Q1) what is the nature of the curriculum in General Science?

The curriculum for general science is based on three curriculums:

The Inquiry-based Curriculum

The Student-centered Curriculum

An Outcomes-focus Curriculum

The curriculum support students at all grade to develop up a critical sense for marvel and
interest about scientific and technological undertakings. Engaging with students in critical
thinking, problem solving and decision-making circumstances and context that give importance
and significance to the science curriculum. promoting the utilization of learning materials - print
and non-print the resources and reading material created in a fascinating and interactive style,
research facility hardware, internet and computer, which will provide a substantial part of the
student’s experience. Exhibit the character of science to be available to inquiry and discussion,
and free of opinion; promote student knowledge of how we came to recognize what we know
and how we test and change our reasoning; Incorporate assessment approaches that are lined
up with the science showing guidelines and associate with the intended learning areas, for
example, learning strands, content standards, benchmarks and student learning results.

Q2) Does the curriculum, in your perspective, fulfils the needs of the student
and things they need to learn?
As stated in the document (National curriculum for General science): It the job of the teachers
to process students routine and/or annual assessment information in order to analyze and
report student learning in science in relation with the SLOs and benchmarks in order to get the
required feedbacks of how effective is the school’s science programme, with regards to the
defined curriculum. According to this method the student learning is information based and
recalling rather than critical thinking which goes against the goals of the curriculum stated in
the document “Encourage students at all grade levels to develop a critical sense for wonder and
curiosity about scientific and technological endeavors”. So according to my perspective this
curriculum not fulfills the needs of the student as they know the content but they are not able
to analyze it.

Q3) What are some of the good points that this curriculum offers?

 Involvement of science with regards to day to day activities performed in everyday life.
 Urging student body to utilize the scientific methods and its knowledge for certain
needs.
 Ensuring the future of scientific community by nurturing students’ talent in science and
technology.
 Enabling the students to make decision on the basis of their knowledge and skills and
also enlightening their minds with full of useful ideas.
 Teachers role as a guider or a facilitator not a director whereas student role as a
problem solver not a direction follower.

Q4) what are the loopholes of this curriculum?

The curriculum which is currently using in schools and colleges is outdated, and does not carter
the local needs of the Pakistani society, but is somewhat imposing a particular brand of
nationalism. Our current generation is learning the same repeated outdated knowledge that
the preceding two have learnt. Other than this one-sided history, false references, half-truths
and a biased approach has been used. The equipment required for the general sciences
subjects are not available to everyone and the one that are being used are outdated and not up
to the international standards. As we know students in Pakistan only memorize the same
lessons over and over. But however, they are unaware of the crux behind it. They need to have
a proper understanding in order to attain a higher level.

Q5) How would you make this curriculum better? What steps can and must be
necessary?

 Revise curriculum after every certain period

 Focus on critical thinking rather than just recalling information
 Religion biased content should not be taught
 Lack of teaching material is a major issue and should be looked upon
 Multiple curriculums are taught which leads to different mindsets and. A single
curriculum should be taught in every educational institution (Private/Government
schools, Army schools, Madrasas)
