Lesson Plan in English 8

I. Objectives
Towards the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. give insights about the culture of Israel;
b. supply proper synonyms of words along the extracted lines from the story,
‘The Story of Ruth’
c. create predictions about what to expect in the short story;
d. supply the elements of the story using a graphic organizer; and
e. apply the previous lesson by writing a letter to future-in-laws.

II. Subject Matter


A. Topic: The Story of Ruth

C. Materials: PPT, video clip


D. Time Frame: 60 minutes

III. Methodology
A. Activity 1
 The class will start with an opening prayer and checking of attendance.
 The students will be shown with some photos of the country Israel and the
people living in it.
B. Analysis 1
 The students will be asked with the following questions:
 What can you say about the sights of places and people in Insrael?
 Would you like to visit this place? Why?
 What do you know about Israel?
C. Activity 2
 The students will be shown again with the photo of a mother-in-law with
her daughter-in-law.
D. Analysis 2
 The students will be asked as to what does the picture say? What is an
in-law? How does someone you know treat their in-laws?
E. Analysis 3
 The students are going to supply synonyms on the underlined words in each
sentence.
F. Abstraction
With the activity given by the teacher, the teacher now delivers the
objective for the day and the lesson for the day.
G. Application
Directions: Using an element web graphic organizer, supply the elements needed
for the story.
- Who are the important characters of the story?
- What is the setting of the story?
- What is the problem of the story?
- What is the solution to the problem?
- Who is your favorite character? Why?
- What is the plot of the story?
- What is the theme of the story?
- What is another way that the problem could be solved?

IV. Evaluation
Directions: On a 1/2 sheet of paper, explain the lines, “Don’t urge me to leave
you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay.
Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there
I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely,if even death
separates you and me.”

V. Assignment
Directions: On a 1 whole sheet of paper, make a letter to your future-in-law.
Observe proper elements in writing the letter.
Be guided by the following:
- Content - 40 %
- Correctness of structure - 30 %
- Grammar & Spelling - 30 %
