ABSTRACT
In the past few years, incessant building failure has been reported resulting in the loss of

lives and properties. People, community, and government can make a move to prevent such

incident. Disasters are unexpected events which have adversely affected humans since the dawn

of our existence. In response to such events, there have been attempts to mitigate devastating

effects of these disasters. Results of such attempts are very encouraging in developed countries

but unfortunately poor in developing countries including ours. Some of the unpredictable and

unpreventable disasters are earthquake, typhoon and fire.

This study entitled “Level of Awareness of Residents on Hazard Resistant Structural

Designs of Houses in Sariaya, Quezon”, this study will utilize the descriptive research design

because it aimed to describe the independent and dependent variables. Relevant books, seminar

papers, workshop papers, articles, etc. were reviewed so as to examine the general view of

individuals that have worked on similar study. Data for the study were obtained using survey

type questionnaire given to randomly chosen respondents.

The study is focused on determining the level of awareness of hazard-resistant structural

designs of houses in Sariaya, Quezon. The respondents of the study are limited only to those

residents who are 18 years old and above. The study will be conducted from June to October

2017.

After treating the gathered data statistically, the researchers arrived at the conclusions that

male are more knowledgeable compare to female when it comes to building construction and

constructing a hazard resistant structural design of houses. They also concluded that age is one of

the factor that affect the level of awareness of certain people about hazard resistant structural

design of houses. Lastly, they arrived at the conclusion that individual who failed to attained
XII

schooling are more knowledgeable compare to those who attend school when it comes to

building construction and building a hazard resistant structural houses.

Based on the findings and formulated conclusions of the study, the researchers

recommended to the residents of Sariaya and future homeowners, they also recommended to

consult building professionals to ensure proper and efficient supervision of workmen as well as

efficient checking of materials before incorporation into building works.

They also recommended to consider the standard design fo hazard resistant structural

design of houses to prevent or to lessen the casualties when such hazards happened.
