Transmission Diagnostic Trouble Codes-Limp Home Mode and Inchless Power Shift
IMPORTANT:

Each lever or pedal MUST be moved through its full calibration travel during calibration, or a diagnostic trouble
code will occur during normal operation.

NOTE:

Transmission controller diagnostic trouble codes will display when malfunction occurs.

When a malfunction occurs, the transmission will go into neutral in most cases. The exceptions are listed
below.

When diagnostic trouble code appears, shut engine off and restart engine to check if diagnostic trouble
code is an intermittent problem. Recall and record all diagnostic trouble codes from monitor. Investigate
circuit malfunction identified by diagnostic trouble code.

There are three types of diagnostic trouble codes:

 Start up/One time diagnostic trouble codes will be displayed only once when grader is either started or when there is a
malfunction during grader operation.
 On Occurrence and Reset diagnostic trouble codes will be displayed when a malfunction occurs. If display button is
pushed diagnostic trouble code will go off. Once the display button has been pushed through all functions the
diagnostic trouble code will be displayed if malfunction is still active.
 Store Only diagnostic trouble codes are stored in memory. (See Historical Diagnostic Trouble Code Retrieval in Group
25 of this Section.)

Solenoid Limp Home Mode

The transmission is equipped with a Solenoid Limp Home Mode. This Solenoid Limp Home Mode is directly related to
Diagnostic Trouble Codes F301 through F308. If an open circuit to the clutch solenoids of an engaged gear is detected, the
transmission controller will immediately shift to neutral and display a diagnostic trouble code F301 through F308. After this,
only one gear will operate after each return to neutral. To activate Solenoid Limp Home Mode, the operator must shift to
neutral, then to a gear to engage the transmission. This can be confusing when troubleshooting, as different gears work
depending on which solenoid failed. Refer to the MACHINE OPERATION column of the Diagnostic Trouble Code Diagnostic
Procedure to determine what working gears are available with a given failed solenoid. You must shift quickly to the desired
gear. The transmission will operate only in this gear and movement of the shifter will not change from this selected gear. To
change to another gear, the operator must shift to neutral then into the next desired gear. See diagnostic trouble codes F301
through F308 in Transmission Control Circuit Diagnostic Trouble Code Diagnostic Procedures.

Shifter Limp Home Mode

(Machines S.N. -567461)

If one of the five gear selection switches or circuits to the switches in the Transmission Control and Park Brake Lever fails the
transmission goes to neutral and one or more of the following diagnostic trouble codes appear: F330, F331, F332, F333, F334
or F335. These codes may be received intermittently with no real fault and caused by operator hand pressure on shift handle
or when turning off the machine. If diagnostic trouble code(s) is constant, Shifter Limp Home Mode is available. To activate
Shifter Limp Home Mode, the operator must shift to neutral, then to a gear to engage the transmission. This can be confusing
when troubleshooting, as different gears work depending on which circuit failed. Refer to the MACHINE OPERATION column

of the Diagnostic Trouble Code Diagnostic Procedure to determine what working gears are available with a given diagnostic
trouble code displayed. Shifting the lever from gear to gear may not change transmission. Various gears will be skipped
depending on circuit malfunction. If this condition exists, go to 9015-15 Transmission Circuit Component Diagnostic
Procedure, Park/Not Neutral Gear Position Switch Module S6.

Shifter Limp Home Mode

(Machines S.N. 567462-)

If one of the five gear selection switches or circuits to the switches in the Transmission Control and Park Brake Lever fails the
transmission goes to neutral. The Shifter Limp Home Mode can be activated by shifting the lever to neutral and then to a
working gear. This condition is observed when the Transmission Control and Park Brake Lever position does not match the
monitor gear display and no diagnostic trouble codes appear. NO diagnostic trouble codes are indicated with this condition. To
activate Shifter Limp Home Mode, the operator must shift to neutral, then to a gear to engage the transmission. This can be
confusing when troubleshooting, as different gears work depending on which circuit failed. Shifting the lever from gear to gear
may not change transmission. Various gears will be skipped depending on circuit malfunction. If this condition exists, go to
9015-15 Transmission Circuit Component Diagnostic Procedure, Park/Not Neutral Gear Position Switch Module S6.

Inchless Power Shift

When inching pedal potentiometer fails, as indicated by diagnostic trouble codes F317, F318 or F319, the grader can be
operated by power shifting and not using the inching pedal. If the inching pedal is depressed during this condition the
transmission will go to neutral. To reset motion, the Transmission Control and Park Brake Lever must be returned to neutral
then back into a working gear. See diagnostic trouble codes F317, F318 and F319 in Transmission Control Circuit Diagnostic
Trouble Code Diagnostic Procedures.
