Electribe2 Pattern Editor version 026

The Electribe2 Pattern Editor can be used to bring patches (parts) and sequences of various
Electribe2 patterns together in new patterns. Editing of sequences is also possible. You can
use your Electribe2 now for turning the dials. A Launchpad (original, S or mini) can be used
to edit the sequence.

Version 026: MIDI support Electribe dials

MIDI support Launchpad for sequencer
View selector: Parameters, Sequence or Wide
Open- and Save Dialogs
Layout changes
Bugfixes

Version 018: Number display for Gate Time and Velocity edit

Version 016: Added a Windows stand alone version for MAX 6 (runtime)

Version 015: Added editor for sequences

Added grid for 8 drum parts

Version 012: Added editing of the Part Parameters.

Version 011: Added editing of the Global Parameters.

Version 010: First release. Loading and saving of .E2PAT files works, loading and saving of
parts and sequences is also possible. This is the minimum functionality to let this editor work
as a librarian.

Next step:
- MIDI IO to Electribe2

The working is simple. First you have to drop an .E2PAT file (exported form the electribe2).
You can select a current part by clicking on it’s name. Then it is possible to save the current
part and sequence or a combination of them to disc. This way you can create a library of
patches (parts) and sequences.

To create a new pattern you have to load a basic .E2PAT file. Select a current part and drop
parts and sequences from you library. Then you save the new .E2PAT file and import is into
you Electribe2.

Of course the Electribe2 Pattern Editor is freeware. All sources are included.

Please feel free to comment on this and make suggestions for improvement.

IO Section
The IO section is on the left. You can drop a pattern and save it after editing. When using the
‘Save Pattern’ button the edited pattern will be saved to the same folder it was loaded from,
but with a version number in the filename. The little SD icons open Load- and Save Dialogs.
When saving this way you can erase existing files with the same name.

You can save parts , sequences and combinations of them in the same folder too. This permits
you to create a library of your parts and sequences for later use.

When you drop a part or a sequence in the lower part of the IO section it is placed in the part
that is currentle selected.

Global parameters
This has the same global parameters ar the electribe2.

Open MIDI Control

This is for the standalone version only. In MaxForLive Ableton’s MIDI IO is used.

This control lets you select the MIDI ports of your Electribe2 (channel 16) and Launchpad.

Part Parameters
Here you find the parameters that are available for all parts, including the dials of the
Electribe2. With your Electribe2 connected by MIDI the dials on channel 16 control the dials
of the editor. The layout on the editor is almost identical. With a Launchpad connected the 5th
button on the right works as a shift key. When it’s pressed following shifted funtions are
available:
On Electribe 2 On editor
Pitch / Glide Glide
Cutoff Swing
Depth, Attack and Decay BPM

Part selector
Here’s a list of all parts in the pattern the be used to select your current part for the Part
Parameters and the Sequence. Launchkey’s shift with the upper 16 buttons in the matrix also
selects the corresponding part. Unfortunately Electribe2 has no MIDI out for part selection.

Underneath are tabs to select one of three screen layouts. Parameters show the parameter-
sections, but the sequence is hidden. Sequence shows the sequencer-section, hiding the
parameters. Wide shows all parts on a HD-screen.

The sequence
The sequence can be edited using a mouse or your Launchkey. When using the mouse you
can click in the piano roll or the drum-grid to change a note. Per step a maximum of 4 notes is
allowed.

You can scroll the upper part using the arrow-buttons. On the Launchpad the light green
buttons on the right are used for this. When pressed with shift the faster red arrows are
clicked.

2
On top are 8 tabs to select a part of the sequence. That part is selected for the Launchpad also.
With the round top-buttons of the Launchpad you can also select your current selection.

On the right side are some tabs too. These are used to select the note-grid or the drum-grid.
On the Launchpad the upper 3 notes on the right are used to select the upper, middle of lower
part of the note grid. By pressing the third button with shift the drum-grid is selected.

Using the sliders you can edit velocity and gate time. On the Launchpad the red buttons on the
lower right side are used to edit velocity and gate time. You need to press and hold them and
press a button in the 8x8 matrix. This only gives 8 values. When you press and hold a matrix
key and turn Pitch / Glide on the Electribe 2 Velocity is edited very precise. The edit dial is
used to edit gate time.

Clicking the ‘Clear’ button and then clicking ‘Enter’ to confirm will clear the current part.
When the drum grid is active all drum parts are cleared.

You can copy sections. If the drum grid is selected all drums are copied, otherwise notes of
the current part are copied. By selecting the current section again it is set as ‘From part’ for
copying. Then you can select an other section for the ‘To part’. To perform the copy you can
click the ‘Paste’ button and confirm with ‘Enter’. On the Launchpad the same can be achieved
bij pressing one of the upper two right buttons together with the shift button.

But on the Launchpad there is a more convenient way. If you press the selected section with
shift a clear action is performed. If you press another section with shift the selected section is
copied there.
