Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Once you have run the “property analysis” Go to the simulation Environment.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

You can choose in

this Tab the
subrutine you need
to evaluate.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

In this tutorial, we are going to

select a Flash2 to model a flash
distillation system
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

In this tutorial, we are going to select a

Flash2 to model a flash distillation
system. Click-on the image to select the
subrutine and then click-on the White
screen to insert the image.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Click-on the image and the press

Red rows means that you have to add

this stream. Blue rows means that you
can add an extra stream if you want
Click-on material to create a
mass or energy stream.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Put the “cursor” on the red row to

add the material stream.

You can rename the stream name

if you select the stream and press
CRTL-M
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Once you have drawn

your flowsheet to add the
stream information.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

In this section you can

choose among
Temperature, pressure
or vapor fraction of the
feed stream
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

In this section you have

to enter the stream
information
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

In this section you have to

enter the stream
composition. Take care
with the variable that you
select. You should select
mole fraction or mass
fraction
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Once you have entered all

the stream information.
Click-on next to add the
block information.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

In this section you can select

among the Block variables, for a
flash distillator, the variables are:
Temperature, Pressure, Duty,
and vapor fraction.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Once you have entered all the

information, click-on NEXT to run
the simulation.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

This message will appear, if

the simulation is ok.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

You can verify your results,

by clicking-on Streams in the
RESULTS SUMMARY TAB.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

The Sensitive Analysis allows to answer the question

WHAT IF…?. In this tutorial we want to answer What
happen with the ethanol composition in the vapor
phase, if we change the flash drum temperature?

To perform the sensitive analysis, you have to guarantee

that there are not any warming, error or severe error in the
simulation.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Click-on Sensitivity in the Model Analysis Tool

to enter in Sensitive Analysis screen.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Click-on NEW to create a Sensitive Analysis.

Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Click-on Vary to define your independent variable. For our example, it must be the drum
temperature. You can only choose an independent variable that you have previously
defined in your simulation. You can choose among a BLOCK-VAR (i.e., variables related
with the subrutine), a STREAM-VAR (i.e., variables related with the stream), MASS-
FLOW, MOLE-FLOW, MOLE-FRAC, MASS-FRAC (i.e., variables related for an specific
component in terms of flow or composition)
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Click-on NEW to create a new INDEPENDENT VARIABLE.

Creating a Sensitive Analysis

1. Click-on TYPE to select the kind of

variable. In this case we want to
evaluate the effect of the drum
temperature over the composition in the
vapor phase. For that reason you must
choose BLOCK-VAR

2. Click-on BLOCK to select the block

that you want to evaluate.

3. Click-on VARIABLE to select the

variable that you want to evaluate.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

In this section you must select

the evaluation RANGE
(From… °C until …°C). Also
you must select the
“increment”
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Once you have defined the INDEPENDENT VARIABLE in the VARY TAB, you can define
the DEPENDENT VARIABLE in the DEFINE TAB.

In our example, the DEPENDENT VARIABLE must be the composition of ethanol in the
vapor phase.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Click-on one of the following options to select the kind of

variable you want to predict. In this case, we want to
predict the ethanol composition in the vapor phase, for that
reason is a STREAM VARIABLE.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Click-on TYPE to select the kind of “sub-variable” you

want to predict. In this case, you must select Mole-Frac,
because you have to predict the ethanol composition in
the vapor phase.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

In this section, you have to select the stream and the

component that you want to evaluate.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

Once you have defined the DEPENDENT VARIABLE in

the DEFINE TAB, click-on TABULATE. In this TAB you
must write the variable name that you have previously
defined in the DEFINE TAB.
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

To check the SENSITIVE ANALYSIS,

you should go to the RESULTS TAB
Creating a Sensitive Analysis

In you want to PLOT your results,

click-on RESULTS CURVE.
