A place to live, work, and visit…

We are proud to be part of the Columbia SC midlands community.

A brief history of Bicycle City…

• Mid 90’s – 2005: R & D
• 2006: Funding
• 2010: The first Bicycle

begins. A vision of BC by Mary Anne Lederer
4,200 Miles for Kids

In 1986, BC Team Members Joe Mellett (middle) and Ward Allebach (right) rode their
bikes 4,200 miles across the US to raise money for Big Brothers & Sisters and United
Cerebral Palsy – and learning how healthy and fun a cycling lifestyle can be.
Other inspirations included: a visit to Arcosanti AZ; bike/car accidents; animal and
environmental protection; etc.
The Bicycle City team includes top advisors and consultants including:

Bicycle City chose our location in
part because of the 3 Rivers Greenway – one of America’s
most beautiful and well designed car-free greenway systems.
Bicycle City is connected to local population and job centers;
recreation; education; health services; attractions; farmers
markets and rail/bus transportation via greenways and low
traffic routes. More community connections are on the way.

• Why this Location? Lexington County support for
sustainable development; proximity to: downtown Columbia
with 8 colleges & universities, the car-free 3 Rivers Greenway;
and the SC State Farmers Market; year-round cycling climate;
Lexington schools; and our beautiful site with multiple lakes,
gentle terrain and significant tree preservation.
• If I own a car, where do I park it? Convenient community
parking is available near your home - only 400 feet in the case
of the first 9 home-sites. Want more closeness to your car? -
live nearer to the perimeter. If you don’t own a car or just
want a more natural, quiet setting - live closer to the center.
Open minded approach
to innovation in human
powered transportation.
