Final Requirement for UTS


In lieu of your Final Examination

Case Study/ Critical Evaluation and Digest

Objective: To examine the student’s comprehension, analytic and applicative skills, and level of
evaluation through their ability to digest and evaluate a case.

Description: This final requirement consists of two (2) components: a case digest and an evaluation
essay concerning the case itself. Students are tasked to make a simple case digest of a
chosen topic below which consists of stating the facts, the issue being questioned, and
the resolution/s granted by the court. One has to evaluate the case using the lessons on
depending on which among the dimensions of the self the chosen case is categorized
(physical, sexual, material, spiritual, political, and virtual), or a methodology may also
be used for evaluation. The evaluation would also reveal preference and constructive
criticisms of the student concerning the case.

Instruction:
 Choose among the given topic categorized on a dimension of the self below. Analyze and
read the case meticulously, understand what the issue of the case is and how it was
resolved. You may also research on the context of the case, and the opinions given, as
you would evaluate it.

 Use the format of the case digest provided in this document. The format includes the
statement of the facts, the issue, and the resolution/s of the case given.

 You may use Filipino or English as medium for the case digest and evaluation. Use an
8.5x13 sized paper. The final output is to be printed back-to-back: the front page
consisting of the case digest, and the back page consisting of the evaluation. You are
strictly required to submit only a single page for this.

o Case Digest Components:


 Facts: Summary of the case and the events that had happened in the case, in bullet form.
Should only be consisting of 3-5 bullets.
 Issue: Statement of the issue or problem being addressed in the case. Preferably, in
interrogative form. 1-2 sentences only.
 Resolution/s: Statement of the resolution/s made by the court, including the reasons
behind, the laws and rights which supports the resolution/s. If the case has not yet been
resolved, draw possible resolution/s and defend your claim with supporting arguments,
laws, and human rights. Must not exceed 3 paragraphs.

o Evaluation: Create an essay that concerns how you understand the case, and how
you would evaluate the case using lessons depending on what dimension of the self
it was categorized. Provide at least three (3) lessons you have learned in the
dimension of the self (physical, sexual, material, spiritual, political, or virtual) or
methodologies of understanding the self (anthropology, economics, gender studies,
humanities, philosophy, political science, post-colonial studies, psychology,
religious studies, or sociology), and how can these three lessons be applied to the
case you have chosen to examine. The Evaluation should also address the guide
question given on the topic. Create your own title for the evaluation, and indicate
your signature, name, course-year-block, and student number at the end of the
paper.

 Deadline of submission is on 28 March 2019, Thursday. Failure to submit on the stated


schedule would result to a grieve deduction of -20 on the score given. Failure to submit
at all before the semester ends would automatically result to an INC grade in the final
grading.
