INTRODUCTION

PHARMACIST

A Pharmacist is a person who is professionally qualified to prepare and dispense

medicinal drugs. Also they are known as chemists. They are health professionals who

practice in pharmacy, the field of health sciences focusing on safe and effective

medication use.

Pharmacists are healthcare professionals who practice in pharmacy. They are

involved in all aspects of medicine delivery to patients. They will prepare and package

medication that a doctor has prescribed and also sell medication over the counter.

Pharmacists will explain what your medicine is for, how it works, what to expect when

taking the medication and what to look out for. If you don’t understand any aspects of

your health condition your pharmacist will be well placed to help you. Pharmacist also

supervise the medicines supply chain and ensure pharmacy premises and systems are fit

for purpose, advise other healthcare professionals about safe and effective medicines use,

and safe and secure supply of medicines, respond to patients' symptoms and advise on

medicines for sale in pharmacies, provide services to patients, such as blood pressure

measurement and cholesterol management, and supervise the production and preparation

of medicines and assessments of quality of medicines before they are supplied to patients

from pharmaceutical manufacturers.

Research Questions:

1. What do you think is the most important aspect of being a pharmacist?

2. What factors do you consider before dispensing prescription medicines to patients?

3. How have you educated patients in managing their medication?

LITERATURE REVIEW

Foreign Literature

According to the Right Pharmacy Management System, the key benefits of the

pharmacy management system-automating processes, streamlining workflow and thereby

enhancing the customer base-are attracting enough to draw retail pharmacy chains

competing in a world of growing. The pharmacist who are dealing with these patients are

they feel confident while dealing with patients and patients also show trust on their

suggestions and seek medical advice directly from these community pharmacies because

they are faster and less expensive than the physicians.

Foreign Studies

The professional services and activities of the pharmacist have considerably

evolved in the last decades. The mainly-health-related activity of a pharmacist is to

ensure quality of dispensing. The role of pharmacist is dispensing medicines is very

important and all the resources involved in patients care, up to the point of dispensing,

may be wasted if dispensing is erroneous. World Health Organization, (1988) recognizes

and advocates the role of pharmacist as ‘seven star pharmacist’ who is a care giver,

decision maker, communicator, leader, manager, lifelong learner and a teacher. Thus,

putting him/her in a unique position in health care system for performing these roles.
Local Literature

Pharmacist work primarily for pharmacies and drugstores; however, hospitals and

medical clinics may employ their own pharmacists to dispense drugs directly to patients.

Pharmacist who works for hospitals must analyze both in-patient and out-patient

medication, so close attention to detail is very important in this position to ensure the

accuracy of filled prescriptions. In addition, to filling prescriptions from medical doctors,

pharmacists must also be able to decide what medication is appropriate for each patient

and identify any errors by physicians in prescribing medication to patients.

Local Studies

A pharmacist is simply one who sells medicine – one who stands behind

drugstore counters, busily taking the prescriptions from customers and giving them the

medicines they need. According to Leonila Ocampo the president of the Philippine

Pharmacists Association (PPA) said that the perception of the community is that the

pharmacist is just a seller of the drug and you can’t blame the pharmacist because that is

what the pharmacist sees and that is how some pharmacist act. Pharmacists play a crucial

role in the effective delivery of health services. Pharmacist called medical experts, they

are the ones who study the details and components of a drug or medicine.

research participants should be prioritised; full consent should be obtained from the

participants prior to the study; The protection of the privacy of research participants has

to be ensured; anonymity of individuals and organizations participating in the research

has to be ensured; Any exaggeration about the aims and objectives of the research must

be avoided; Affiliations in any forms, sources of funding, as well as any possible

conflicts of interests have to be declared; Any type of communication in relation to the

Research Questions:

1. What do you think is the most important aspect of being a pharmacist?

 Providing great patient care is probably the best thing you can do for the

business side of pharmacy. Patients who feel they receive great care and

have a pharmacist who is knowledgeable and cares about them

individually will continue to frequent that pharmacy. Because if you

provide what they need they will truly appreciate what you do. And they

will also trust you for doing a great job.

2. What factors do you consider before dispensing prescription medicines to patients?

 Dispensing environments must be clean because most medicinal products

are for internal use, making it important that they be hygienic and

uncontaminated. The environment must also be organized so that

dispensing can be performed accurately. Dispensing is doing by the person

who knows how to do it because there is a rules or procedures that you

should follow before you do that thing.

3. How have you educated patients in managing their medication?

 It is important tool for ensuring the health of these individuals as well as

managing their health care costs. Benefits of providing medication

management for this population include: better outcomes for older adults.

Reduced illnesses and deaths due to medication noncompliance or drug

interactions. Even they are educated they also need to consult to a

pharmacist if the medicine they are taking is right.

CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS

A pharmacist is a person who is professionally qualified to prepare and dispense

medicinal drugs. Also they are known as chemists. They are health professionals who

practice in pharmacy, the field of health sciences focusing on safe and effective

medication use. Pharmacists are healthcare professionals who practiced in pharmacy.

They are involved in all aspects of medicine delivery to patients. They will prepare and

package medication that a doctor has prescribed and also sell medication over the

country. Pharmacists will explain what your medicine for, how it works, what to expect

when taking the medical and what you look out for.

Pharmacist also supervise the medicines supply chain and ensure pharmacy

premises and systems are fit for purpose, advise other healthcare professionals about safe

and effective medicines use, and safe and secure supply of medicines, respond to patients

symptoms and advise on medicines for sale in pharmacies, provide services to patients,

such as blood pressure measurement and cholesterol management, and supervise the

production preparation of medicines and assessments of quality of medicines before they

are supplied to patients from pharmaceutical manufacturers. When doctors give us a

“reseta” and we don’t know how to read it they are there to give us what we need for us

to have a good health or to cure our diseases. Pharmacist is also the one dealing to the

patients who need medicines and sometimes the other patients don’t want to buy the

meds because it’s expensive and don’t have enough money to buy it. So, the pharmacist

has the solution for the patient who can’t afford medicines. They will recommend the

medicines that they needed but sometimes in a low quality.
