ABSTRACT

Survey results of active family planning women in Central Lampung in 2014 showed the
contraception used by respondents of Fertile Age Couple most injection 61,788 (30,12%),
and next pill 57,986 (28,27%), implant 38,375 ( 18.71%), Intra Uterine Devices (IUD)
37,860 (18.46%), Female Operations Method 3,179 (1.55%), condoms 3,097 (1.51%),
Male Operations Method 2,841 (1.39%). Injectable contraception has advantages and
disadvantages. The most common side effect of injectable contraception is weight gain.
The hypothesis of the DMPA experts stimulates the appetite-controlling center in the
hypothalamus, which causes the acceptor to eat more than usual. The purpose of the
research is to know correlation between injectable contraceptive with body weight in fertile
age couple at BPS 'S' Working Area of Gunung Sugih Public Health Center Central
Lampung 2018

This was an analytic research with cross sectional approach. Population all Fertile Age
Couple who used injecting contraception according to Medical Record of BPS 'S' Working
Area of Gunung Sugih Public Health Center Central Lampung in May 2018 were 143
mothers with Simple Random Sampling technique as many as 58 people. Data analysis
used Chi Square test.

The research result most of respondent use inject contraception 3 month that is counted 34
people (58,6%). Most of the respondents experienced weight gain as many as 31 people
(53.4%). There was significant correlation between injectable contraceptive with body
weight in fertile age couple at BPS 'S' Working Area of Gunung Sugih Public Health Center
Central Lampung 2018 (p-value = 0.004 and OR = 5.829). Suggestions need to add
information to the Age Fertile Couple injectors injecting contraceptives by giving
counseling about the importance of maintaining a regular diet and exercise activities.
Provide leaflets on healthy and balanced diet and light exercise activities within the home
in order to prevent weight gain in injection contraceptive acceptor.
