MARS ORBITER MISSION 2013-14

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

The satisfaction and euphoria that accompany the successful completion of

any task would be incomplete without the mention of the people, who are
responsible for the completion of the technical seminar because it is epitome of
hard work, perseverance, undeterred missionary zeal, steadfast determination,
unperturbed concentration, dedication and most of all encouraging guidance. So
with gratitude I acknowledge all those whose guidance and encouragement served
as a “Beacon Light” and crowned our effort with success.

My humble pranaams to SRI SRI SRI DR. NIRMALANANDANATHA

MAHA SWAMIJI for his divine blessings

I am grateful to thank Dr. K.M. RAVIKUMAR, PRINCIPAL, for helping

and guidance throughout our academic carrier.

I would like to thank Gp.Capt V Rajan (Retd), HOD, Dept. of

Aeronautical Engineering for providing all the help and guidance needed for the
successful completion of the technical seminar.

I express my heartfelt thanks to my department faculties for providing

opportunity to perform technical seminar work in this institution under their
directions. Without their guidance, support and technical expertise, this work
would have been a distinct dream for me.

I take the opportunity to express my deep sense of gratitude to my parents

and family, who introduced me to the graduate engineering studies and were a
constant source of moral support, love and encouragement throughout my studies.

I thank all those persons and all well-wishers who directly and indirectly
helped and motivated me to complete the technical seminar successfully.

MARS ORBITER MISSION 2013-14

ABSTRACT

Mangalyaan, also known as Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), is India’s first mission to Mars set for
launch aboard a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle in November 2013 for an arrival at Mars
inSeptember 2014. The 1,337-Kilogram spacecraft carries a suite of five instruments to study
Mars, its atmosphere and acquire photos of the Red Planet. Most importantly, the mission serves
as a demonstration mission with the main objective of placing Mangalyaan in orbit around Mars
as a study for future spacecraft and mission design.
