Personal connectivity cycle


This video is an inspirited presentation of Judy Estrin, who is currently taking the position as the
CEO of JLABS, about the personal cycle.

To be more specific, the cycle of connecting people is the idea of how people being able to connect
to each other and connect to information sources anytime and anywhere. The presenter implied the
mean of it was true mobility and ubiquitous, high bandwidth connectivity. From a CEO
perspective, Judy explains that in reality; although many enterprises care about the IT
infrastructure, consumer devices and services are always the first concerns above all. She also
mentioned some related issues like business models, affordable broadband to the home and
marking technology easier to use. Lastly, the message that she wants to deliver to entrepreneurship
is that consumer market is not an easy market for a start-up to make business and to innovate in.

First of all, connecting people is a significant feature that must be considered carefully. In the
video, Judy said, nowadays, everyone cares about connectivity so much that it will become trouble
if people unable to keep seamless connectivity as they move around. She takes an example of home
networking and stressed that what makes it interesting are not only in the technological aspect, but
it is also because its economic and behavioral efficiency.

Moreover, Judy pointed out where people are going to acknowledge how to use the money to
utilize the technological benefits. The common mistake that an inexperienced enterprise may
struggle with is selling new technologies with high price while building up the infrastructure. Only
after receiving a premium do they drop the price to drive ubiquity. In contrast, Judy suggests
companies should first care about ubiquity that how to lower the price to attract more customers
and then care about the revenue later.

Another idea is that the entertainment industry must search and apply new and adaptable business
model with services and value. On the other hand, the technology industry plays a significant role
is searching for an alternative way to protect the content of entertainment while the industry is
changing its business models. Besides, it is essential to remind that the new technological model
must be applied at a rational level to coordinate with customer needs.
All in all, it is important to remember that the consumer market is hard to start-up for the
entrepreneurship. Brainstorming and creating a new idea that pursuit company goal is not an easy
way as it requires start-up invest a lot of time and money in it. However, it is no doubt that push
off innovation is going to push off the cycles to develop more.
