. The main purpose of the document is to provide

qualification and certification based on this . SNT-TC-1a could be used with flexibility
and reason. Somewhere in the course of time, industries have started looking for rigid
uniformity and ASNT has published CP-189 in 1991. ASNT has the developer of this
standard and however it has to adhere to the criteria and other requirements laid by
