INTRODUCTION:

Over last these decades since 1974 when the group was established the
sage of the AIW group is a record of successful evolution as pioneering vision
and powerful drive to change ahead of the times has pushed the group to
become a one of Indian finest and most integrated jobbing foundries located at
Belgaum 500 kilometers south of Mumbai and 150 kilometer from goa. The
AIW group has foundries and machine shops that add value by machining over.
By machining over 60% of the castings manufactured to fully finished
condition.

COMPANY PROFILE

Ashok Iron Works Pvt.ltd was established in the year 1974 with a
commitment to offer world-class castings. Over the years the company
increased its production with a modest capacity of 50MT month to 1500MT per
month and emerged as a leading industrial conglomerate.

The keen foresight and determination of founders “Shri Ashok S.


Humbarwadi and Shri Vasudev Phanaji” makes Ashok Iron Works to be
ranked as one among the top 5 jobbing foundries in India and one of the best in
Global scenario.

Since its inception the vision of Ashok Iron Group is to ensure dominant
presence in the core sector industries which are critical for a growing economy
of India and in enhancing and maintaining its strength at the top in India and
one of the best in the global scenario of foundry of business. This requires

to knowledge integration and continues learning/ up gradation/improvement.
The activities of the company are oriented around the axis of innovation, world

The main manufacturing activities are:

1. Producing of casting weighing from 20kgs to 300kgs.


2. Machining of casting, components/crankshafts, selected I.C engine
components and sub assembles for diesel engines, tractors and
automobile industries in India and around the world.

The steady and phenomenal growth of Ashok Iron Group over a span of 37
years is not merely an incident, but it is the result of the determination and keen
foresight of founders.

Ashok iron Group has 3 large foundries and 7 Machining divisions. These
divisions are independent functional unit that are treated as strategic units of
Ashok Group.

AIW has well equipped machine shops which machine most of the
companies are fully machined, ready to use condition. Products manufactured
mainly include C.I castings required for automotive, farm equipments and diesel
engine industries.

SWOT ANALYSIS:-

STRENGTH:

 AIW is the 6th largest foundry of India.


 The company is capable of relatively faster development of new
component comparing with other competitors.
 It has low capacity cost, lower labor cost as compared to its competitors.
 The company has different machinery which can produce range of
products.
 AIW has good infrastructure, physical and innovation in manufacturing
process in terms of components products.
 It has highly related customers profile Cummins India Ltd, Lister peter
India Ltd, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, & Simpson & company Ltd etc.

WEAKNESS:

 In spite of wide customers base it is still substantially dependent for order


on diesel engines/farm equipment industry which are traditional tools.
 Plant I foundry is semi automated & very old as a result its product do not
have the requisite surface finish & the productivity is also low. The
company is however proposing to modernization.
 They are dependent on their regular customers only so they do less
marketing and promotion activity.

OPPORTUNITY:

 Some of the major customers like global pressure; a large export market
opening up may pave the way for a wider customer base.
 Many customers are looking for outsourcing & retaining only design,
critical assembly and markets aspects there opens up tremendous
opportunity for supplying machined component.
 Diversification of production & innovation in production range.

THREATS:

 Small manufactures are producing casting at cheaper rate than AIW for
certain items, which may not meet the quality standards.
 Changing government policies.
 Competitors like Arun Iron Works, Caftron casting, NICO, JP Etc.
