Abstract
In the wastewater laboratory practice, residual water samples are characterized in order to know and perform
the main tests that are carried out on wastewater, and to learn to assess the degree of contamination of the
wastewater sample, in the same way determine if the water treated in the laboratory is domestic or industrial
waste.
For residual water studies, 2 prototypes of the same water were taken and different parameters were performed,
such as: pH, temperature, color, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand,
total suspended solids, and sedimentary solids.
For the decade parameter measurements, two water samples were taken and their respective laboratory
equipment was used, for the pH measurements the pH meter was used, and in the same way with the same
equipment the temperature was taken, the color with the laboratory equipment , colorimeter, dissolved oxygen
with it oxymeter, biological oxygen demand was taken by the oxitod method in the winkler bottles, for the
chemical oxygen demand with the thermo-rector with 3 samples for 2 hours and two of those samples was
Composed with potassium dichromate and silver sulfate, for residual water samples and a last blank sample
with distilled water, suspended total solids, the residual water sample was filtered with a filter paper and the
suspended solids were left in the filter paper, The settling solids were used IMHOFF cones and after a while
the settleable solids went to the bottom of the bonds and their respective samples were taken, and their s
respective calculations to know how contaminated was the water used for studies in the laboratory and to
conclude if the water is suitable for human consumption.
Key words: Ph, Temperature, Color, Dissolved oxygen, BOD, COD, Total suspended solids, Total sediment
solids, Ph-meter, Oxi-meter, Oxitop, Winkler, Thermo-reactor, IMHOFF cones, Potassium dichromate, Silver
