NOTES:
1. Pressures listed are approximate. BOP supplier to confirm.
2. The HP and LP steam is pressure reduced and attemperated before introduction into the condenser.
3. The attemperation water supply for the HP and LP is from the condensate pump discharge.
4. The HP bypass valve opens fully with full HP steam flow during the hot start full bypass case 6.
Thus the HP bypass valve inlet pressure for these cases are estimated and the HP bypass inlet
pressure is a function of final selected valve size. The HP PCV Discharge pressure must not
exceed the value listed for this case.
5. The capacity ratio equals the flow coefficient (Cv) of the valve in the full open position
divided by the flow coefficient calculated at the specified operating conditions.
6. The HP and LP attemperating spray water valves shall be designed to have capacities
between 111% and 143% of the required capacity at maximum flow case conditions.
13. Steam blow case is sizing the temporary trims and maybe also the body of the valve (PCV and TCV). Take 10% margin on the Cv obtained for this case.

1.6 Operational Overview
The steam turbine high pressure bypass is a direct bypass to condenser. The system is capable of bypassing the maximum steam flow
produced by the HRSG. The high pressure steam will bypass the high pressure turbine and be pressure reduced and
attemperated to about 2650 kj/kg enthalpy target and dumped to the condenser.
The low pressure steam is bypassed to the condenser via the low pressure bypass valves. Attemperation requirements are documented in section §1.5
HP Bypass
There is one high pressure steam bypass per HRSG. Each HP bypass valve is sized to pass all steam produced
at a pressure equal to the normal operating pressure with 4 gas turbines at base load. If one HRSG is operating, a load rejection or trip
may cause the high pressure steam pressure to rapidly rise until the pressure is reached corresponding to full flow passing
capability of the HP bypass valve.
For example, consider operation with 2 gas turbine operating at base load. The steam turbine throttle pressure will be
approximately 55% of maximum pressure. Upon a load rejection or trip, the high pressure steam pressure will rapidly rise from
55% to almost 90% of rated pressure.
For example, consider a typical 409E Plant under hot start conditions. The GT has been started and loaded to Base Low Flow. The HP
steam is pressure reduced, attemperated and bypassed to the condenser.
Once conditions are acceptable for loading the steam turbine, the main control valve is opened. As steam flows into the steam
turbine, the HP pressure is reduced and controlled to 40% of maximum normal pressure.

Cold Starts:
The cold start process is the same as the hot and warm start process. The differences is gas turbine load.
At St start-up approximately 10% of the combined maximum normal HP steam of all HRSGs is supplied to the steam turbine. The rest of the steam is
dumped to the condenser.
For example, consider a typical 409E Plant under cold start conditions. One GT has been started, synchronized
and loaded to obtain 700 F (371°C) exhaust temperature. The HP steam is pressure reduced, attemperated
and bypassed to the condenser.
LP Steam Bypass
There is one LP steam bypass valve per HRSG. The bypass valves are sized to control the LP steam pressure to the value that existed at the time
of steam turbine trip or load rejection when all HRSGs feeding the steam turbine are in operation.
