4.0 ROUTE SURVEY

CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS

All works to be performed by qualified surveyor. A preliminary survey for

locating the centerlines of pipe line alignment on the ground shall be
carried out as follows.

a) surveyor shall make a preliminary survey along the route of the

proposed pipeline to establish and flag control points.
b) surveyor shall locate and identify the existing features or obstructions
along the route that are shown in avail. Maps and drawings.
c) JPL should verify the class requirements of gas pipe line JPL should
consult GSPL / PMC wherever there is chainage of route or chainage
ofTP'S.

Prior to the possession of land, an access to Site Protocol will be agreed with
GSPL. The entire pipeline route will be established with reference to the
route maps and alignment sheets approved by Company. The Pipeline route
survey will be carried out by means of calibrated survey equipments like
total station thredolite, dumpy level and ranging rods etc... Benchmarks,
inspection points and other required markers would be installed. (JPL)
Surveyors will carry out all survey works.

STAKING OF PIPELINE ROUTE:

JPL will ensure that the pipe line defining trench centre line shall be staked
by placing suitable painted marker stakes at TP's and IP's between
consecutive TP'S.
The pipeline centre line shall be staked on the ground, the TP's shall be
staked on the ground, After locating the marking the TP's the intermediate
points shall be staked at the intervals of 500mtr. Along the Trench centre
line of pipe line.
The inter section points and TP's shall be serially numbered from the
starting point.
BENCH MARKS
Permanent bench marks approximately every 1 kms or permanent
structures on or off the Right of use shall be established and described.
Additional bench marks shall be established near the major pipeline
crossing sites.
The normal width of the ROU will be 20 m. On certain locations, the width
may be restricted due to imposed site conditions. The regular restricted
working width shall be defined on approved alignment sheets, normally it
will be 5 mtr. JPL will ensure that the width of the working strip will be
visible at all times. Surveyor will locate, identify and notify the existing
features or obstructions along the route that are not shown in current
alignment sheets, maps and drawings. If the existing alignment cannot be

followed due to obstacles or other issues, a better route may be suggested

and a request for change made to the Company. In exceptional cases if
boundary markers or marked points are removed during construction they
will be re-instated after construction in consultation with GSPL.

JPL will ensure that the working width shall be kept clean during the
construction period.

In cases of change in direction or side bends one stake shall be installed at

the center of the bend and 100 m on both sides along the route of pipeline
on the center line shall be installed by yellow paint marks.
• The horizontal angle of deflection will be measured by placing the total
station / thredolite over the turning point.
• The total station / thredolite will be placed over the intersection point
(IP) and the horizontal scale shall be set as '0', viewing either side of the
IP. Then the horizontal scale will be turned to view the other IP. The
horizontal angle is measurement between the two points.
• JPL will use Client approved benchmarks along the route.
• Permanent bench marks (BM) approximately every 5 km or permanent
structures on or off the Right Of Way (ROW) shall be established and
described by the surveyor.
JPL will ensure that site investigations will be made to locate and mark all
existing third party lines, other utilities, monuments, archeological site,
graves etc. in the area affected by the works
During the survey, special care shall be taken for crossings,
a. General : All possible efforts shall be made to ensure that crossings are
made at right angles. The surveyor will record the angles of crossing for all
fences, property lines, utilities, roads, railways, canals, streams etc. that
are crossed. True bearings of the centerline of road, railway, canal, as well
as that of pipeline center will be recorded. Turning points near crossings
will be at least 3m from crossing boundaries in stable and firm ground.

~b. Longitudinal Profile: Before excavating the arable soil longitudinal profile
of the ground shall be taken and recorded.
c. Railway Crossing : The angles for all railway crossings will be close to
90°. The minimum permissible angle will be 85° between the center line of
railway track and pipeline.
d. Primary Road Crossing: National and State Highways, all whether roads
and roads providing access to major installations will be designated as
primary roads. The angle of crossing will be close to 90°. The minimum
permissible angle will be 80° between the center line of road and pipeline.
e. Secondary Road Crossing: All seasonal roads, unpaved village roads,
cart-tracks, etc. will be designated as secondary roads. The angle of
crossing will be as close to 90° as possible. The minimum permissible angle
will be 45° between the center line of road and pipeline.
f. River / Stream / Nala Crossing: These crossings shall be established as
close as possible to the location shown in the maps / alignment sheets.
Crossings will be located in a comparatively straight reach of the river
where the banks are stable and there is sufficient area for construction. The
angle is required to be as close to 90° as possible.
g. Canals / Drainage ditch: The angle is required to be as close to 90° as
possible. The minimum permissible angle will be 60° between the center
line of canal / drainage ditch and pipeline. Location of crossing will be
selected such that evidence of slumping or erosion of banks, beds is not
there,

h. Utility Crossing: Utilities crossed will be located at their centerline with

stakes containing station numbers. The angle of crossings will be measured
and location established relative to above ground facilities. The names and
sizes of all utility lines will be included in the survey notes. In the cases of
overhead power and telephone lines, the distance to the poles and towers
on each side of the survey line will be measured, and the numbers of poles
or towers will be noted. In case of over head of power/ telephone cables,

the distance in the poles &tower son each side of survey lines should be
measured. Survey line shall be established so that a minimum distance of
50mtr from survey line to nearest high tension pole or tower is maintained,
i. Existing Pipelines: Topographical survey of existing pipelines in
consultation with Client shall be carried out by JPL and data containing co
ordinates shall be supplied. Any marker of the existing pipeline will be
surveyed and copy of Drg. will be handed over to GSPL/PMC/TPIA. In case
certain marker post removed temporarily the same shall be put back with
the help of above drawings.
5.0 CHAINAGE
- Linear detail survey, sub meter accuracy (less then 1M in 1 Km) is
required by using length precision thredolite / Total stations.
- Poupulation Density survey &location class along the pipeline route will
be carried out as per specification GTS/7/0034 Chapter IV. A zone of
400m width is to be considered along the pipeline route with proposed
pipeline in the centre of the zone.
- Approval master plan for the area along the foreign route of pipeline will
be submitted prior to the work for route survey.
- Horizontal angle will be measured clockwise from the back station to
front station. All routes & observations related to the basis for
determination of the boundaries lines / corners will be mentioned during
the survey.
- Stack distance will be measured using 50 m steel tape or 30m chain. In
case of abrupt slope the tape will be straightened parallel to the
probable grading.
- Distance between Intersection Points staked along the pipeline route will
be measured and recorded. Distance between level points shall also be
measured and recorded.
- Chainage will be continuous in direction of survey
- True bearing of all straights shall be observed and recorded.

- Data on nature of terrain, viz. sandy, stony, vegetation, etc. and type of
ground will be recorded along with chainages of change points.

7.0 HEALTH , SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT

1. It is to be noted that the special care to be adopted against snake /
insects bite.
2. PPE's shall be used in this activity.
3 All Measuring &Test Equipment used shall be well maintained.
4. Care shall be taken for carrying ranging rods where over head power
lines or telephone lines are existing.
