says NZ Police who are gearing up for changes to obtaining new firearms licenses starting July 1st.

About 230,000 licensed firearms owners
own and use New Zealand’s estimated
1.5 million privately owned guns (legal
and illegal).
Guns are not currently a major political
issue, but surprisingly, gun laws in New
Zealand are notably more liberal than
other countries like US or Canada. Gun
licenses are issued at the discretion of
the Police in New Zealand.
The new rules come as figures released
to media show 99 percent of firearms
applications in New Zealand were
approved in the past year.
“Much like the process for obtaining
a driver license, first-time applicants
will now need to pass a theory test
and undergo practical training to
obtain a firearms license,” says Acting
Superintendent Mike McIlraith. This will
make it harder to buy and own guns.
The firearms theory test and practical
training require applicants to show that
they have a strong understanding of the
Arms Code and how to stay safe with
firearms. Clubs will play a vital role in
bringing new firearms users together
with experienced users.
We are not talking about farmers who
need firearms for work, looking after
stock and pests or hunters, because
there are a hell lot of other firearms
that are not used for that,” says Police
Association President Chris Cahill.

Why is Ramadan so special to Muslims?
The holy month is upon
us once again. What
happens during the
month? Most importantly,
it is definitely much more
than fasting

The long nights in prayer, the lavish
feasts at sunset and the watermelon
season, oh the holiness is so imminent
everywhere… the fact that Ramadan is
so near has already got me excited! The
holy month is starting this year on May
15 or 16 (depending upon the moon
sighting) and it’s a global matter and
most of the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims
will be observing it. This means there’s
a good chance you might encounter
someone - a friend, a co-worker, the
barista making your latte at Starbucks,
your child’s teacher - who is fasting.
For a month each year, more people may
share this religious practice than during
any other four-week period, whether
they are rich or poor, white, black or
brown, in school, employed or retired,
driving a taxi or running a multinational
corporation, heartbroken or in love,
devout or skeptical.
Ramadan is the most sacred month
of the year for Muslims. Prophet
Mohammed said, “When the month of
Ramadan starts, the gates of heaven are
opened and the gates of Hell are closed
and the devils are chained.”
It was during this month that
Allah revealed the first verses of
the Quran - Islam’s sacred text,
to Prophet Mohammed, on a
night known as
“The Night of Power”
(or Laylat al-Qadr in Arabic).

Many people are exempt from fasting
because they’re pregnant, nursing,
traveling, ill, or too old or too young
for the fast to be a healthy practice.
Generally, young people are expected
to fast once they’ve reached puberty,
but traditions may vary from family
to community to nation. Some who
abstain may give additional charity
instead, or offer food and hospitality
to others.
During the entire month of Ramadan,
Muslims fast every day from dawn
to sunset. It is meant to be a time
of spiritual discipline - of deep
contemplation of one’s relationship
with Allah, extra prayer, increased
charity and generosity, and intense
study of the Quran.
But if that makes it sound super serious
and boring, it’s really not. It’s a time of
celebration and joy, to be spent with
loved ones.
According to the Quran, the Prophet
said: “Whoever does not give up
false statements and evil deeds and
speaking bad words to others, Allah
is not in need of his leaving his food
and drink [or fasting]” - meaning that
you must work on your whole person.
The month is intended to improve
morality and character, so there are
more regular mosque visits alongside
a personal attempt to work on positive
traits and thoughts.
Whereas you’d normally get distracted
by other things in your life, during
Ramadan you are in a constant state
of hunger and thirst. Therefore, you are
constantly aware of why you are fasting.
A typical day during Ramadan for me is
to wake up well before dawn for suhoor,
(to eat the first meal of the day). This
means eating lots of high-protein foods
and drinking as much water as possible
right up until dawn, after which you
can’t eat or drink anything. At dawn, we
perform the morning prayer. Since it’s

usually still pretty early, we go back to
sleep for a bit before waking up again to
get ready for the day.
We don’t avoid work or school or any
other normal duties during the day just
because we are fasting.
When the evening call to prayer is
finally made (or when the alarm on your
phone’s Muslim prayer app goes off), we
break the day’s fast with a light meal -
really more of a snack - called an iftar
(literally “breakfast”), before performing
the evening prayer.
This is usually followed by a larger meal
a bit later in the evening, which is often
shared with family and friends in one
another’s homes throughout the month.
Then it’s off to bed for a few hours of
sleep before it’s time to wake up and
start all over again
There are good reasons for only having
a small snack to break your fast before
performing the evening prayer and
then eating a bigger meal later. Muslim
prayers involve a lot of movement
- bending over, prostrating on the
ground, standing up, etc. Doing all that
physical activity on a full stomach after
not having eaten for 15 hours is a recipe
for disaster. Just trust me on this one.
Some of you may be thinking, “Wow,
that sounds like a great way to lose
weight! I’m going to try it!” But in fact,
Ramadan is actually notorious for often
causing weight gain. That’s because
eating large meals super early in the
morning and late at night with a long
period of low activity bordering on
lethargy in between can wreak havoc on
your metabolism.
Despite the hardship of fasting for a
whole month, most Muslims (myself
included) actually look forward to
Ramadan and are a little sad when
it’s over. There’s just something really
special about knowing that tens of
millions of your fellow Muslims around

the world are experiencing the same
hunger pangs, dry mouth, and dizzy
spells that you are, and that we’re all in
it together.
No matter where a fasting Muslim may
be, Ramadan is a call for an internal
spiritual and physical cease-fire. The
point of the fast is to worship the Divine
by demonstrating control over earthly
desires -- typically food, drink, tobacco
and sex -- during daylight hours. It is
also an opportunity to demonstrate
“high road” values -- being gracious,
generous and gentle -- toward others
no matter how cranky or irritated you
might be, especially when your blood
sugar plummets and your mouth is
too dry to speak. The combination of
physical and spiritual self-awareness is
a test of character: When your stomach
growls from hunger will you snap at
your pesky child? Your thoughtless
neighbour? A careless colleague? The
boorish driver who cut you off ? Or
will you remain peaceful, practicing
the patience and graciousness you
promised yourself and your Creator? A
practice it is, replete with discoveries
and acknowledgements of imperfection
and abounding with opportunities to
ask forgiveness and try again.
So if you’re not supposed to get angry
or complain or gossip during Ramadan,
how come terrorist attacks by groups
like ISIS and Al Qaeda always seem to
spike during Ramadan?
How do you justify fighting during a
month -- or on a day -- that prescribes
piety and self-restraint? How can
fasting people commit acts of war and
terrorism during Ramadan? Can they
call themselves “Muslim” with integrity?
During the hajj, Islam’s other great
religious practice, you are forbidden
even to kill a fly while you are in Mecca.
So, to kill a human being in the name of
Islam .....?

Property theft from vehicles
The Onehunga Police have recently been
investigating a series of car break in’s
from around the Maungakiekie area
after two bags of property were dumped
at Jellicoe park near the War Memorial
Pools in Onehunga.
Subsequent enquiries found that a
number of cars had been broken into on
the day that the property was recovered
from Jellicoe Park, and from these cars a
number of handbags and other valuable
items were stolen during these thefts.
Unfortunately the majority of the
property stolen is yet to be recovered,
nonetheless the thief who stole the
property from the cars used the victim’s
stolen credit card to conduct a number
of online purchases resulting in an
address of interest to Police.
From information obtained during
this investigation, a search warrant
was drawn up and executed by the
Community Policing team at two known
addresses associated to the thief who
stole from the cars.

A number of police officers were
involved in the execution of this search
warrant with the hope that some of the
stolen property would be recovered.
Unfortunately Items stolen from the
cars were not located at the addresses,
however several thousand dollars’ worth
of property was recovered relating to the
online purchases by the thief.
What was more concerning was
the number of handbags that were
stashed throughout this address. I
would estimate at least 100 handbags
of various brands such as Guess,
Kardashian, and Calvin Klein just to
name a few.
There is no doubt that these bags were
stolen from cars and were the proceeds
of crime, however none of these hand
bags had any identifying features that
could link back to a victim of a crime.
This is a problem that the New Zealand
Police come up against on a daily basis.
The locating of stolen property without
being able to associate it back to a
person or location of a crime.
In cases such as these, the only option
for Police is to leave suspicious property
with the criminal unless it can be
proven to be stolen and can be linked to
a specific victim.
You can help the Police reduce crime
and hold criminals accountable.
Remove all property from your cars
when they are unattended and ensure
that you mark your valuable property
and write your details on the inside of
your hand bags.
Hand bags are some of the most
common items of property stolen from
victims and vehicles, and once all bank
cards, drivers licences and other forms
of Identification have been removed,
you are left with a hand bag that can be
difficult for a victim to identify as theirs
as there are a number of common brands
currently sold within New Zealand and
victims need to prove what actually
belongs to them. This can be quite
difficult with commonly sold items.

Bhartiya Samaj Charitable Trust
Bharitya Samaj joined hands in
welcoming all and hosting a fun event
in Flatbush offering members an
opportunity to exhibit their talent and
to speak their mind on their fondest
childhood memories with their mothers.

‘Bal Vikas’, a dedicated wing for children,
involved the young kids and asked them
to bring in their mothers on May 13,
2018 who serve as a role model to them.

overwhelming participation which was

The first one was for Senior Citizens
celebrated on May 7, 2018 at Old
FlatBush School Community Hall,

was attended by more than 50 members
from South Auckland.
In addition, a second such gathering for
Senior Citizens was celebrated on May
12, 2018 at Mount Roskill War Memorial
Hall, Mount Roskill, Auckland and had
the presence of over 200 members.
The Mount Roskill gathering had a
large attendance and had a spread of
various activities to grace the occasion.
Enthusiastic members had expressed
their desire to participate in different
acts such as singing, dancing, staging

Fasting in Ramadhan – Wisdom & Blessings
Fasting is a religious practice which is
full of wisdom while people often tend
to look at its ritualistic aspect. Fasting
as a form of worship found universally
in the world religions. We know this
fact in this day and age as the historical
records are freely available in the book
form. However, Almighty God revealed
it to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (on
whom be peace and blessings of Allah)
1,400 years ago. In the Holy Qur’an,
Almighty God says:
“O ye who
believe! fasting
is prescribed for
you, as it was
prescribed for
those before you,
so that you may
guard against evil.”
(2:184)
Iftari evening delights Aucklanders
Ahmadiyya Muslim Community New
Zealand has organised an Iftari evening
(Breaking the fast) at Baitul Muqeet
Mosque on 26th May 2016. The Event
has observed the participation of guest
from various communities around
Auckland. The evening was aimed to
spread peace and harmony in the society
by proclaiming the values and traditions
of Islam. It gave a chance for Aucklanders
to explore the rituals and customs of
Islam. The event began with a short
introduction by Bashir Ahamed Khan,
National President of Ahamadiya Muslim
Jama’at Zew Zealand followed by a brief
presentation on the significance of 'Iftari'
by Imam Mustenser Ahmed Qamar.
The main aim of the event was to break
all stereotypical notions about Islam
and Muslim community. “ There are a
lot of stereotypical assumptions about
the community which have been created
by the fanatics or the people who
misinterpret the religion. We want to
convey our guests that Islam is peace and
the basic principle of Islam is love and
brotherhood” Said Zafarullah, one of
the organisers of the event to The Indian
News. “ We have invited a lot of guests
irrespective of their religion, culture
and ethnicity since we love to foster
brotherhood” he added
Although, among the religions, there
are vast differences regarding the mode
of fasting, the central idea of fasting is
present everywhere which points to its
profound wisdom.
Fasting in Islam is a highly developed
institution. There is one full month,
Ramadhan, in every year in which
fasting is prescribed for Muslims all
over the world. As the month is a
lunar month, so it keeps changing
around the year in relation to the
solar months. This creates a universal
balance for the worshippers.
Fasting in Islam begins everywhere at
the first appearance of dawn, and ends
with sunset. During this period one is
expected to abstain from all food and
drink completely. It is not just physical
hunger and thirst that constitute the
Muslim fast, but the nights prior to the
beginning of the fast acquire a far more
important character and play a central
role in the institution of fasting. The
Muslims wake up many hours before
dawn for individual prayer and the
remembrance of God. Also the Holy
Quran is recited in every Muslim house

Schools, homes, kids: a great plan in Budget 2018
The foundations for a better future
have been laid by Jacinda Ardern and
Grant Robertson this week as they
unveiled the first Budget of the Coalition
Government.
We’re building an economy that delivers
for everyone because we know that so
many middle income earners’ wages
haven’t kept up with living costs,
and many low income earners are
struggling to even pay for the basics for
their kids or have a warm dry home to
raise them in in.
This Budget is about getting the
balance right and ensuring we are
prepared for future economic and
environmental challenges.
It’s great that the economy
remains strong under the Coalition
Government’s plan.
Unemployment is forecast to drop
to 4.1 percent in 2020, there will be
203,000 more jobs between December
2017 and June 2022, and GDP growth
will average 3 percent. This makes our

Budget 2018 is focussed on building
the foundations of a better and fairer
New Zealand. There are major social
and infrastructure deficits that we must
address, and while we can’t do all of this
work in one year we do have a plan, and
this Budget sets out the first steps. Key

Families Package
The Families package was introduced in
our mini-Budget just before Christmas
and will come into effect from 1 July
2018. It represents the government’s
alternative to the previously proposed
tax cuts and includes:
• Changes to Working for Families,
meaning that 380,000 low-middle
income families will on average be
$75/week better off
• A Winter Heating Allowance for
all pensioners and beneficiaries to
ensure that low income households
keep warm and healthy over winter.

• An 8.9% increase for community
midwives
• Cheaper or free GP visits for around
600,000 people. 13 year olds will
now be eligible for free GP visits
(previously only up to 12 years old)
while other low and middle income
earners will see doctors fees reduce
by $20-$30.

services including community policing
to cybercrime and fraud detection.
Education
Significant funding across the sector to
cater for growth and support everyone’s
right to a good education:
• 1500 new teachers funded
• Hundreds of new, modern classrooms
• 8000 more children with added
learning needs will get additional
support including funding for 1000
new ORS students
Housing
In addition to the Kiwibuild plan for
100,000 affordable homes for first home
buyers over 10 years, Budget 2018
funds 6400 new state and community
houses over the coming four years for
lower income households who need a
decent home.
In discussion after the briefing we also
talked about the introduction of the
Research & Development tax credit.
This 12.5% tax credit will be available
to all kiwi businesses who invest in
genuine research and development
and is designed to boost economic
development by bringing up our current
very low private sector R&D spend.
When fully implemented this will be
a $300 million per year commitment.
We also spoke about upcoming
immigration policy changes which

A no plan and no strategy budget
The Labour Government was gifted a
once in a lifetime legacy by our National
Government.
The Labour Party’s gifts included
a strong, prosperous and growing
economy that was on track to improve
the lives and livelihoods of our families.
Unfortunately, the Labour leadership
has decided it does not wish to capitalise
on its gifts.
Instead the Labour Party has decided
that it is better to tax New Zealanders
more, to spend and to spend more,
borrow even more than they had
promised before the general elections.
Essentially the Labour Party is breaking
all their promises in the hope that no
one will notice.
During our time in Government the
Labour Party called everything a crises,
yet their budget offers no new solutions
to back their claims.
National committed more funding to our
health budget year on year than Labour
has for each year.
Before elections they promised universal
cheaper doctors’ visits, 1800 extra cops
and a host of other things.
Unfortunately for us New Zealanders
their Budget is a host of broken promises.
Another promise that they broke was
introducing a number of new taxes, after
saying there won’t be any new taxes in
Labour Governments first term.
Making promises is easy however,
delivering on those promises that result
in more police on our streets, more
surgeries in our hospitals, and better
education for our kids is the what New
Zealander’s want and need to see.
It is senseless to tax more and borrow
more especially when we have one of
the best performing economies in the
developed world.
All that the Labour Government has
decided to do is undo the hard work done

Middle-income New Zealand is
getting steadily worse off due to the
cancellation of National’s tax changes
and the upcoming increase in fuel
taxes that will take petrol and diesel
prices to record levels.
The policies that this Labour Government

to make our boat go faster while the
Labour led Government’s approach is to
drop the anchor.
This is visible in their disappointing
budget that has no plan and no strategy
for New Zealand.
Labour has realised they don’t have
enough money to meet their excessive
election commitments.

MH370 hunt to end next week US disinvites China from its
military exercises
The search for the ill-fated Malaysian
Airlines MH370 plane will end on
May 29, more than four years after it
disappeared while carrying over 200
people from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
Malaysia’s cabinet agreed to extend the
hunt until May 29 to a request by Ocean
Infinity, the American company which
was operating the search.

on Wednesday disinvited China from
participating in a major naval exercise,
pointing towards the mounting anger
in the country over Beijing’s expanded
military footprint in disputed areas of
the South China Sea.
According to The Washington Post, Lt.
Col. Christopher Logan, a Pentagon
spokesman, said that the Defense
Department had withdrawn an earlier
invitation to the Chinese navy to
participate in the Rim of the Pacific
(RIMPAC) drill.
The drill, which is a biennial naval
exercise, involves more than two
dozen nations.
Logan said that the resolution was
taken over Beijing’s decision to place
anti-ship missiles, surface-to-air
missiles and electronic jammers on the
Spratly Islands.
Spratly Islands, which China has
enlarged and occupied in recent years,
are subject to competing claims from
several countries, including Malaysia,
Vietnam and the Philippines.

Kerala: Nipah virus takes toll on sale of fruits
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala): The daily
profits of local fruit sellers in Kerala
have reduced drastically as reports
came in that Nipah virus could spread
through consumption of fruits.
One of the sellers told, “Even though we
are selling at half of the usual price, no
one is willing to buy.”
The Bihar advisory said that the
disease is spread by bats and pigs.
Also, people infected with the disease
can spread the virus.
Till now, Nipah virus has claimed lives

Nationally, the number of properties
sold in the $500,000 to $750,000
bracket increased from 26.9% in April
2017 to 28.3% in April 2018. At the
top end of the market, houses sold
for more than $1 million decreased
from 14.2% of the market in April 2017
to 13.8% of the market this year. It’s
positive to see more sales in the more
affordable price brackets.
The number of properties sold in April
2018 across New Zealand increased by
6.6% compared to the same time last
year, the highest year-on-year increase
the real estate industry has seen in
23 months according to the latest
data from the Real Estate Institute of
New Zealand (REINZ). In April, 6,368
houses were sold across the country
in comparison to 5,973 in April 2017.
However, the number of properties sold
in New Zealand excluding Auckland
increased by 8.4% year-on-year ( from
4,163 in April 2017 to 4,514 in April
2018) due to the sales increase in
the Auckland market being a more
moderate 2.4% increase ( from 1,810
sales in April 2017 to 1,854 house sales
in April 2018)
House prices across NZ continue to
climb. The median house price for
New Zealand rose 1.9% in April 2018 to
$550,000 up from $540,000 in April 2017
and median prices for New Zealand
excluding Auckland increased by 5.7%
year-on-year to $460,000 – the exact
same figure as the previous month.
Median prices for Auckland decreased
marginally by 0.6% to $850,000 (down
from $855,000 in April 2017). The
decrease in the median is due to the
fact that the number of properties in
the mid-range increased and the high-
end ones fell.
The median number of days to sell a
property nationally increased by 2 days
from 34 days in April 2017 to 36 days in
April 2018. This is 2 days more to sell
a property than it took in March this
year. Auckland saw the median days to
sell a property increase by 2 days to 37
(up from 35 in April 2017) and the same
number of days as in March 2018.
Auctions were used in 13.2% of all
sales across the country in April,
with 843 properties selling under the
hammer – this is down from April 2017,
when 17.3% of properties were sold
via auction showing that auctions are
becoming a less popular method of
sale across the country. In Auckland,
436 properties (23.5%) were sold by
auction in April 2018 compared to 559
properties (30.9%) in April 2017.
A tip for sellers – As always, presentation
is important. Scrutinise, go outside and
open your front door. Stand there. Do

Who can stop the unstoppable! The 25 years of glorious journey of

ready to roll out our sixth one. There is a feeling of celebratory happiness mixed
with sadness in the air as I write this editorial in place of our editor Yugal Parashar.

Celebrations because we have been able to make our tabloid come across as an
optimistic newspaper that delivers happiness. One reader told us that after he saw
the headline about North and South Korea’s peace talks, he went to bed that night
feeling a certain calmness and a feeling that the world still has hope.

Sadness as we are bringing out our sixth issue without our editor Yugal Parashar’s
presence as he is away in India to see his ailing mother. Her passing away after she
spent her last few days with her son is an example of a mother’s pure love. On the
day he was returning to New Zealand, she woke up, and the moment she sensed
he was gone, she left peacefully for her heavenly abode. Since he had not reached
the airport, he was able to come back as if everything was planned by an eternal
power with clockwork precision. For a mother, what could be more thoughtful
than this for her son. She was 90 and departed this world on the 24th of May. We
pray for her soul to rest in peace.

It is quite easy to be bogged down with a negative state of mind nowadays. We

Sri Sri: Why do you bother about others?
You look into yourself. If you can be
happy without anything, be happy and if
you need to do whatever you need to do
to be happy then do that.
This analysis will not lead you to
anywhere. Yes! Many people could be
happy with their merits. Some may
look happy but may not be really happy.
Some are happy but may not appear to
be happy. What is the point of you doing
any research on it? If it is for any benefit
then I am ok with that also. At least you
be happy and do what you want to do.
Why is the tradition in India
that woman has to go to
stranger’s house and take care
of his parents and not hers.
This keeps bothering me.
Sri Sri: Well you should have been born
in Kerala or Tripura where there is a
patriarchal society. But if the same

why should I leave my house and go and
stay in my wife’s house and take care of

care of your people, you can take care of
others also. Perhaps it is easier to take
care of stranger than your own people.

Sri Sri: Look! Do not blame marriage for
this. There are people who are married
and happy and there are people who
are single and unhappy. Yes! There are
responsibilities, challenges. In spite of
all these responsibilities, you should
take some time. And a baby is not active
all the time. In fact, small babies sleep
most of the time. When they sleep, you
meditate. Who can stop?
Life is wonderful and this world
is amazing but sometimes I feel
all this is pointless. This feeling
keeps coming back. What
should I do?
Sri Sri: Very Good! You are getting
matured. You are getting dispassionate
about everything. And when you see
everything is pointless, this should give
you more joy, not depression. If you see

A beacon of hope
Founder and chief executive of Women
Entrpreneurship Centre, Dr. Sangeeta
Karmokar, a recipient of the Office of
Ethnic Comunities, Ethnic Development
Funding scheme, believes there is a
huge untapped potential among refugee
and migrant women who can develop
as successful business leaders. She
believes in the principle of empowering,
developing and connecting aspiring
women entrepreneurs.
Dr. Sangeeta has been an integral part
of education, research and community
engagement. Her practice-based
research interest lies at the intersection
of the entrepreneurship and design
discipline with a special interest in
women entrepreneurship and working

with community. She is passionate about
key issues that women entrepreneurs are
facing in a highly challenging globalised
economy like ethnic diversity, equal pay,
gender equality.
Dr. Sangeeta Karmokar, also a lecturer
at Auckland University of Technology
believes that while various business
accelerator programmes are available
from the government and the private
sector, women at the grassroots level
need proper coaching, mentoring and
opportunities for growth in business.
She is aware that despite capabilities
and great ideas, many women are
generally restricted in their progress
due to lack of confidence, inadequate
information and support.

Women Entrepreneurship Centre is that helps women entrepreneurs to

a not-for-profit organization based
in Auckland, New Zealand working
towards empowerment of women
through inspiring, educating and
entrepreneurial leadership. WEC’s
process in entrepreneurship and
leadership involves awareness
programs, trainings, skills development,
mentoring, business incubation,
information sharing and networking
and marketing assistance.
The Women Entrepreneurship
Centre (WEC), provides a platform
reach their full potential to develop
as business leaders. The Centre has
innovative education programmes,
events, and workshops to support
women entrepreneurs. It also provides
mentoring, practical learning,
consultancy and opportunities for
active research in relevant areas to
develop their businesses.
The Centre recently held a series of
workshops that inspired 70 women
entrepreneurs from various ethnic
backgrounds to identify opportunities

and develop creative thinking in their business
ventures. The workshop participants learnt
how to write business proposals; apply digital
innovation; develop entrepreneurial strategy
as well as exploring ways to prototyping and
testing using different tools and techniques. We
will be running five more workshops by the end
of the year.
The projects: They started their first project
named “Live your dream” in 2017. Live your
dream is a program for potential women
entrepreneurs aspiring to start their own
business enterprise. It helps the prospective
entrepreneurs to introspect their strengths
and weaknesses, encourages them to develop
specific skills and knowledge that will
maximize their community organization’s
potential, develop their skills, and improve
their performance. Dr Sangeeta added saying,
“We had participants for our workshops from
diverse ethnicity. Each had their own unique
talent and passion”. Since all the workshops
were very successful with positive feedback and
anticipating for more workshops, they decided
to start the 2nd batch (Live your dream 2018-For
mumpreneurs).
Community Connect: They have two categories
under community connect: Youth and kids.
The main objective of Community Connect
youth is helping them to discover, express and
develop their unique creativity. It includes goal
setting, action plans and reflection statements.
It creates space for youth to engage in own
career development process, awareness of
future employment, careers and entrepreneur
options. The program is a mix of three meetups
with the main aim of discover, express and
develop. The first set of workshop was done in
collaboration with Lynnfield YMCA on June
2017 and the second set of workshop was done
in collaboration with Kelston Girls College on
August 2017.
Mom Dad and me : Under community connect
kids they are conducting a short creative art
workshop for kids titled “Mom Dad and me” on
June 16th 2018. The program includes hands-
on-activities on how to use art materials in a
creative and fun way while having a special time
with mum or dad.
This year she is planning to launch Co-Inspire
which is a unique platform that allows women to
network, share ideas, learn something new, and
market/sell their products and many more things.
“It’s difficult for women to start and run a
business while juggling with family, kids,
limited time, limited resources and limited
funding. That is why we created this platform
to help women learn, share, grow and inspire
others to succeed. Our main activities under
this brand would be to have networking events
and marketing/selling”, says Dr Sangeeta.
Under networking events they are also planning
to organise one event every 2 months to help
women come together, meet like-minded
women, learn something new through their
informative sessions and share ideas.
Under marketing and selling they give women
in small business, an opportunity to market/sell
their products to the members of We-Inspire.
We can proudly say that Dr Sangeeta and
her women entrepreneur centre dedicated
to developing ethnic women as successful
business leaders is becoming a beacon of
hope for many, in Auckland. The world needs
more such global leaders who can work for the
collective good of humanity.
As of May 2018, there are 24
female CEOs on the List of
leading Fortune 500 companies
- or just under 5% of the total
list. At the moment, just two
names on the list are women
of color: Geisha Williams of
PG&E Corp and Indra Nooyi of
PepsiCo.

rethink…

improve our fitness and evaluate the

Games in the Asian Games. It is not
possible to win without the support and
prayers of the entire country. I want to
stay fit and do well,” Kumar told ANI.

added that with the support of the

players are able to prepare well for
international tours and that the
young Indian contingent is capable of
performing well overseas.
“Every country prepares for different
games in a different manner. And
I believe that we will do well as a
unit in the Asian Games. The aim of
the younger generation - be it the
Asian Games, the Olympics, or the
Commonwealth Games is to win a
medal for the country and that in itself
is commendable,” Kumar added.
He, however, maintained that at the
end of the day, both winning and losing
is part and parcel of the game.
“Everybody gives a close fight and gives
their best. Ultimately it is a sport and
anything can happen in sports,” he said.
The 2018 Asian Games is scheduled to
be held from 18 August to 2 September
and will see a participation from all 45
members of the Olympic Council of Asia.
