• identify and apply a variety of graphic design concepts utilizing Adobe Photoshop and After Effects

Assignment Objective: Students will create both a static and motion animated Lower Thirds TV graphic for high definition television based on the lessons, tools and techniques taught in class. Students will create a graphic based on an inspirational figure in their life. Students will go through the following stages
to produce their graphic: research, concept sketches, design development, and motion animation.

Stage 1: Research
Detailed explanation for choosing inspirational person - what positivity are they contributing to a community?
Includes researched images and designs as inspiration for students original design

Stage 2: Concept Sketches


Sketch on paper two rough outlines of your lower thirds graphic design using simple shapes and text
Follow safe title and action overlays
Use the icons provided by teacher to create your sketch

Stage 3: Graphic Development - Design Principles and Elements

Graphic demonstrates proper use of the following:


Design Elements: Shapes, Images and Text
Design Principles: Hierarchy; Placement/Alignment; Scale; Typography; Colour; Unity/Patterns/Repetition
Alignment and position of graphic elements are organized to lead the eye
All graphic elements work well together as an engaging design

Stage 3: Graphic Development - Images

Downloaded images are high quality (minimum of 1920 x 1080 pixels)


No distortion or stretching of downloaded images
Downloaded images must not include any graphic elements (ie: shapes, text, or logos)

Typography must complement the graphic elements and the chosen inspirational person

Font styles are clearly legible and complement all graphic elements
Font size is clearly legible and complements all graphic elements

Colour scheme must complement the graphic elements and the chosen inspirational person
Colour scheme demonstrates knowledge of contrast and shades

All layers must be given a name that identifies the layer content appropriately
Only relevant layers are to be included in final Photoshop document
