Education is no guarantee of decency, Par. 4/ What are we when we are educated but not human

against the standards of decency and the time, we forget the values of decency, prudence and
human survival. wisdom. We forget to be compassionate and think of
others. We trample on other’s rights and dreams just to
reach the top. It is unbecoming of us, educated ones, to
trade education with humanity. Rather, we should
nourish them together to build a better world. To survive.
Together.
It makes far better sense to reshape Par. 8/ Scarcity happens because we only have limited resources

things. But the means just don’t suffice. Will the Earth be
the one to adjust for us? Definitely NOT. I believe in the
Filipino saying, “matutong mamaluktot sa maliit na
kumot.” It just means that we have to be the ones to
adjust according to what is, and will be ours. We cannot
own everything in this world especially that we have to
leave some for others, and our mother nature as well. If
we only learn to give and share, the world will be a better
and more harmonious place to live. We can never say
that everyone can get equal shares, but at least everyone
can have some of something rather than really none.

struggling in poverty. Them dominating in number, but
us, dominating in power. They have been left with little
benefits to enjoy and more rocks to stumble upon. They
have been the majority of victims - of violence, of
injustice, of an actually ruined economy. They have been
desperate to lift up themselves – to feel relief and
prosperity. And yet here we are. We have long turned our
backs from them, from reality. How did we become
hypocritically educated? Especially those on the topmost
of this pyramid. The powerful who promised us equality
and affluence. Will we just hope for the better? Or work
for the better? I prefer the latter.
Your feelings, reaction, or response to the text, as a whole

Becoming educated doesn’t equate to becoming the “better person” in this life. There are people, intelligent and
knowledgeable enough, but lack in being a good member of the society. As they became thirsty for power and
wealth, they became monsters of greed and exclusivity, leaving the masses to experience poverty and grieve for
their invalidated struggles.

The education we had was confined in the four walls of our classrooms. Maybe we had ideas on how to uplift
humanity, but how do we make them a reality? How do we immerse ourselves into reality when we ourselves
don’t understand enough the roots of all these controversies? Did we really exert enough effort to know what’s
happening in our society? Did we really try to open our eyes, to see the importance of everything and everyone
around us? Did we really try to be inclusive, to holistically develop our society?

Maybe we knew about all these, as we were taught about contemporary issues concerning humanity and the
environment. Maybe we just didn’t know where to start. Or maybe, we just weren’t given enough chances to take
action. There may also be something or someone stopping us. And this someone can also be our own selves. If
that’s the case, then what are all these learnings for?

What is education for?
