Introduction
UKCBC wants to make a research on the satisfaction level of the students to enhance the quality
of the students. So this report is based on the research and includes several methods to convey
the serve on the students. At the end of the survey, UKCBC wants to make a business decision
that is taken by the help of this report.

Task 1: Planning the survey


a) Create a plan for collecting data from students across all campuses
To conduct any survey, planning for collecting data is a very important task. There are several
ways to collect data for surveying UKCBC’s Students Experience and Satisfaction. The data can
be collected from two sources as the primary source and secondary source. Primary sources are
interviewing the students and teachers, collect the result of each semester, observe the facility
provided by the college, number of native and foreign students etc. (Brealey and Myers, 2011).
There is a problem of primary data as there is a possibility of giving a false answer to the question.
Secondary sources are historical data of UK College of business and computing, past research of
other colleges, government report, newspapers and journal.

Here, it is very important to know the purpose of collecting data for UKCBC. Keeping the purpose
in mind, the planning of collecting data will be conducted.

First of all, the necessity of collecting data has to be identified. For example, here the main task is
to know the UKCBC’ services to satisfy the students. Secondly, the problem should be identified.
For example, UKCBS wants to know how much the students are satisfied by their services and
wants to know their feedback on the college. Thirdly, it is to be considered that what types of data
should be collected. For this research purpose, primary data need to be collected. Fourthly, it needs
to be determined that what will be the mode of the data, such as qualitative or quantitative data.
Lastly, it needs to be considered that the availability of data( Halale, 2010). If all data are available
in primary sources then there is no need to go for secondary data. But if there is a lack of data in
the primary source then there is a need for secondary sources.
b) Present the survey methodology and sampling frame used
Survey methodology indicates that how the research work will be accomplished. It includes the
objective of the research, preparing the questionnaires, collecting data, selecting the focus group (
Halale, 2010). For conducting the research on UKCBC, a set of questionnaires will be prepared on
the basis of quantitative data. So some mathematical and statistical procedures need to be followed.

As the number of students of UKCBC is huge so it is not possible to go to each student to collect
data. For this reason, a sampling frame needs to be created. There are various types of sampling is
used while conducting any research work as random sampling, cluster sampling, stratified
sampling, multistage sampling etc. (Mackie, 2004). For this survey, a random sampling technique
is used. The test will be conducted among 60 students as it is not possible to go to all the students
because it is a time consuming and very costly too.

c) Design a questionnaire for collecting the data.


As it is quantitative research, each question will contain a score and will be close ended. The
student has to put a right mark on the question that will be provided to them to conduct the survey.
The following questionnaire will be given to the students to conduct the survey as follows:

most updated course materials and high-quality teaching pattern. This survey is conducting to
know the satisfaction level of the students and to identify the areas of improvement that will
enhance the quality education service for the student. So your participation makes this survey more
effective and enhances the satisfaction level of the students as well as the quality of the education
of UKCBC. So kindly answer all the question and note that your name and answers will be kept

Task 2 : Summarising and analysing the data
a) Summarise the data collected from the survey by using representative values (arithmetic mean,

On the other hand, mean, mode and median of the each question is calculated as follows:

b) Analyse the results of the survey and draw conclusions


In question no 1, the students of UKCBC are satisfied by the teaching quality of the college which
is expressed by the mean of 3.6.Mode and median are 4 which shows that they agree with this
question and the mean also express the same. In question 2 and 3 has the similar result that they
are satisfied by the environment and the topics of their subject. Mean and mode also supports the
mean result which is a very positive news for the report submitted to QAA. However, the
satisfaction level has decreased in question 4 which was about the classroom facilities. So the
college should increase the classroom facilities for the students. Median and mode are 3 which
supports the mean result. At question 5, the most of the student remains neutral, on the quality of
the teachers which scores 3.05. So UKCBC should give more priority to increase the quality of the
students. Next four questions as 6, 7, 8 and 10 got similar mean and mode and median which is
below 3 that implies, they disagree with the library facility, teachers and staffs co-operation,
dormitory and career opportunity. In question number 9, students strongly agree that they get more
time to part time job opportunity from the college that can be justified by the score 3.67 as well as
median and mode.

So from the result, it can be concluded that on some factor, students strongly agree as environment
and quality education and topics covered by UKCBC. But there are some factors where the
students strongly disagree. For example, teachers and staffs co-operation, classroom and library
and dormitory facility etc. So UKCBC should increase the services of these areas to improve the
quality of education and as well as to increase the satisfaction level of the students.

c) Analyse the data using measures of dispersion


Measures of dispersion mainly analyse the range of values for particular variables. Standard
deviation and variance need to be calculated to get measures of dispersion. Standard deviation
measures the dispersion of a set of data which is mainly square root of variance determines the
dispersion from mean to each set of data (McClave, 2007). The measures of dispersion are given

The standard deviation of the question implies that there are little volatility and fluctuation of the
answers given by the students. Which means, in most of the time all the 60 students give their
answer at the same pattern and there is high consistency among the student’s answers. This similar
pattern dispersion shows that the accuracy of the survey on UKCBC students. The highest standard
deviation is seen in question 4 on the classroom facility and the low standard deviation is seen in
question 5 that all the students strongly agree that the teachers of UKCBC are resourceful and
qualified. Same thing happens while measuring variance. Highest and low variance happened in
question 4 and 5 respectively. So the students of UKCBS is doubtful of the classroom facilities,
on the contrary, they have no doubt that their teachers are qualified and resourceful.

d) Explain how you can use quartiles, percentiles and the correlation coefficient to draw useful
conclusions

Quartiles, percentiles and the correlation coefficient are very important for understanding the mode
of the population. From the quartiles, percentiles and the correlation coefficient UKCBC will be
able to understand the data set more efficiently and take a more effective decision. For example,
1st quartile of question 6 implies that 50% percent of a participant of the survey give score 2 for
this question. If the frequency table it was seen, it can be proved that 25% disagrees with that
question. On the other hand, the third quartile for question 1 score 5 that can be proved by the
frequency table that 33% student strongly agrees with that question.

Percentiles divide a data set into 100 equals’ part which means each part represents 1/100 of the
data set. For example, if the 65% of population shorter than you then your height will be 65th
percentile. UKCBC calculate hundred percentile so it is 5 at each time.

The correlation coefficient measures the movement of variables whether they have a positive or
negative relationship. The range of correlation coefficient stays between +1 to -1. A correlation
containing +1 explains there is a strong positive relation between the variables. On the other, the
hand a correlation containing negative value explains there is no relationship between the variables
(McClave, 2007). Here the correlation coefficient is moderately positive with each question of
UKCBC for the survey.
Task 3
a) Presenting and reporting your findings
Pie chart

The pie chart is a graph chart which circle is divided into the various sector and each sector
represents a proportion of the whole.

This pie chart shows the percentage of students who response the 10 the ten question in the survey.
So it can be concluded that 33% of the students strongly agrees with the questions and only 10%
strongly disagrees with the question. So the satisfaction level of UKCBC is high.

It is a vertical bar chart which shows the graphical result of any data set vertically. Here is the
column chart for UKCBC.

So it is clear that on an average, 20 students among 60 strongly agree with the survey question and
only six students strongly disagree with the asked question. 10 out of 60 have no opinion about the
question. 16 agree and 8 disagree with the question.

Bar chart presents a group of data vertically or horizontally. Here a bar chart shows the result of
the overall survey.

Here it horizontally represents the result of the UKCBC’s survey. It shows that most of the students
are strongly agree with the question asked. 20 out of 60 strongly agrees with the survey question
and only six students strongly disagree with the asked question. 10 out of 60 have no opinion about
the question. 16 agree and 8 disagree with the question.
b) Create trend lines in spreadsheet graphs to assist in determining any pattern in student’s
responses.
Here is the trend line that shows the students satisfaction and answering pattern of the question.

It is clearly seen that it is a downward trend line that shows that the most of the students are strongly
agree with the survey question. After that, the line is getting a downward shape because most of
the students are strongly agree with the satisfaction level of the UKCBC. A few students strongly
disagree with the question that is asked by them. So it is clear from the chart line that the
satisfaction level of the students is very high in UKCBC.

c) Prepare a power point presentation of your findings to the QAA planning committee.
The presentation is given in appendix part of the report.
d) Produce a formal report suitable for presentation to QAA
Introduction

UKCBC is a well-known college of UK, recently conduct a research work to the satisfaction level
of the students. After completing the research, the college finds a positive result that the students
are satisfied with the service of UKCBC.

Purpose and Limitation

The main purpose of this research is to measure the experience and the satisfaction of the students
on the UKCBC. There are some other purposes of conducting the research. For example making
long run plan for the students of the college. By conducting the research UKCBC is able to know
how the students feel from the college and their satisfaction level. There is some limitation faced
while conducting the research. First of all, the sampling size is made of only 60 students as it is
not possible to go to every student of the college. Secondly, only their satisfaction level is known
from the research but the reason of dissatisfaction still remains unknown.

Content

The content of this report of UKCBC includes the detail survey methodology and present the result
in a frequency table. The overall summary of the research is accumulated and presented in the
report. It also adds some recommendation in the report for management.

Summary and Recommendation

The summary of the reports reveals that the students of UKCBC are satisfied with the education
service provided to them. However, there is some reason of dissatisfaction as classroom facilities
teachers’ quality and staffs behaviour. The recommendation for UKCBC are following:

 Increase the classroom facilities.


 Co-operation of teachers and staffs should be increased.
 Enhance teacher quality.
Task 4

a) Using information processing tools such as computers or software, explain how it can support
decision making at operational, tactical and strategic levels in an organisation.
Basically, four information processing tools that are used to support the decision-making process
of UKCBC.

Transaction processing systems (TPS)

Transaction processing system is an information system which collects, store, modify and
disseminate all type of data. They advantages of using transaction processing system such as
continuous availability data integrity and easy to use modular growth. So UKCBC can use TPS as
information processing tool (McClave, 2007).

Management Information Systems (MIS)

MIS mainly includes transaction processing system (TPS), decision support system (DSS), and
executive information system (EIS). Planning, controlling, recording transaction, performance
measurement, decision making can be done by this tools of processing information. So it will help
UKCBC to make any critical decision (Mackie, 2004).

Executive information systems (EIS)

EIS is commonly known as an executive support system. It is a decision-making support system


(DSS) which helps the senior management to make any kind of decision. So UKCBC can use it to
make any decision (Mackie, 2004).

Decision-Support Systems (DSS)

UKCBC can use DDS to make the decision for the student of the college. Under this processing
system, data can be processed interactively to analyse the decisions of the staffs and the managers.
b) Prepare a project plan for the given project activity and determine the critical path

Critical Path shows those activities if they are delayed then the whole project will be
hampered by the delayed time (Lewis, 2003).

Here the critical path is A, B, C, G and H. these activities are very important for the project because
delaying any of the activities will delay the whole project by the same number of the day.

c) Using financial tools for decision-making advice a business planning on investing in a project.

While investing in a project then it needs to determine the cash inflow from the project. NPV
basically determine the difference between the present value of cash inflow and cash outflow
(Ross, 2005). If the NPV of the project is positive it means that project is profitable.

Time (n) = 4 years

Required rate of return (k) =10%

Here the NPV of the project is £7709 so it can be said that investing in that project will add value
as the NPV is positive

Internal Rate of Return (IRR)

The internal rate of return is a metric use in capital budgeting decision, that measures at which
discount rate, the required rate of return of the net present value (NPV) will be zero. Basically, it
shows the return on actual money invested. (Jaffe, 2005)
So to calculate IRR is 34.77% which is higher than the required rate of return and suggest to go
for the project.

Conclusion
At the end, it can be said the business decision depends on several factors such as information
processing tools and financial calculation. For this reason, the management should give
emphasises on data collection method and conduct a statistical test before making any decision.
