Why I hate gecko

It was a beautiful day, with clear blue sky and white soft cloud like cotton candy, at least that’s what it supposes to be. But no, the thunder

roar as the sky filled with nimbus cloud, showering the ground with its hard raindrops. It was my birthday party turning the age of nine with every

outdoor activity canceled, doing nothing but staying indoor acting as a great daughter greeting the elder.

Everyone was there crowded in my house, uncle, aunt, friend and all that. But people I can remember seem to be only me, mom, grandma,

grandpa, my mom older sister with her 2 sons and a daughter. Win, the oldest son with the nickname of the computer genius, Celine, a cute and

beautiful girl who can rock every subject. By the way, she was only a month older than me. The last one Louis, a 6 and a half years old boy who

receive three words from me. Annoying. Dumb. Brat!

I can feel the pain rushing toward my arm as it was filled with heavy present box. I let out a long sigh of despair before holding some of the

present boxes to the table. I look around the house trying to find some help, but no one is to be spotted, I let out another sigh as I can tell where

they are by the loud noise from my backyard. The sun is out wiping all the rain away.

“Left me to do all the work while you are having fun”, I mumble quietly. Shaking my head and continue moving the present boxes at a

faster pace, hoping to finish before they come back from playing.

“Dang it”, I thought to myself as they open the door and came in.

“I didn’t even get to play yet!”, yelled my heart as it roared for some fun but I keep it inside and smiled.

The party continues peacefully with some activities and lunch until Louis started walking in a circle with weird faces. After many rounds

of walking, he stops in front of me with his eyes stared to the floor.

“I…..forget the present”, He said with a shaky voice.

“It’s fi…”, but before I can finish my sentences, he looked up smiling and race to the kitchen. I stood there in silence, having no clues on

what is happening. After a while of loud crashing sound from the kitchen, he walked out with his right hand holding something behind him. He

walked towards me, grabbing my wrist with his left hand and pulled me upstairs. I followed him curiously as he smiled and keep on using more

forces.

Not knowing what to do, I stood still as a rock in my bedroom waiting for him to speak up. The room was in silent for a while as he

spoke up loudly with a bright smile.

“A present for you!”, smiled as brightly as the sun, he finally showed me the thing that he was hiding the whole time. My jaws drop as I

slowly took a step back at a time, realizing again that I was sitting on the floor staring up at the white transparent creature showing all their inside

organ with no shame, slithering in his hand trying to break free. Not giving any time for me to take a breath, he holds its body with his left hand

and before I could tell him to stop, he uses his right hand to grab the neck and then, rip the head right off.

“Ah! Ah! Ah!”, I screamed like crazy non-stopping closing my eye wishing all were a dream, but I can’t escape from reality. In front of

me was a bloody disgusting head of the creature, eyeballs popping out of its socket with the mouth wide open in shock.

He keeps on walking toward me with the gecko’s head in his hand. Oh, how much I want to move from there but I can’t. I froze, unable to

move or stop him. Tears rolled down my cheeks like a rain that never stops, only getting harder and harder. My vision gets blurry as it was covered

by the massive amount of tears. It was my first time crying and screaming so loudly at the same time. Screaming from the bottom of my heart,

letting go of my emotion like the devil himself was chasing after me. Never stop and never rest, my voice ringed so much it hurt my ears. I can feel
my lungs breaking and stabbing pain. Almost like a heart attack, it was beating so fast I thought I’ll explode any moment soon, my throat gets sore

but the pain can’t stop me, the only things my body allow me to do is scream.

Screaming was the last thing I remember before fainting. It was almost the best way to escape from that situation except the fact that it

gives me a nightmare. The gecko followed me all the way to my dream replaying the moment its head got ripped off like a gif repeating over and

over again. The hundred time the moment keep on repeating, I wake up. Panting like crazy, clutching my pounding heart as the memories still

fresh. I looked around seeing my familiar stuffed doll and rows of bookshelves, I am in my bedroom.

Looking around my mom was nowhere in sight. I yelled out her name as she rushed in a few minutes later. She shot me question after

another asking me how am I, not giving me any time to answer. She got that worried look on her but it soon disappears as I told her.

“I’m fine.”

Looking around one more time.

“Where is Louis?”, I ask her. She didn’t answer me anything except walk to the door and do a hand gesture for someone to come. It was

Louis who walk in with his head down staring at the floor. Then, my mom left two of us in the room while she goes wait downstairs. In the silence,

none of us talk. He seems like he wants to say something but then, he stops returning the silence to the room once more.

“I’m sorry.”, he said so quietly I thought he was talking to himself but it is still loud enough for me to hear it. He was on a verge of tears,

his whole body shakes as he remembers how scared I was with his present.

I looked upon him like my own younger brother. As an older sister, I feel ashamed, making my younger brother feel so much emotion even

when he is still so small. I shake my head as an answer as I swing my arm open wide. No word need to be spoken, he quickly comes and cried in

my arm. He hugs me tighter as he cries louder. I just sit there hugging him in silence waiting until he will feel better.
Nothing much can break our relationship, still as a pack as ever. We both pretend as nothing happen as a day after my birthday party he

bought me a pink teddy bear. We still talk like normal, play like normal everything seem normal except the fact that I would hate gecko forever.

GAME ANALYSIS 1: Escape the Room

Describe the Game:
https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/16215228/

Escape the Room is a clicking puzzle game. Using the mouse to click and
drag object to solve puzzle to get key or a way to open the door. With the
theme of solving the puzzle to escape from each room. This game considered
of 3 levels being harder each time. When you finish the game it will give you
the time you took to play the game in seconds. I finish it in 80 seconds.

Positive for Creating a Similar Game:

● I think that this game is very fun and interesting because it take time
to think and solve the problem.
● As the level increases the game get harder causes the player to think
more and be more interesting.

Negatives for Creating a Similar Game:

● Since this is a escaping game, there is many object and rules of
clicking which can be hard.
● When making the puzzle it need to be hard or else the player will be
bored but if it is too hard the player will give up.

Is this Game Suitable for my Story and User?

This game is suitable for my story because in my story, it is similar to escaping from my cousin younger brother. I can make a
similar game to this adding a running type game too. My users would love this game because it is simple to control but use a lot of
thinking. It is very interesting because there is many level which each things are different and get harder every time.

GAME ANALYSIS 2: SPOOKY RUN

Describe the Game:

Spooky run is similar to the Rotten run and the dinosaur offline game except
in a halloween themes. You choose your avatar then, the game start. It is a
side scrolling game which the character need to jump avoiding or dodge the
witches, zombies, vampires, and while running the mission is to collect as
much candy along the way. It is based on the ideas of running collecting
candy on the halloween night while dodging the obstacle along the way such
as witches, zombies, etc.
Positive for Creating a Similar Game:
● This game has very simple instruction to play which make the player
easier to understand how the game work.
● The game is very short which can be played multiple times.
● The game is very interesting and excited which will make my users
enjoyed.

Negatives for Creating a Similar Game:

● The code in this game look very complicated and difficult. With the
time limits we have, complete the code might not be possible.
● This game is very simple which may not be able to convey all of my
story.

Is this Game Suitable for my Story and User?

This game is suitable for my story because I can add a bit of this type of running game to the previous escape type game. This
game can convey the part of the story when I run away from my cousin younger brother. My users would love this game because
it is a individual game which is interesting and fun to play. There is multiple avatar to choose which is easy and simple to control.
The game was simple with some challenges which will not bored my users.

GAME ANALYSIS 3: Gravity Dash

Describe the Game:

Gravity Dash is similar to the Flappy bird but instead of keep tapping so that
the bird won’t touches the floor, in this game when tap the avatar would be
floating up and down. Same as the Flappy Bird the avatar need to passed
through the spaced between each block. Each avatar unlocked at different
point or score earned. It is a side scrolling game which the avatar need to float
through the gap in each wall of block. Eash passes through the block earned a
point.

Positive for Creating a Similar Game:
● It is very fun and excited to play.
● There is multiple avatar skin to obtain.
● It is fun to play a race with friend to see who unlock each skin faster.
● The code does not look too difficult to create.

Negatives for Creating a Similar Game:

● The game was very simple which does not convey or match with my
story.
● It might waste a lot of time to create multiple avatar.
● It might be difficult to calculate the angle when the avatar goes up and
down the screen.

Is this Game Suitable for my Story and User?

This game is not suitable for my story because it does not go along or have any related concept with my story. The gravity theme
does not match with my narrative story because the gravity are more into the fantasy side while my story are realistic school life
story. This game is not suitable for my users because most of them wanted adventure with many story to it while this game is too
simple and does not contain any story in it.

type of game I will create.

WHAT DOES THE TECHNICAL DIRECTOR WANT? (consider quoting specific information)

The Technical Director wants a simple “individual game” that he can play alone practicing his own skills. His favorite genres of
all is active game that can bring him excitement. He like games that considered uses of skill that can be obtain by practicing
such as “sport game”. From his taste of game he is currently playing an American football mobile game called “Madden
Overdrive”. Even though he prefer a individual game he also like multiplayer game which build teamwork and practicing his
leadership to plan strategy and win the game. Type of game he disliked the most is game which can only be done in a certain way
and game with no main story to backup the game such as “shooting game”.

(paragraph starter: “The Technical Director wants _______ .”)

WHAT DOES THE USER WANT? (consider quoting specific information)

The users are fine with both however they prefer simple game over complicated game but “not too simple with challenges” so,
that they won’t get bored. They like excited and active game that is “fun to play and interesting” such as adventure, fighting and
shooting game. Some games they are currently playing is “Onmyoji, a interesting fighting type game” and “Fortnite”, an action
strategy game that bring the users great excitement with cool animation, graphic and soundtrack. Popular “shooting game like
PubG Mobile”, a fast paced multiplayer shooting game. The users wants game with multiple choices of avatar however they
prefer “a strong human avatar but simple to control” the most.

(paragraph starter: “The user wants _______ .”)

WHAT GAME TYPE IS BEST FOR MY NARRATIVE? HOW DO YOU KNOW IT IS THE BEST?

The best game type for my narrative is escaping and running because it suited with the theme of my story. The escaping type was
based on my story of when I wanted to escape from the gecko head my cousin younger brother was holding. The running type
was me running away from my cousin younger brother while he is chasing after me (with a gecko in his hand). Also I think my
users will like it because it will be very unique and different from other game because of my exciting story which is “fun to play
and interesting”.

(paragraph starter: “The best game type for my narrative is _______ because ______ .”)

DESCRIBE (in general terms) THE TYPE OF GAME YOU WILL CREATE

I will build a running game at first but when passes a certain point in the game it will turn into escape type game where the users
need to escape the room. The running part will be about me running away from my cousin younger brother while he is chasing
me up the stair. The escaping part will be me trying to escape from him because I am scared of the gecko he is holding. I want to
create this type of game because it matches my story and the users needs. It will be “fun to play and interesting” with simple and
easy character to control.

(paragraph starter: “I will build a ______ game because ______ .”)

TEST 1: Expert Appraisal

Description of Test:
● I will test my product by letting the expert or the Technical Director
played the game and let him fill out a google form for feedback. The
google form would be asking what are effective so far, their opinion
and what could be better. This test will take at least 5 minute for
playing the game and fill out the google form.

Design Specifications Involved in this Test:

● The game will be neat and colorful
● The game will be simple
● There would not be mistake and error while the game is played

Results of the Test (data):

● Expert Opinion (Technical Director)
○ The size of the human sprite could be smaller to fit better within
the game and touch the walls less frequently.

○ the revive button could be made to work.

○ the turn options look good but then you can still walk in the wrong
direction from where you're turned. maybe it's possible to make it
only walk in the direction the human is facing.

● What is effective so far? (Technical Director)

○ The game is clearly there. It is playable and challenging. the game
tells the story of someone lost and trying to find items so they can
move out of a large, scary gray space.

○ The game is simple to play and includes a revive menu which

might be linked to the story. the obstacles are clearly defined.

○ Great work on the overall gameplay. I like how the character

moves around the screen and how the map works, too.

Describe and Explain the CHANGES you will make to your game before finishing your game:
● Before finishing my game I will change the size of the avatar to be slightly smaller because right now it is a little bit too big
which cause the game to be over too frequently which could cause the users to be bored.

● Before finishing my game I will change the code so that the revive and restart button can work because it will be easier for
the users to restart to game. The revive button will help so that the users can play the game again at the same place they
loses and continue with the point they have previously.

● Before finishing my game I will change the turn option so that the avatar can only walk in the direction the avatar is
facing at because right now the avatar can move in any direction despite the avatar is looking at different direction .

users if they like or do not like my game also, answering if
my Game Type fit my narrative.

DO USERS LIKE YOUR GAME? WHY OR WHY NOT?

My users both like and don’t my game. My users like my game because my game is simple and easy with detail instruction as
they like in the interview. It is colorful with relaxing background color and cute party popper as decoration. It matches my story
that I write in my English class and it is adventurous like what my users like. My users also don’t like my game because they are
many error and mistake while the game is played such as the avatar suddenly died without doing anything or revive and restart
button does not pop up. The game is unfinished with the restart and revive button does not work and having only one level for the
whole game.
(sentence frame: “My users like my game because _____.”)
(sentence frame: “My users don’t like my game because ____ .”)

HOW DID YOUR CHOICE OF GAME TYPE FIT WITH YOUR NARRATIVE?

My choice of Game Type fit my narrative because my story is about escaping and my game is doing mission which is collecting
the green ball to escape from the room into next level. Even though the game is not finish with only one level available and no gate
or door to escape to but the theme and the goal of the game is still the same. My game type is mostly escaping and adventurous as
what my users like. The escaping theme connect with my story because it is about how much I tried and wanted to run or escape
from my cousin younger brother, Louis when he chase after me with a gecko in his hand. The adventurous part was from
making a escaping game more interesting and filled the users wants.
(sentence frame: “My choice of Game Type fit my narrative because _______ .”)
END OF UNIT REFLECTION

What was your greatest success in this unit?

● My greatest success was the design specification because I have multiple years of practice with the design specification in
design class beforehand. It is easy to write and think about the design specification than other writing which need more
knowledge and understanding.

What was your biggest challenge during this unit?

● My biggest challenge during the unit was creating the game because it is hard to play with the code, put it together and
create a game. It was hard to build a game that connect to my narrative and have the game type that my users like. When
building the game it also need to be connected to the users wants and it was hard to decorated and color choice.
