Lesson Title: Healthy Relationships

What is it about this unit you want to stick with your students?
The importance of communication and self-advocacy in making decisions and discussing
topics related to sexual health such as consent, STI’s, contraceptives, gender identity and
sexual orientation. Additionally, the ability to seek out reliable and trusting resources that will
assist them in learning more.

Why?
To give students a greater understanding of their values as they relate to sexual health and
relationships in order to equip them with the skills and resources to make healthy choices for
themselves now and in the future.

Curriculum Connections:
C2.2 ​demonstrate an understanding of the skills and strategies needed to build healthy social
relationships and intimate relationships [PS, IS]

C3.3 ​describe skills and strategies that can be used to prevent or respond to situations of
verbal, physical, and social bullying and sexual harassment [PS, IS, CT]

Learning Goals:
1. We are learning about what healthy self-esteem is and the factors that may influence
self- esteem
2. We are learning how self-esteem and relationships interact
3. We are learning about what healthy, unhealthy and abusive behaviours look like in
relationships
4. We are learning how to communicate our needs in challenging situations

affect our self-esteem?
○ How do you think self-esteem and relationships are
related?
● Rotate one more time and then take 2 min to discuss with
group what main points you want to share with class

Step Into Circle (5 min)


● Get students to move desks and create a circle
○ A statement will be read out loud
○ If it is true for you simply step into the circle and step out
when you are ready
○ Do not feel you HAVE to answer the statements either
way

Debrief:

3. How might these contribute to relationships?
