1.2 The “EV 22” terminal is a high accuracy electronic weighing instrument,
Descriptions of expressly designed for this purpose.
the terminal
“EV22” “EV22MD” It guarantees extremely precise weighing and enables the connection
“EV22ME” with any external devices.
The terminal can be connected to strain gage load cells which receive
– directly or through a lever system – the weight transmitted by the
weighing platform.
This terminal is also provided in the ”EV 22 MD” and ”EV 22 ME” ver-
sions, also called resp. multi–interval (MD) and multi–extension (ME)
models.
The terminal allows max. three ranges with 3000 intervals each to be
displayed.
The instrument features, i.e. its operation with one or more weighing
ranges, are given in the plate containing the technical metrological data
of the instrument (see par. 1.4 on page 11).
The data concerning these features are given as shown in the example
in table 1.1.1 and described here below.

between the pressing of two keys, because in this
case the weighing terminal would exit from the setting
procedure to display the weight again.

Note:
in case of error during setting or if you don’t want to
complete the operation, press any other function key
or avoid any pressing for a few seconds.

Usually, as it is necessary to set more letters than the display can con-
tain, the exceeding characters disappear on the left of the display; the
terminal accepts no more keys when the maximum number of input
characters is reached (max. 20 characters).

6.4 The most common weighing and terminal use operations are described
Most common below.
weighing
operations
6.4.1
Weight zero–setting
Pressing the key causes the weight zero–setting with an accu-
racy of one fourth of the minimum interval of the instrument.
This zero–setting must meet the following requirements:
the weight must be within the zero–setting range (–1% ÷ +3% of the
capacity for terminals subject to metrical check and ±50% for differ-
ent terminals);
6.4.2 The terminal is provided with two different systems of tare acquisition:
Setting a tare value
1. Self–weighed tare.
In this case the weight on the instrument is acquired as tare value.
2. Set tare.
In this case the operator has to write the tare value to be stored by
the numeric keys.
Note:
once the tare has been set, the instrument display will
directly show the net weight calculated by the ter-
minal.
When the gross weight exceeds the maximum ca-
pacity of the instrument, the terminal activates the
overload indication even if the displayed net weight
is lower.
54
6.4.3 After the tare has been positioned on the instrument, press the key
Self–weighed tare
Note:
on the EV 22 MD terminals, after the tare value has
been automatically acquired, the weight will be dis-
played again with the interval of the lower range.
55
6.4.4 The operator must set the tare value by writing with the numeric keys.
Set tare Follow the procedure described below:
Note:
do not wait more than 4 seconds between the pres-
sing of two keys.
Set the tare values, in our
example 130 kg, by the numeric
keys and the display will show the
set tare value.

6.15.1 The EV22 terminal allows you to enable this function, which is added
Introduction to all the functions listed for the basic operation. The piece–counter
press .
Note:
the operation cannot be changed if the MPP function is active.
The piece–counter function is based on the fact that the scale, after ac-
quiring or receiving a weight referred to a unit from outside, divides the
current net weight by that value in order to obtain the number of el-
ements available on the instrument; therefore it is very important to care
for the acquisition or setting of the unit weight, because the more accu-
rate the unit weight, the more precise the counting of the piece number
will be.
The unit weight can be set in four ways:
acquired by the instrument by the calibration of a preset piece
number;
For a correct use of the piece counter and for getting a good accuracy,
it is advisable to refer to the indications below:
106
always use a suitable number of samples while calculating the aver-
age unit weight, so as to balance possible differences of the pieces;
if you need to count lighter pieces, consider that the min. counting
resolution is 1/10 of interval and that the calculation of the average
unit weight must be made using at least 30 samples.

unit weight; in this way, the procedure is repeated and ends with the
display of the new calculated unit weight (this function is described
in par. 6.15.3 on page 109, and is called unit weight calculation by
successive acquisitions);
3. returning to the weight display function by unloading the instrument
Note:
in the unit weight acquisition phase no sort of tare can
be entered.
108
6.15.3 This function allows you to calculate, for successive acquisitions, the
Unit weight unit weight of a series of samples for which – in the first acquisition only
calculation by – you have to set the number of samples being loaded; for the following
successive acquisitions, the instrument counts the number of pieces that have
acquisitions been added and recalculates the unit weight automatically. This func-
tion is aimed at correcting any rounding errors which could be signifi-
cant when counting a lot of pieces.
Further, in case of dissimilar pieces, this function allows you to calculate
an average unit weight taking these defects into account.
To activate this function proceed as follows:
2. When the message appears, load the instrument with the
samples.
3. The average unit weight calculated on the number of samples cur-
rently loaded on the instrument is displayed.
4. Increase the number of samples adding a quantity ranging be-
tween 1/10 and 3 times the load currently loaded on the instrument.
5. Repeat the operation until the recalculated unit weight is quite
corresponding to the previous one. If you want to calculate the av-
erage weight of dissimilar samples, you should continue so as to
acquire at least all the different samples, or to load all the pieces
you want to count. In this way, the counting operation is slower, as
it must occur by subsequent loadings and not in one single loading,
but a higher accuracy is guaranteed.

rated capacity of the instrument.
The totalizations are also enabled in this operation; but only the net
weight is totalized, as the gross weight and the tare are not significant.
To know the total of the weighing operations performed in sequence,
ask for the print or display of the partial total.
112
6.17 The terminal stores the following data tables permanently:
Storage capacity 1. the product codes with the descriptions and the totals differentiated
by this code;
2. the preset tares;
3. the totals differentiated by general code.
Each of these data tables can be disabled during the terminal customizing,
so as not to occupy memory if it is not used.
The max. number of data that can be stored in the terminal results from
the whole storage capacity, as well as from a number of used tables and
from the max. element value defined for each of them.
The same alphanumeric descriptions occupy memory according to
their length; so shorter descriptions allow more data to be stored.

7.7 The EV22 terminals provided with the MPP (permanent weight storage)
MPP option option can store the weight data of any single weighing operation in a
permanent storage or on paper (approved printer) and can also trans-
mit the values to an external peripheral together with an identification
code which is given automatically by the terminal itself.
Entering this code on the weighing terminal or reading the records on
paper, it is possible to check the correctness of the data item received
and/or printed by the external peripheral.
The identification code assignment system operates in such a way that
the same number is not repeated for a period of at least two years.
The memory capacity allows about 150,000 weighing operations to be
stored, corresponding to approx. 4 months of continuous utilization of
the terminal performing 1000 weighing operations a day.
In case of less frequent use the above mentioned time values increase.

The instrument is provided with a buffer battery which keeps the data
stored in the memory of the instrument, even when it is off, for about two
months.
The battery charges automatically during the instrument operation.
Considering its simple structure, the instrument doesn’t need any
special maintenance for the mechanical parts.
If properly used, the mechanical parts of the terminal have no troubles
during the operation.
